Favourite Hong Kong movie or favourite Hong Kong martial arts movie? Better keep my bases covered so favourite HK film of all time is the Killer. From Beijing with Love comes in second and I think Storm Riders and Police Story are in my top five. Favourite HK martial arts movie would be Once Upon a Time in China 2 but Fist of Legend deserves an honourable mention.

Anything by Tsui Hark (that is, not starring Van Damm) is good, especially the Chinese Ghost Story series, but i love Naked Killer. It's got it all (well, it could've had a bit more of Chingmy Yau, but) it's very cool. The problem is getting people to watch it. The name alone sends most people running away and the perverts flocking towards it and the description doesn't help. But in terms of violence and sex, it's (mainly) pretty tame. Everyone should watch it. That scene with the sausages was so funny.

Yes Jackie was in Drunken Master 2 and yes I enjoyed that as well. I don't know about the original but there's a Drunken Master 3 starring Andy Lau.

Ok, im just gonna say the martial arts movies and the others together

From beijing with love - XD it was soooooooo funny. (i think i got the right movie) where there's some secret agent guy thats a butcher with some special butchering knife. And theres a scene where some chick is looking through his stuff and takes out a hairdryer (or a fan- i can't remember) and is like 'why does he have this?' and he says that its not really a hairdryer but really a shaver and starts to shave with it. Then she pulls out his shaver and asks what his shaver actually is since the hairdryer is the shaver, and he says its his hairdryer. He then proceeds to fan/hairdry. Then he says that his shoe is also a shaver thats there for emergencies - then he starts to shave again. ROTFLMFAO
That may not be very accurate description- but i haven't seen that movie in over a year.

Any Hong Kong Jackie Chan movie + rush hour 1 & 2 and RitB (rumble in the bronx - cept the dubbing {i think it was dubbing or just really bad talking})
Ones i like to mention from jackie chan are the police story movies - especially police story 3 with Michelle Yeoh - they were just the best in that movie. armour of god - cept for that crappy, crappy singing - the really shameful one of his group singing some song about love <shudders>.
Also like to mention The young master - i think that's what its called.

Ummm i can't remember the name properly - i think its Forbidden City Cop- this is another funny movie about some guy that's one of the four bodyguards of the emperor. its sooooooo funny.

Any Bruce Lee Movie - he was a genuis (no need to say more)

Shaolin temple - i think that's what its called, the one with the young jet lee? i really, really didn't like the sequel (i think it was a sequel, but it didn't really add on to the 1st story) shaolin kids <shudders> the one with lots of singing and the young boys and girls that live across the river from each other and learn different styles of fighting -wudan sword and shaolin kung fu......
there was way too much singing and not enough fighting for me...

Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon - the best (or one of the best) movies ever, i loooooovvvveeeeedddddd it.

Chapter films - the chinese movies that occur in episodes cause they're so long - they're really more like a series but i thought id mention them.

If i think of anymore ill post more up

i thought of some more
Storm Riders - Wasn't as good as some of the other movies ive seen like that (the whole flying through the air and special techniques and swords)

Also like to mention another Jackie Chan movie - ummmm i forgot what it was called...

I would just like to add to my list (which is very good ) the ummmm i can't exactly remember what's the title, don't think im s sicko or anything but i think its called 'Erotic ghost story'. I can't remember what number i like, i think it was 2 but the movie's really good. Its about this monk meeting this ghost and ummm i think they fall in love or summin, but she belongs with these evil ghosts who all have cool powers. The ghost that the monk falls in love with uses her hair as a weapon while all the other ghosts use their nails. I won't say they rest but the movies really good!

Anyway, if youre wondering why im posting this now, its because this forum needs more people talking because its dying. plus im bored.

I have heard of Erotic Ghost Story, but I have not seen it.... seriously. I know a lot of people around here have though.

Yeah, this forum is dying slowly, because Yellow Monkey & Zedster have gone - they were the HK Cinema gurus.

ooooh.. I got called a guru.. *purr*

Personally- my 'alltimefavouritehongkongmovieever' would probably be The Black Rose- absolute hilarity. I had to stuff my doona in my mouth just to avoid waking my dad.. *blush*

The Hitman- just for incredible perve value. Jet was so buff in this one.

Shoalin Temple- Jet getting his gear off.. just wonderful.

OUATIC, 1, 2 - 3 to a lesser extent. 2 had the best fights, but 3 had lion dancing, which I adore.

Fong Sai Yuk 1 and 2- crowd surfing fighting and Jet dressed up as a girl.

Police Story 1, 2, and 3- I saw 1 at the movies so it has a special place in my heart, 2 was still good and 3 had Michelle Yeoh.

Armour of God- the first Jackie Movie I ever saw- I was 10 and in Thailand- still in Cantonese with Thai subtitles- it rocked.

Wing Chun- More Michelle Yeoh. and how could I forget Miss Tofu?

Umm- there are a bunch more, but I can't think of them at the moment.

It was one I haven't seen before too! Baby Godzilla was soooo cute... ^_^ This is one thing MM should change the name of this to the HK/Japanese Cinema page- then I could talk about it more!!! (and not feel guilty- ^_^")

Was that Son of Godzilla? That's one of my favourites [I'm a pretty big G fan]

Favourite martial arts film? Bloodsport II - no doubts. HK film? A Man called Hero or Tokyo Raiders.

Oh, and you feel guilty about talkin bout Japanese stuff here?!? I'm sure there are worse things you could do.

Well with threads about Ring, Lone Wolf and Cub and the Professional why don't the admins just bite the bullet and call this forum Foreign and Arthouse Cinema?

mangadude, i agree with you - this forum should be renamed foreign and arthouse cinema (or something to that effect). bardock - i have no friggen idea wtf you are going on about so.... here you go!!! <slaps bardock in the face> Now go back to your tree!! Yes, anyway, back on topic of this...ahh... post. It should be renamed so that we don't get flamed at for talking about japanese and other foreign films (even though that doesn't really happen anymore since the mods have disowned this forum). Yes..... I think ive spoke my mind now....Now its time to go....
\Edit: Just wanted to add that i borrowed Project A, Project 2, lady rose, the protector and the young master from my uncle. So... guess what im going to do tonight???

I just thought of another that I'm mighty fond of- Hero Beyond The Boundary Of Time- ahh.. the golden teapot. ^_^

There are so many tho.. Just too many for me to have stored in my memory..

It's a bit of a worry that I know so many, none of my RL friends are into HK or arthouse at all really- goes to show that I never used to do anything on Sat SBS cult night..

But- I don't really think this should be an 'arthouse' forum, more like just an asian cinema forum. I watch and have watched waaaaaaaaay too much arthouse for it to really be a good idea to let me loose. BTW- anyone who knows of Hal Hartley- You RULE!! Definitely in my top 3 of directors, along with Jeunet and Tsui Hark- I can't really think of any other directors that I will see- just because of them. So- no. I do need some constraints, it's just not a good idea to let me loose on such a large topic.

I grew up on those shockingly dubbed Jackie Chan films from the local video store... but my personal favourite from that era is Fearless Hyena 1.
I also enjoyed the Fong Sai Yuk series and although High Risk was such a rip-off of Speed, my favourite scene is seeing Jet Trash a City Turbo... lol
Crouching Tiger is on my list as well as Donnie Yen's Legend of the Wolf (bloodfest)

Anyone know any decent places in Sydney for decent quality HK DVDs?

Yes, i know those shockingly dubbed jackie chan films, i also grew up (and am still growing - i think i might be one of the youngest ppl to talk about Hong Konganese films in here..) on them. I know they were really badly dubbed, but you gotta love them anyway. If you really hate the dubbing, do like i do when it gets too much - mute!! You can have fun making plotlines to fit in with what they are doing!!
Anyway, i just watched the young master (not dubbed thank god), project A, and half of police story 1..... ~sigh~ I still can't believe the fight scenes in these movies!! Especially the young master. Anyways... Ill go now...

And just to let you guys i know, i have seen all these movies before, bout 10 times each....
