hey everyone i'm new. i am wondering why some complete collections of the 3 arcs of kenshin are like $100 each with 4 dvds, and dvds with exactly the same titles (eg the madman one) are like $30 each with 1 dvd. What are the cheaper ones missing from the more expensive ones? :S

thx for help in advance

They would be illegal bootlegs. Avoid them at all cost. They are badly produced shocking in quality and don't have proper translations. They're also just outright illegal.

Yes, do not buy those. They are illegal versions, I have seen them around myself. They are poor quality, have no extras and not to mention illegal and immoral. Don't buy or support the bootleg market (though I gotta admit ADV isn't helping with there 7 DVD titles atm...) its not right, plus your getting a shoddy quality release.

Don't take drugs either. I hear they're pretty bad.

no, madman's are legit.
the ones you saw are ripoffs. how do we know? apart from the low price and low disc count, the fact is that nowhere in the world has released kenshin boxsets, and so there'd be none available apart from shoddy bootleg versions.

Also, just because a place sells dvd's doesn't make it a legit dvd shop.. i'd like to know the name of the place, it definitely wouldn't be a large chain-outlet.

actually it is a large chain outlet...Blockbuster! I saw on the back of the dvd it had what i am quite sure was the "madman tv" logo. if anyone lives in sydney it's at:

Chatswood
Shop 1, 303 Penhurst Road
Willoughby, NSW, 2068

Could you be absoutely certain about what you're saying?

A chain like Blockbuster would not dare stock illegal bootlegs, however if they are and substantial evidence can be brought up it's most definately something worth looking into.

Can you and anyone else here please verfiy 100% of this info?

You'll need more than $400 for the whole kenshin series

26 (22 for tv series, 2 for first ova, 1 for the movie and 1 for the second ova) x $30 (RRP) = $780 i am just starting to realise how much kenshin series is costing me

Next time you go, take a note of what the disc title is, what the episode count is and whether the Madman logo is on the cover or not.

prices will vary from store to store, averaging between $28.95-$34.95 pending on the you go into..

Rurouni Kenshin RRP: $29.95 though i've purchased it for $28.95, to be honest i think it should be around $24.95 due to the length of the tv series.

anime in general will anywhere from $24.95 - $40.00 per disc pending on the title and if the title is a movie or not, it will even cost more if you decide import the R1 dvd's...

the same can be said about VHS tapes aswell...

go here for cheap dvd's www.ezydvd.com.au

for RRP goto www.madman.com.au or www.avchannel.com.au

there also alot on online retailers also in australia aswell as overseas for r1 imports...
some stores also deal in the legit R1,R2&R3 anime also, though with the R2 & R3 version will only have english subs on them, as they are mainly catonese and japanese audio tracks only....

Well if you pre-order them Black_ops you can get them for about $24 a disc from Devoted or FBO.

also i am fairly certain that the earlier volumes of kenshin were in JB Hifi last week for $17.99 each i think it was. along with quite alot of other anime.

JB HiFi... is the place i got to most often for cheap DVDs... their anime collection is good and they often ahve them at below RRP...
Mesh... if thats true... ($17.99) i may perhaps buy now... i was planning on waiting around for the box set(s) to be released... Very Happy

Not on prices, but still Kenshin:

The first season arc (Tokyo) boxset is coming out in November and will contain extras not present with the original release. Fans will be able to get the boxes empty for those who already bought the series.

Thats referring to the US R1 DVDs, but no. Media Blasters hasn't given any more information about them other than that at this stage.
