Recently discovering that I will be unemployed in the new year has got me to thinking "what would be the _ultimate_ job that I would like to do?".

So far it is a toss up between CEO-ship of GE (for the challenge & status) and being an anime-test-dummy (for apparent reasons).

Please don't say "I would like to do job n because it pays well" - this thread is about what you would most _like_ to do.

The jobs should also exist - no EVA pilots please.

With that, I open the floor.

I'd like to be a hugely famous author of fantasy/sci-fi. Razz Because I've always wanted to be, and it's pretty much my ultimate goal in life. Until then, I wanna get a job as an editor.

My ideal job in Australia is to have my own morning or drive time radio program at one of the big radio stations.

My perfect job would to be a radio announcer in America (possibly California) while also doing Voice-overs for Video Games/Cartoons/Anime.

*sigh*

I really want to be a teacher. That's why I'm applying to do a bachelor of teaching at uni. To be perfectly honest I think I'd rather be a high school teacher than get paid by the hour to sit around watching Anime DVDs.

I don't want to really have a job.

I'm workng ta the moment of generating enough passive income to sopport myself and my wife.

Just travel with my video camera and shotgun mike and not have to worry about making a buck.

Maybe buy another boat and sail away on it this time.
Just not worry about money.

Thats my dream lack of job.

You've got the right idea. I work so I can enjoy the things I do while I'm not working.

You may have the right idea. After four years of hard slog at Uni, I've just found out from my mum that primary school teacher grads get as much income as what I'll be getting and I'll be getting more the what alot of grad's will be getting in my area. Not to mention the fact that teachers get lots of holidays and good hours, despite their complaints.

Getting paid to watch anime also wouldn't be good as it would ruin it. You would see so much of it and would also have to concentrate when watchin it, that it would stop being fun.

Except there aren't any jobs available to primary school teachers in Queensland atm.

By the way, the hours aren't as good as you think. Teachers get paid for 6 hours a day. Once lesson preparation and marking are taken into account, they can actually be working anywhere between 12 and 18 hours a day. Admittedly, it isn't like this all year 'round, but it does occur often enough that teachers actually have a fairly pathetic pay rate.

While the holidays are good, the fact that teachers are powerless to control students because of the laws and court rulings introduced over the last 30 years means that teachers work poor hours in a poor environment.

They deserve far more money than they are paid.

Rolling Eyes You know, just when I think you're growing up and maturing, you say something like THAT. idiot.

MY ideal job: being paid "an awful lot of money" (someone get that quote PLEASE! XD) to sit on my arse all day breathing through a large metal tube. Failing that, head of a secret, yet powerful, organistion that is above any human law, with unlimited funding, and general cool things like that.

Yay chocobo breeder if only they were real. Sad

Just remember that do whatever your interested in. Dont do it for the pay because then you will just become bitter after a while for wasting your life in a job that you didnt want to be in the first place. If you do what you want you wont really care what the pay is because your having fun with the job of your dreams.

So in other words Kermi dont worry about the bad points of teaching because im sure youll find 100 more reasons that makes teaching the best job for you.

I hope that made sense? Confused Cool

See you later space cowboy.

I can't really say for high school and I'm sure it would have more work, but my mum does primary school, and she works 8:00 to 5:00 with maybe 1 or 2 hours a week on top of that. Shes also very inefficient in what she does and I could do her work in a lot less time. I'm not disagreeing with the pathetic pay rate though, but they're are jobs out they're with even more pathetic pay rates. Such as the one I'm about to begin.

*Slaps Lionheart* Where were you 4 years ago. did my course for the pay and the pay sucks anyway. I'm such a fool.

Too many people say my job (working at a video store) is their dream job to me. I suppose it's not too bad, but dealing with the general public constantly, and the ever present work politics makes my position fairly crap atm.

I'm also looking at becoming a high school teacher, once ive finished my B Comp Sci I hope to do a Dip Ed, and yeah from there.

Only reason I'm doing computers at uni is cause I think it's interesting, buggered if I want to program for a living :\

Hmmmm a job away from people would be good ^^

I wanted to work for the OFLC and read through magazines and watch movies\television deciding who out of all of Australia should watch programs. I think that'd be pretty cool.

At this point in time I'm working in a Toy store ( Toys R Us) and it's not too bad.

but however, my ultimate goal in life would be to work in Japan, doing anything I spose. I love Japan so much, I spose the novelty would wear off sooner or later, but I doubt it Very Happy.
Also my other ultimate goal would be doing Character Designs for Squaresoft......wait..Square-Enix now (hates the new name), why you ask?? Because I love Square to Death and all that they produce (except The Bouncer, the only thing good from that is the Characters mwahahahaha).

It's funny how many people want to be a games developer, but they fail to realise the difficulty in getting into such profession, and the technical skills & challenges involved game development. Making a game is hardly about "fun & games"!

Having seen the source code for Doom (v2.0), and remembering how dated Doom is, I agree with Tachicoma that it might be irritating to program games.

I don't think that CEO of GE would be a walk in the park either (GE is the biggest entity in the world. Forget about Microsoft), though I honestly believe that resolving difficult problems is one of the most satisfying things that one can do.

Hmmm, cultural anthropologist perhaps. I don't really know what I'd like to do. I used to think sitting around doing not a whole lot for long periods would be best.... but I was wrong. However, having never done any other jobs, I have no idea whether other things would be better or worse.

It's funny how many people want to be a games developer, but they fail to realise the difficulty in getting into such profession, and the technical skills & challenges involved game development. Making a game is hardly about "fun & games"!

That's very true, that's why I'd rather be a character designer, I love designing new characters, and I want my style of clothing to lean more towards Square style. They r so cool Very Happy. But , as you put, it's a very difficult industry to get involved in.
