Great Tin box, very nice retro touch to a great retro show. Can hardly wait (although my funds and other Anime Very Happy obsessions will probably make me!)

Very nice box. Will Madman be switching to thinpacks more often? I sure hope not.

Thin paks only for special circumstances like this.
Thin Paks don't sit well on retail shelves, and are too easily stolen. since the contents of this box is sealed we could use thin paks to save space (rather than creating an extremely thick tin box).

I'm glad you're using thin packs for in the tin. I was afraid at how large it was going to be if it was using regular cases. Shocked

Nice looking tin too.

Any idea from where Madman are sourcing the thinpaks?

I have two box sets from R1 that use thinpaks (Firefly and Mork & Mindy) and between the two sets I have three types of clear thinpaks. Firefly has a clean circular hub, while one disc from Mork & Mindy has the four inwardly pointing arrows (like a lot of R1 Disney cases) and the other three cases are scanavos Confused (not too good).

Of the three types, the one with the "four arrows" is definitely the best, the disc is held firmly but releases easily and the case snaps together very well. I hope you get this type.

I also hope you use thinpaks for more "box set" releases - I think Captain Tylor would have benefitted from this type of packaging, there's no chance of sliders with these - but the digipak ("madpack" or whatever you want to call it) used for Tylor left me with three sliders Sad

If Madman are yet to finalize their supply of slimline cases for this set, might I suggest a manufacturer called Market Makers. They produce black slimline DVD cases with M-Lock hubs and their head office is located in St. Kilda.

I've purchased a few packs of these cases and they are excellent quality - they even have clips for inserts. The only thing lacking is they don't seem to make clear slimline cases, but they probably would if Madman were to order the hundreds I assume they'd need.

But why? Do you have shelf space to burn?

Sets that are released as Volume 1 + Box, and then monthly releases would have to be regular sized cases (for the reasons Sly described). But for complete series that are getting their first release - thinpaks would be great - much better than digi-paks and they take less shelf space than regular cases.

I agree with Adrianw. Complete collection releases are usually packaged to save space, so slimline keepcases are perfect for that. Madpacks look quite nice, but I dislike the difficulty required to dislodge a disc. If Madman don't want to use slimline keepcases, then they should do more sets like Macross or Blue Gender - double-disc standard keepcases.

Personally I really dislike slimline cases. They are horrible really. I would prefer that Madman saved space by releasing whole series like they did with Crest of the Stars or the Slayers series, they are better than thinpacks.

Ten volumes...so the episode count is likely to be 5-5-5-5-5-5-5-5-5-6, for a total of 51 episode [9 x 5 = 45 + 6 = 51]. Is that accurate?

Well, after scrimping and saving I've preordered!!! Huzzah for me Very Happy

But, and I say this very tenuously, weren't there more than 50ish episodes in the series? I read somewhere there were 130

I'm about to pre-order the Astroboy Deluxe Release.
I'm so excited Embarassed !

I hope Madman Ent. got themselves prepared for that great big demand for this release Cool .
I read somewhere that the deluxe edition will be limited to 10'000 items.
Can confirm this anyone?

The 80's series contains 52 episodes (including the eps with boy Atlas'creation and the initial fight between Astro and him).

I think the entire 60's version contains about to 192 episodes, but I'm not quite sure about that.
Certain 60's eps are missing anyway.

Don't forget that the English release was only 51 episodes, with the first two episodes of the original Japanese series edited down into one episode, hence the count of one episode less.

Still wondering if Madman will be subbing the original Japanese episodes 1 & 2 that they plan to include...
