The box on the site - is the lid connected via a hinge, or is the lid separate and comes away from the box? Got any other pics of it? _________________ MORE DERP? |

Oh Dear. A new forum had to be created to stop the oh so frequent Astroboy discussions from spilling into General Anime.....
I hope it sees more use than the Initial D forum. _________________ Now with +/- 15% more uncertainty... perhaps. |

Yeah the old series, should be interesting to see again after all these long long years *wipes tear from eye* I remember watching when i was really young (And my parents used to watch the even older series, can we get our hands on that series too? the old old one the one from the 50s?) and i used to love it, just as much as voltron its good to see that we can actually watch these old series again. After watching the second season of the new astro boy i'm hungering for some of the older stuff _________________ Namco's anime video game "Tales of Symphonia" out 18th of November. I think Madman should number their releases. It'd be cool. ^_^
Also, maybe Sly should change this forum from Astroboy to Retro or something like that. |

I have a couple of questions about the Astroboy DVD collection (other than the one in the other thread).
First, are these episodes the same ones that aired in Australia on the ABC all those years ago or is it the US version which I've heard had more cut than the Aussie one?
And finally, are the next episode previews at the end of each ep included in the MM release? They were sadly cut from the Siren release back in 1997 (due to the way the rearranged the eps).
Also, it's too bad you couldn't get episode 2 of the Japanese version as an extra. Having episode 1 on there is great, but that only tells half the story of what was cut from the first dub episode. We won't get to see the big fight with young Atlas that was in the second Japanese episode.
Oh, and one more thing, where did you get the info on the catalog entry for the collection? Astroboy was born in 2003, not 2030. Or is that a typo? |

Catalog entry was based off info from the Siren release. We will amend and correct all mistakes. thanks. |
I must say I'm quite impressed with what MM are doing with this release.
As a further question/suggestion - I wonder if it would be possible to have some sort of flipbook of the animation stills showing Astro 'running' (like in the end credits). Perhaps even a small version of each still could be placed on the corners of the pages of the booklet included?? |

I'm STILL waiting for an answer to the question about the next ep previews.
Are MM going to be including these or will they be cut like they were from the Siren release? |

So the original/uncut Japanese versions of the first two episodes will be included as extras? Will they be subbed? _________________ MORE DERP? |

Next ep previews (which were actually episode previews tagged on at the start of the ep) will not be on our release. Reason being it was too hard to work with our new masters. Long super secret process.
None the less the release so far is looking fantastic.

Hmmm...I'm not fussed about the previews, but I do hope the Japanese episodes will be subbed.
Since you mentioned masters, I urge Madman to take extra care to ensure there isn't a repeat of the Voltron glitch, since Astroboy is about the same age. _________________ MORE DERP? |

LOL How about a flipbook of the whole series?
Some tons of paper to flip through.
I can barely wait to have this awesome series in DVD quality. On the siren tapes the video quality was rather reasonable than good, especially in the fast moving scenes there was some sort of 'aftershining' (sorry, I don't know the correct word for it) behind the respective moving characters. I wonder whether the reason for that was the way the VHS tapes got recorded.

Indeed, their inclusion is already a bonus, let alone having them subtitled.
May I ask though, how the subtitles were acquired? I mean, were there existing sub scripts out there, or did MM do the sub job themselves? _________________ MORE DERP? |

We were supplied the translation script files for each episode from Tezuka Productions, and had to manually time them ourselves, and add a few tweaks here and there...
Thanks to the talented bunch we have working in our DVD production studio...!

I am really impressed with this set. As a contributor of several soundtracks, I know they wre still short a couple of episodes as of September, and they still managed to find them in time.
As far as the programs themselves, I am most impressed by how strongly the sophistication of the storylines comes across. This in spite of the fact that these were clearly being dubbed and packaged for a juvenile audience (certain lines of dialog come to mind, such as in SEA SERPENT ISLE where one of the prisoners tells Astro "You're inside the sea serpent's tummy") BRAVO Madman for pulling off the seemingly impossible (and I'm happy to have been a part of such a handsome collection) _________________ "Mr. Nobody, you're really somebody." - Astro Boy in episode #43 "DITTO" |
