Read Volume 3 of Negima.

I like Evangelline's back story and how it ties to Negi's father.

The little stuff up Del Rey made certainly stands out.

Is there anywhere to get the Chuang Yi versions in Australia? I managed to get vols 1 & 2 from Yorokonde, but haven't been able to find 3 or 4 (when it comes) anywhere... any suggestions? Smile

They also change the name Ermine into squirrel.

In vol 2, where Negi and Baka rangers fell in the Library Island In the part where that if his magic is reveled and he will turn into a squirrel,
you could almost see the word Ermine in the background where the picture of the squirrel.
Thats is one of the most stupid mistakes they made in the book.

The comics i downloaded off the net makes more sence and they translated all the japanese right ( except the signs)

Guess you guys haven't heard. But...

Feb. 2005:

NEGIMA 4: UPDATE

A few questions have been raised lately about NEGIMA Volumes 3 and 4 mostly relating to consistency in the editing. In our quest to obtain the best translations possible for our beloved Ken Akamatsu, we made a change of translator early in the series, resulting in an error regarding Negi's father's name (which should be Thousand Master, not Southern Master). It turns out that the Japanese words for "southern" and "thousand" are very similar. Future printings of volumes 3 and 4 will be changed to the correct name, and we are checking volume 5 very carefully.

The good news is that we have a new translation team on NEGIMA as of Volume 6. If you've been a member of anime fandom for a while you might recognize the names Trish Ledoux and Toshi Yoshida. I finished reviewing their work on Volume 6 recently, and it looks great. They've signed on for the foreseeable future, so Negi will be in good hands.

This = Good

"sauzando masuta" is the kanakana used in Mahou Sensei Negima (romaji 'cause Im too lazy to start my kana program)

"sazan kurosu" is the katakana version of Southern Cross (according to my electronic dictionary (Its a Canon Wordank if someone wants to verify authenticity or something like that...)

Maybe if there was no "do" added to the then it is almost a justifiable mistake. but uugh;

Methinks that thier little "very similar" is only for people that dont know jack; I can certaintly tell the difference between
a 5 character sa-u-za-n-do and
a 3 character sa-za-n

----------

Also; seeing as how Im relpying anyway;

Basilbrush mentioned that there were no colour pages in V1 thru 3 but they would start in V4...

I dont know why you think this; I have the first 8 Japanese volumes and only the first volume has any colour pages...

I have 4+ in Japanese and 1-3 in Chinese. And yeah, no color pages as well. What are they going to do? Color the stuff in themselves? >.>

I don't mind Del Ray handlering of the manga tranlation (compare to some of the others its heaps better, damn you Viz/action for covering up the Japanese sound effects).

They always have really in-depth explanation on what the spells means and its references at the end, they also tell you what part of jokes or stuff they had to change for the english translation.

Only thing I hate is the price ( $16-$18 ).

Well finally read Vol.07 (came out this week Very Happy ), was quite boring compare to Vol.06, nothing much really happened...

For me the high light of reading Ken Akamatsu works are for his incriedible amount of details that he packs into each panel (just look at those landscape views) and yes he also draws some of best figures in any manga I have ever seen!! Wink
The manga version is the way to go (no way the anime budget would alow that much work into each scene).

GO Evangeline san!!!

Final thing Mahou Sensei Negima does sound alot better then Magister Negi Magi Negima Very Happy .

I think my favourite is Evangelline. Because she can kick some serious arse. Volume 6 was already an action packed showing, but when Evangelline popped up from the shadows(literally), I was cheering. Very Happy

I just bought vols 1 and 2 after Tallis's recomendation on irc and have enjoyed them a good bit. It also helps that I loved Ken Akamatsu's Love Hina manga.

Now to spend money on this series....

It's payback eh Tallis for me getting you into Psychic Academy. Wink

Yes, I've seen that thread and copied the pic to my screensaver file. Very Happy

I'm interested in seeing who pics up the Negima anime license since it has been airing on japanese tv. Or is it finished showing in Japan already?.

It finished awhile ago, it was a bit of a let down. It could've served to be a bit longer, like 52 episodes rather then 26.

Also, there was rumour of Funimation registering Negima.tv (or something along those lines) but nothing has (yet) come of it.

o this anime/manga takes me back -screen shakes and fades into flashback-

It was a balmy wednesday morning at nichidai tsurugaoka highschool and a young western anime fan was hanging out in a class sleeping through a physics class. the next class arrived and he was met with questioning eyes. They asked him about his favourite artist to which he replied "Ken Akamatsu". seemingly out of nowhere they produced a poster with "negima" emblazoned on the front.

This began my love affair with this series. ive only read a little but it seems awesome so far

If you like the detail in Negima, you should check take a look at Ai Yori Aoshi volume 10. Simply staggering.

My main problem with Del Ray Negima is that they didn't just translate it - they "adapted" it. Read: localised it for the American market. Forget the "southern vs thousand" master debate, it is when they start talking like Americans that it bothers me.

Ie: "Are you on Crack" and "Have you ever gotten off?"

Apparently the guy who did the adaption is a well known writer in his own right, so could not help but leave his own footprint on the series.

It was scheduled for 52 episodes, but it was so unpopular that they cut it back to 26. I am a big fan of the manga, but I can say for sure I will not get the anime if Madman get it.

Yes i believe you should. If you liked Ken's past works (A.I Love you, Love Hina come to mind) then you should enjoy Negima. Personally it isone of my favourite manga at the moment.

Damn you Tallis. I've now bought up to vol 7 with the exception of vol 6 which wasn't in the Kinokuniya inside a week.

I hoping Comic Kingdom will have vol 6 when I pop in there tomorrow before work.

There's a lot of fanservice, but I find the story fairly whacked which is why I'm enjoying it. Also the fact that a good few characters look like those from Love Hina and that they throw themselves on Negi for the most part has me wishing I was in his boat.
