BTW: the person commenting on goku midnight eye, in actual fact the only thing sbs has shown on this series is the 2 part ova, which they may have listed as a movie at 1 point...

they showed it over 2 nights...

as for Des Mangan, me think's the idiot should look for another job cause 9 times out of 10 he doesn't even know what he is talking about the same with those armchair critics on the lame movie show, 5 out of 10 for them..

Personally i think glen a. baker has more knowledge of all 3 sbs critics put together, its a pity he's not into anime...

All I know is if I remember correctly (this WAS quite a while ago) it was listed in my TV guide as Movie: Goku Midnight Eye.

It isn't an issue with the box, it's a problem with the reception. See, with analog, you can get a variable reception-anywhere between picture perfect 100% and pure static 0%. The way digital TV works, however, is it's either picture perfect or it's just not there. There's no 'in-between'. So, if you're like me and you can get a barely visible analog signal, you'll get no digital at all. The digital signal has to be roughly 50-60% of full strength to be shown. My set top box shows you the strength of the signal-if I manually select SBS's digital channel, I get SOMETHING at about 30% strength. This clearly isn't enough for a picture, but isn't even enough for the box to consider it a channel and get it's name, TV guide, etc. Though here's a hint for those with STB's: if you've reconfigured your antenna trying to improve reception, force your STB to rescan for channels: it will automatically find and store any channels for which it has adequate reception, but some boxes don't actively scan for extra channels. This also applies to when stations broadcast temporarily on extra digital channels, such as during special events like Olympics or Comm. games.

On the SBS website, they have an SBS-only TV schedule for about month in advance. It currently (11th Aug) goes up to 10th September.

Timesplitter may have seen a dfferent schedule, seeing as he's seen up to the 12th.

Presumably, GitS will begin after the cricket ends, which is the 12th.

EDIT
I watched BGC2040 on SBS when they had it, and I have a question. Did they stop after the second last episode? I remember looking at the guide that week and thinking, hang on, where's BGC?

I didn't see the episode until much later; they rebroadcast the series over three or four nights in the dead of night - every so often they've burned off repeats over a few weeks during their normal "Close" period. I taped the last block of these on VHS LP(!) and forgot about it. I was checking tapes some time later and I came across it, so I watched it - quality was pretty crap, but I'd finally seen it.

They showed the last 2 eps of BGC 2040 back to back on the same night! I nearly got caught as well.

I remember seeing BGC2040 on tv! But I think that I saw one of the last episodes (I don't think it was on the week after), so I had no idea what was going on.

Ahh, SBS...it's thanks to them I have almost every NGE episode on tape (come on, i was a pov VCE student at the time Laughing ) I can remember making the efort to watch it every saturday, no matter where i was.
Then thru sbs i think i saw castle of cagliostro, as well as some other cool anime.

I think I can safley speak for most of us when i say if it wasn't for SBS (and madman, of course) anime wouldn't be as big in australia as it is today.

I think also at the time of NGE, SBS got its highest ratings , too. (I remember reading that in a newspaper years ago, so i could be little off)

Yeah, I agree. There is no way that I would be this addicted to anime today if I hadn't seen Ninja Scroll, Ghost in the Shell and Akira on SBS in the mid-90's. Damn you SBS! *shakes fist at sky*

They do during the cricket,...but that is not the major issue here. I'm yet to see SAC even though I have the first DVD lying around somewhere. Watching it on TV will help me determine whether I buy the rest of the series or not. With Madman releasing so much anime these days one needs to be prudent! Crying or Very sad

Only because it's a contractual obligation and SBS needs the ad revenue to pay for the rights to the test series.

My DVD is already overflowing my room, though not as bad as Yomiko in ROD. But that's because I live in a small house.

I'd like to win a few million bucks in Lotto so I can build a bigger house with a small home theatre, specifically built for watching anime. I'll invite you guys to come along.

Now only if I could pick the right six numbers...

Then we will have to learn Japanese since most don't have English subtitle. But hey, I will do anything for anime, and that includes learning Japanese.

If I win the Lotto a couple more times, I'll licence the anime that I want to watch, directly from Japan. Laughing

Oh well. Madman can license those that I don't want to watch then... LOL.

There can only be so many that I want to watch. Plus I have so many that I still need to watch that are sitting on my shelves right now. I have at least 5 series that require my attention, and 2 more are on their way.

Let's see, *pulls out a calculator*

OMG! 80 episodes x 25 minutes each = 2000 minutes!!!

*sigh* no amount of Lotto money can buy me time.

Effectively the anime market in australia is a Monoploy, which is dominated by madman.

Now if madman had some real competition it would be better for the consumer Very Happy

But until then I am happy to tape initial D off the TV.

No, Madman is just the only one who really invests a lot of their time and money into it, thus they have stronger relations with licensors than other companies. If it were a monopoly, Madman would automatically aqquire all rights to everything that came out of Japan, with no possibilities of sublicensed to anyone elese RRR INTERNET SERIOUS BUSINESS>

I said "EFFECTIVELY" not "IS"

Any it is confirmed. GITS:SAC will start on the 15th Spetember at 10:00pm. Sorta fits in well with Initial D (10:30pm) and Inyasha (11:00) on Cartoon network.

Any way here it is

http://www.sbs.com.au/whatson/index.php3?progdate=15:09:2005

Quote:
CULT ANIMATION SERIES - GHOST IN THE SHELL STAND ALONE COMPLEX - Section 9
In a future when cybernetic enhancements are a way of life, Major Motoko Kusangi and Section 9 take care of the jobs that the police and the army can't handle. Hackers and sharpshooters, detectives and cyborgs, Section 9 is the one thing that stands between cyber-criminals and their prey. Based on the classic Japanese anime movie Ghost in the Shell, this 13-part series is set in the 2030s when, thanks to advances in technology, man and machine can be fully integrated. People can cybernetically augment their bodies and brains, have their brains transplanted to cybernetic bodies, and connect their minds directly to computers and communications networks. Public Security Section 9, headed by Daisuke Aramaki with Major Kusanagi as its tactical commander, is a special task force assembled to deal with cyber criminals and dangerous situations involving robotic citizens and other machines with minds of their own. Tonight Section 9 is summoned to resolve a hostage crisis at an establishment staffed by android geishas. (From Japan, in English) M (V) CC (*NEW SERIES*)

And I though the first season of GITS:SAC was 26 eps ( not 13 as metioned in the quote)

Knowing SBS, they are probabily screening GITS SAC the same way they did Evangelion; in 1 hour blocks of two episodes.

Since this just means you will watch it in the same order as the Japanese DVDs, it would hardly be a problem.

We should be happy that they are showing anime on free-to-air TV at all. It doesn't bother me, if it's good, I'll probably buy it before SBS shows it. Either way, I'm happy.

Including: Trigun (copy on VHS) (complete
Cowboy BeBop (complete)

Then I have movies:
Steamboy
Samurai X (The Motion Picture)

'Tis sad. No manga to speak of either.

Me neither. Found it too hard (and relatively expensive) to collect.

Manga is expensive to some degree.

I walked into borders this afternoon and saw Hellsing Manga's Volume 1-4. And I have been trying to get my hands on a volumes.

So I start filping through them and they look very good even through they are not in plastic.

Then I look at the price on the back and its says $30 Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked

each. Shocked Shocked

I am willing to pay $15 maybe a bit more for manga but $30. I rather get a dvd for that much.

Any it is confirmed. GITS:SAC will start on the 15th Spetember at 10:00pm. Sorta fits in well with Initial D (10:30pm) and Inyasha (11:00) on Cartoon network.

Any way here it is

Awesome! Finally, something to look forward to on TV! It's been a while; must make a mental note not to go out that night. Wink

I saw BeBop manga in borders for $20 once. But that's the brilliant thing about Madman, they're selling for $15! Madman will be finding me buying their manga. Bugger importing, I want to save me five bucks!

So the manga at Borders are imported? I never really paid any notice to them. But yeah, it's an expensive hobby. $20 each, 10 volumes would cost you $200, enough to buy a couple of short series on DVD.

All the ones I looked at where imports, simply because I know Madman haven't got the rights to publish them yet. InuYasha, Trigun, Chrno Crusade etc. (Well they didn't have Chrno Crusade at the time)
