otherwise if it was all me, I'd be paying closer to $3,000
I HATE NRMA...

Are you serious? That's how much it would've been for me to drive a 200SX with my dad as the main driver. Definately check out another insurance company dude... Lancers, VRX or not, are not classed as sports cars, so you shouldn't be paying the price of one. I just did the aami online quote thing for myself (guessed the purchase price at $25k) and it came up with $1800...

uh... I said the $2,500 was for the insurance, greenslip AND rego...
the insurance alone IS $1,800
but otherwise, YES I am serious Sad

Porting = loss of power at low revs, increase at high revs. Boaring maintains power + a little extra throughout the entire rev range. I'd prefer a boared engine over a ported engine any day. My Rx-7 is a nightmare to drive around day-to-day without going over 3500rpm. Put the air conditioner on an forget about going up a hill without revving the car. But boaring is far more expensive. I assure you, boared engines sound just as cool as ported engines.

Insurance costs depend on prior history/age/company etc. That seems a little steep to me. My Rx-7 costs me $900 a year for comprehensive car insurance. Rego would be about the same here in SA for a year. I'm 23, so in reality, the price of insurance is pretty darn good. If I was you I'd ring around and get some new insurance quotes.

I'm not going to listen to advice about cars from someone who thinks cutting springs is a *good* idea, and obviously wears blinkers in the car department (although some of you others are just as biased the other way Razz)

I'm not sure whether this person is a troll, a puppet, both, or none.

No, I'm ragging on your belief that dodgy backyard 'mods' like cut springs are a good idea.

If you actually read some of my posts, I make pretty much exactly the same point - the Trueno was a good car in the 80s, but it definately isn't (IMO) worth the price people ask for it now. Also, I have nothing against commodores. I try to judge the cars I hear about based on merits, and not by some knee-jerk reaction for or against the cars nationality, type (for example 4cy turbos vs. V-8s) or brand.
Oh, and the VL commodore is nearly as old as the trueno your ragging on, so I don't think you can really tell people to get with the times.

I know it's a bit off topic but do you think they'll put through power restrictions to be enforced on L platers and P platers?

I don't know if they'll gothrough with it, but, *places on foot in the grave*, I think it's a good idea.

I mean, lets be honest. Most new drivers are sh*t-scared and really don't have much idea what they're doing (as confident/good as they may like to think they are) and can't even handle an excel or lancer without nearly dying...

What about if my dad only owns a van and a wrx. I can't use the van because he uses it for work and has stuff in it so that only leaves the wrx until i save enough money for my own car.

In NSW I think they already have the restrictions in place... or are about to...
basically if you're on your P's (not sure about L's) you aren't legally allowed to drive a V8, supercharged or turbocharged car unless it is the ONLY car in the family OR if it is required for your employment..
I heard there were a bunch of people rushing out to get turbo's because the law stipulated that if you already had one, because they can't FORCE you to sell it, you can keep it, so everyone was tryin to get in at the last minute or something like that...
not sure how the rest of that eventuated though...

the stupidest thing about the law is that it wont affect people who already have it... i mean they should have a buffer time of 6 months before the implementation. To stop the abusers...aiight.

But i must say i believe that this policy could very help to save lives...though at the same time i was always one to believe in Survival of the Fittest...and obviously stupid people who drive dangerously shouldnt stay alive.

Ah, fair enough...
Thanks for the update Wink

but hey, they still don't attribute the amount of accidents that ocur from less powerful cars
just about anyone can do 150k in just about all cars
in the end, it's the driver, not the car...
but meh, so long as the government and enforcement agencies are getting money out of fines and the like, they arn't gonna spend money on driver education campaigns Razz

That'd requite effort, after all Razz

Preggers, www.trdsales.com is the official TRD rep for our part of the world, so dreams of doing up a leet TRD Altezza aren't so fanciful Razz (though US$1824 for a CF hood is a bit painful XD)

The thing I'm wondering about it is how they'll go about restricting power. Will it be a certain power-to-weight ratio limit, just a power limit(e.g. nothing over 110kw) or no forced induction and no V8's.

If it's just no forced induction and no V8's then Honda here I come! ^_^

Or maybe a 20V 4AGE powered AE86.

If it was those restrictions only... commo here I come... and I'll seeyas in the rear vision mirror Razz

It'd be based on power:weight, definately. That'd get rid of sticky situations like little turbo Japanese cars with 98hp and old V8s with like 150hp... it'd be totally unfair to ban those cars simply based on their engine without judging what the car can actually do.

My guess is that it'd be just high enough to let V6 Commadores and Falcons through, because if you left them out then it'd really hurt the 2nd hand car industry. A few NA version Japanese cars would get through, like NA Silvias, but those aren't worth the metal they're built from. "High Performance" Hondas are a ripoff, $15,000+ for a VTiR that'd lose to a stock commo, yeah great value Razz

Don't be dumb commodores aren't japanese .: crap Razz XD

But seriously, I'd be going for the commo too, not some poxy little nanna's-econo-box. Like Waffle said, for the price of a 'performance' honda you could've bought a car that would actually perform.

funny enough i saw a artical on the idiot box 6-7 month's ago, about HP ratings between a v6 and v8, over in WA the law restriction imposed l & p plates got dropped on the horse power of your car cause it was proved a v6 could have an identical HP rating like a v8....

whether the law has been revised since then i don't know....

i'm not sure on whar the latest specs on turbo'd corolla's in AUS, though the after market parts for them would be well worth a look, in japan you'll probly find a 500-1000 hp trueno as anything is possible...

though you have to remember that the trueno in initial d has been modified so its a real unknown what the final hp rating is on the trueno before the motor dies, now using gt3 as an example its possible to get the carolla up to 240 bhp (na tune) and 362 bhp (stage3 turbo) white car with about 5-10 bhp the difference on the red car, while they both are labeled as ae-86 i think both cars could be different models of the same vehical thus the different bhp rating is applied....
