From what i know madman haven't given a release date yet, the only thing we know is that it'll most likely be released later this year. _________________ You scratch my back and i'll scratch yours....seriously i will.

It should be out before the end of the year. Sly can give a better indication, but he's overseas at the moment. _________________ Motorcycling - You don't need an excuse to ride, but you need an excuse not to ride.

Just go with individual releases sly, maybe monthly instead of bi-monthly so we can catch up to the r1. _________________ You scratch my back and i'll scratch yours....seriously i will.

Out of interest, how would you the fans like to see this released as?
Indiviaul volumes?
2 disc "double barrell" releases?
Season collection? |
I didn't know you guys were allowed to change the packaging style of the DVDs! Unless you mean, when do we want to see the DVDs come out... I think the season collection would be nice, I guess it depends on the price. _________________ I have a blog! (it helps if you imagine it in Martin Luther King's voice) |

As long as you follow the artwork of the dvd's and box that the R1 has, then go with it as either a box or individual release.
If you do it as an individual release, make sure to highlight it uniqueness as being the only acrobatic circus anime around. If you get the younger people thinking of Cirque Du Soleil, you'll grab more people as well.
I think individual releases would work out better esp now the ADV has decided for the 2nd season to go ahead. The cover art is truly beautifull and would be wasted hidden in a box.
Having a cover like this hidden in a boxset release is a travesty.

For one thing, having it hidden in a boxset if it's released that way is one. Selling them individually would allow people to truly see how great this series is. If you look at the R1 box, it's pretty, but people would buy something more if they can read what's on the back and go WOW at the covers. The covers are the selling point and KS has one of the brightest and most attractive set of covers, I've ever seen.
If it is marketed properly unlike ADV who apparently didn't, then MM will have a certain hit. Families would definitely go for this even if they had pre-teen children. _________________ Motorcycling - You don't need an excuse to ride, but you need an excuse not to ride.

but still the box would look nice! so that attracts people...
i think this series should be released as a complete collection for 3 reasons:
1) i like to watch them all in a row and not waiting 2 month per dvd (like many people hate)
2) cheaper for box set!!!!
3) people would wait for the box set anyway so release it now and more people would buy it instead of having people wait for the box set to come out...
i think fans are really looking forward to this so MM should release as a complete box set (Collection) for the fans!!!!! |

The whole series has come out already, so MM can release it monthly and not every 2 months. It will also allow them time to see if it is worth getting season 2 which will also start coming out in the US around Oct/Nov.
I for one am eager for season 2 to finally make its appearance at that time.
For the preview side of things, there are 2 previews that ADV has done. One is to the OP music of the first 15 eps or so of season 1. The 2nd has a combo of season 1 and 2 footage, but it gives a better feel for what Kaleido Star is.
Maybe Madman could do one of there own. I've seen the first preview on the R1 Happy Lesson OVA and the 2nd on Aquarian Age vol 3.
The season 2 preview is on the R1 D.N.Angel vol 4 dvd, I believe. _________________ Motorcycling - You don't need an excuse to ride, but you need an excuse not to ride.

Very true, just because alot of madboards wan't it doesn't mean it will do well, they need to gauge if season 2 is worth getting and monthly releases will do just that. _________________ You scratch my back and i'll scratch yours....seriously i will.

How will monthly releases gauge whether people will go for 2nd season as opposite to actually watching the WHOLE thing and then deciding whether to go for 2nd season...
Individual releases is A WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY...
Just release it fully completed so people can go and watch the whole thing...
It is a series so why buy it INCOMPLETED ????

Umm.. I don't understand why people want individual releases. It costs more money. I thought that was reason enough not to want that.
Considering the US have released quite a bit, I'd love to see it come out immediately as a season collection, instead of having to wait months and months to collect it all. ^^ |

I find myself agreeing with you a lot recently. Probably cause of the avatar. But in this case, I like sets! mmm, sets~ it means not having to pick and choose which dvds you wanna buy that month. My poor collections are so uneven >_<; |

For some people, it's easier to find $25-30 every month or two than it is to find $100-120 all-at-once.

It costs more but that's only due to marketing and delivery, I think. If they do it like Orphen 2, then MM is risking more I believe. ADV has only released season 1 at the moment since they've f*cked everyone around about season 2. Releasing it as a boxset is a 1 shot chance at maybe getting season 2 out here. Releasing it individually gives Kaleido Star season 2 a better chance of coming out since it gives people more time to buy it. _________________ Motorcycling - You don't need an excuse to ride, but you need an excuse not to ride.

I think you are forgetting one thing. Some people actually wait for boxsets to be released before buying a whole series because it's cheaper! The individual releases will only cause those people to sit there, add up the prices, and, see how expensive it really is and then wait for the boxset.
And as well as that, you can surely come to the conclusion that we won't get Kaleido Star series 2 for another 1000000 years with individual releases.
Anyone who wants Kaliedo Star, has been looking forward to its release, will eventually buy the boxset. It's cheaper, and believe me, money is a bigger issue to people than whether we'll get the next season or not.

Remember Tony, you're only talking about those here on the boards. The majority of people who buy anime don't come here and thus not in our position to know. They'll be ones buying the individual titles and releasing it every month as Sly suggested will work fine for them. Not everyone can afford boxsets and they'll be taking a risk on a show that they'll most likely know didly squat about.
One thing is for certain, is that if MM doesn't release season 2, then they have to remove the ep 27 preview from the end of ep 26 of season 1. Otherwise they'll think that MM already has season 2 licensed. _________________ Motorcycling - You don't need an excuse to ride, but you need an excuse not to ride.

The boat i'm in unfortunantly, though i'm not opposed to a perfect collection, monthly releases would be easier on my wallet but for a series i've been waiting a while for i've no doubt i could muster up the $120.00 for it. _________________ You scratch my back and i'll scratch yours....seriously i will.

How about double barrels released monthly, then switched to individual volumes when we catch up to the R1. _________________ I'm 13 and a music fantatic.

Madman only has the license to the 1st season which is already out. The 2nd season release of the R1 will start before years end unless they do a boxset of it.
It is why I've been advocating for individual releases. I want to see the 2nd season come out here and I feel this is the best way to do that. _________________ Motorcycling - You don't need an excuse to ride, but you need an excuse not to ride.

I'd say a season 1 box set to match up with the R1 box set due later this year is the most likely release format.

Just a question Sly on the extras for the series. Are you following the R1 or can you add some extras of your own?.
I would really like to see if you can get either footage or an interview with Cirque du Soliel or The Flying Fruitbat Circus. I think it would be pretty cool to see actual stunt being performed or cast members telling of how hard or fun it is.
Just a suggestion. _________________ Motorcycling - You don't need an excuse to ride, but you need an excuse not to ride.

Nice suggestion, Jester: I would like to see that too! The best part of this series if that they do all these impossible stunts that seem, well, probably JUST possible. A commentry by people who know their stuff would compliment these acts really well! Cirque du Soliel would be perfect, but a little difficult, however, the Flying Fruitbat Circus would be pretty good too _________________ My AniDB Page |

Since I tend to go through a series in a day, and cheaper = good, a complete boxset would be great. Especially if it's a specially designed box, maybe something like a foldout box with the region 1 front covers on one side (because they seem to be popular and look nice) and a panoramic scene on the other side where the dvds go, so the dvd labels fit in and match the picture. All in a large slipcase/outer box for protection and to keep the nasty oflc stuff from marring the pictures. Okay, probably unfeasible, but it would be nice.
That said, I wouldn't mind a double-barrelled release if there was an extra incentive, like something in the box. A plushie would be nice, but you could put in stuff that you might get from a real circus like:
- an attractions pamphlet highlighting the acts and performers, with pictures of course (basically a booklet, so possible);
- photo/postcards(you've done these with other series, so also possible);
- a ticket, maybe with a unique seat number (especially if it's a limited release);
- a foldout flyer to put on the wall;
- a plushie...( I really want a plushie...)
and so on...
Maybe I'm asking for a lot, but I love this show. And I've only seen the first episode off an old Newtype dvd, so it's been gnawing away at my brain for a long time...so very long...time for sleep now... |

January releases!
This will be a limited month because November and December are so huge.
- .hack//Legend of the Twilight collection - because I could answer trivia about this, I won Pom Poko! Rock on, Madman!
- Kaleido Star collection for about $70. Note that this does not include the second series or OVARequiem from the Darkness
- The Place Promised in our Early Days - Good news! Shinkai Makoto hired a character designer for this!

Now that I know that it's coming as a boxset, I have no further interest in it.
It will get some people happy, I guess, but I feel now that there's next to no hope of season 2 ever seeing the light of day here. _________________ Motorcycling - You don't need an excuse to ride, but you need an excuse not to ride.

Well maybe, just maybe, it will sell well enough for Madman to license the second season. I know the price makes it pretty appealing to the normal anime buyer. |

They'll go look at the box which will have no info except for the basics and decide that way. There is a few who may look here, but it'll most likely go the same way as Chance Pop Session and Pretear which hasn't sold that well I think.
But this isn't my worry any more since I'm really getting peeved with ADV's sh*tty treatment of the 2nd season release. I'm really gonna give Matt Greenhill a piece of my mind at Supanova over that. _________________ Motorcycling - You don't need an excuse to ride, but you need an excuse not to ride.

Despite polling rather well in Japan, it is a fact that Kaleido Star ~Aratanaru Tsubasa~ was not as good as the original series. If (note: I have no hard data on this, so it's pure speculation)... if the first season did not sell very well in America, I can definitely see their hessitation in releasing the second season.
If it did sell well, there is another reason to hold it off: if they new about the impending release of the second OVA (and they surely would), then it would make sense to wait for it and release it with the last disc of series two (else it would never be released).
The true explanation may not be so black and white, but it is better than automatically assuming they are doing it to be a bunch of d***s, _________________ My AniDB Page |

Elric of Grans. Below is why I'm mad. Maybe you should look up more on it yourself, but this is my equal No. 1 title so I do know a fair bit about this release.
It's already 6 months overdue from it's original release date. ADV have been constantly asked at every con in the US since then about the status of the 2nd season. They even had started doing the dub for the 2nd season but it then stopped.
ADV blamed sales, but they were marketing to the wrong sector and on the animeondvd forums, they has been at least 40 pages of discussion over this. ADV then announced that the 2nd season would start to be released in October/November, but that hasn't happened and it's not even on Decembers releases.
So of course I and a lot of others are extremely p*ssed off with ADV over this. I'm also mad at another title they've stopped halfway thru before restarting 4 months later.
I'm still buying ADV titles, but won't be buying many of their titles in future due to this. _________________ Motorcycling - You don't need an excuse to ride, but you need an excuse not to ride.
