Heya everyone, I not sure if this goes here...but anyway, I was wondering what everyones favourite anime/manga novel is? Can anyone recommend one for me?

I have not gotten any yet, but they sound interesting.

Does anyone know if Madman have plans to release these anytime soon/ever?

Hmm.. I think there is already a thread about people's fave manga:

http://madboards.madman.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=7958

My favourites are Bleach & Death Note. I highly recommend either of them.

Madman have been releasing a few different series of manga for a while now. You can find the latest ones here:

A 5 bk series called Juvenile Orion is definitely worth looking at. It is one of my favourite manga series based in the Aquarian Age universe.

http://www.rightstuf.com/cgi-bin/catalogmgr/k79BKUUJhTdfKmkLpa/browse/item/62489/4/0/0

If you're lucky, there may still be copies of the ltd ed vol 5 with box. The box is of course for the manga series.

I love the Maria-sama ga Miteru novels. Unfortunately my Japanese isn't anywhere near good enough to read them, so I have to rely on semi-translations to understand what's going on, but its gooood. ^^

Are you talking about the dub or the original? I don't know much about the anime compared to the manga, but I do know the anime was dumbed down a lot in the dub to make it more kiddy-friendly.

Does anyone know where I can buy the FmA novels in Victoria? I've looked at Borders in Knox City but they didn't have any.

I went to Borders Chadstone last saturday and they had 3 or 4 copies of the first novel. Minotaur should have a few copies aswell and i'd suggest going there since their cheaper than borders.

Excellent~~

How much cheaper is Minotaur? Because I'd have to pay more for the train ticket to get there.

Quite abit actually, i remember i got the .Hack// Novel for $15.95 and the FMA one should be of similar price.

Tokyopop - $17.95
ADV - $17.95
Delray - $18.95 (older copies will set you back $20.95 though)

But i'm not 100% sure minotaur have copies in stock so you may have to call them up so you don't waste a trip.

By novels do you mean the manga of the anime? instead of the other way round eg. fruits basket (isnt that a comic or something?)

Well, I did get the FmA novel from Minotaur in the end (for $18), as I happened to be in the city anyway. 'Twas interesting to read, though at a few points there were things that just contradicted details from the anime/manga - though admittedly I think it must have been written before a lot of the manga had been released, judging from the comic on the last page with Arakawa telling people to read chapter 15...

Overall it was an enjoyable read. ^_^ The 13th Warehouse story was awesome - it had me laughing so much! (And it had Havoc in it! Which is cool, because I like Havoc, and he didn't get to be in the anime version of this episode much.)

Went into the city yesterday and bought .Hack// AI Buster 2 from Borders. Im only halfway through it but it is a really great read.

I like the fact that every story has another persons perspective, you get a lot more info about the characters this way
(Not sure if thats a spoiler or not)

By novels, do you mean a graphic nivel with loads of anime chapters e.g. 12 chapters in one volume instead of 6; or do you mean a text-novel?

If its the former, then Trigun! Very Happy

The number of chapters is influenced by the number of pages per chapter, nothing else. Monthlies typically have three to five chapters/book, fortnightlies six to eight, and weeklies have 10-12.

TRIGUN was published in both tankoubon and widebon form: the thicker one is the widebon, which is not used as often. Urusei Yatsura was 34 tankoubon, but 15 widebon, which should give a good indication to the difference between the two types. `Graphic Novel' is just a fancy way the Americans refer to comics aimed at an older age group: it has nothing to do with whether it is a tankoubon or a widebon.

Pretty unlikely, madman seem to be less interested in manga and are focusing more on the anime side of things.

Ditto, but only time will tell if they'll come out. The manga on the other hand is a gem it's great to see Nenene as a kid and so much stuff that isn't fully explained in the anime's comes to light. And i finally understand what the title means lol.

Favourity manga well of course I can name then but by favourite would be hard.

So I'll just list my favourite but not in particular order of favourite.

1. Berserk
2. Dragonball/Z
3. Naruto
4. Bleach
5. Fist of the North Star
6. King of Hell
7. Fist of the Blue Sky
8. One Piece
9. Shaman King
10. Yu Yu Hakusho
11. Akira

But if I where to list by favourite Fist of the North Star get me everytime.
I can't stop reading it but it's the same with the first 6 I listed.

I wish I could get Fist of the North Star entirely in Master editions but Raijin comics stopped so the only resort is manga scans so I only go about 9 volumes Fist of the North Star in Master editions when the entire manga is 27 volumes.

But up to volume 16 is the best which is the end of Season 2 of the TV series which Kenshiro finally defeats Raoh....It's like the BIG End to the series you been waiting for.

The second series is a very sad series but also the best and most popular series and contains more popular characters

This thread is not label too well I might add

anime/manga novels

since there is the the term graphic novels which another term for manga

but anime novels is different

By you mean coloured manga titles that have images taken straight from the anime...well I have seen them but there aren't too many of those titles around.

I have seen an Akira movie anime novel....but I wouldn't CALL IT MANGA since it is confusing is more called ANIME NOVELS.

If this is what your referring to then make it CLEAR.

That is not what the thread is about either. If you had read the thread at all, you would see it is obviously about novels: you know, those books with 800 pages of text and no pictures. The thread is clearly indicating novels with some association with anime/manga (ie there are anime or manga based on those novels). Examples include the Boogipop series, the Seikai series and the Suzumiya Haruhi series. Very few of these titles are available in English, so there is every chance you have never even seen one.

The only anime novel series that I own is the three volumes of RahXephon that have been released in english so far (novel not the Manga, which I have as well.)

It is a little different from the anime as it is written in first person and shows several events from the perspective of several characters.

Elric stop posting after all my posts you stalker

Vampire Hunter D novel by Dark horse is one that I have seen but I haven't read the review of it to see if the story is different or has some similarities to the anime.

Apparently there's a Japanese novel based on the PS2 game ICO. I want it! ICO is so very amazing.

Oh, and there's now an official English release date for the first Kino's Journey novel (and some other novels too): October 2006. See this article.

The Kino release date was good news, but book one of Seikai no Monshou comes out in September, and that title I am more interested in. From recollection, the first Boogiepop novel will be available in Australia from August too, so lots of good things coming out close to each other Very Happy

The Vampire Hunter D movies were based on a couple of the novels. The novels are meant to be good, but I hear the English translations are dreadful; same with the Slayers novels. Shame, as they were both titles I was interested in.

They don't strike me as significantly different in style from the long-gone inverse.org translations, which I have tucked away somewhere.

I haven't read that many Japanese novels, but I'd definitely recommend the Full Metal Panic series of novels. They are definitely aimed at a young-adult audience (thats the technical term for 14+) but are actually quite good.

If you enjoy the FMP anime, then you really should read these.
