Will Madman's upcoming releases of Howl's Moving Castle have a native PAL or NTSC-PAL transfer? Same question for your existing releases of Appleseed (2004).

Thanks.

And both are very worthy of such treatment. What of GITS:Innocence?

Sweet, nice one. Anyway your release info page for the Howl's LE says that it's "PACKED WITH EXCLUSIVE EXTRAS". What exactly are these exclusive extras?
Thanks.

And once again the runtime of the movie is shown as the original R2 Japanese runtime. 119 minutes in a Direct HD to Pal transfer won't be 119 minutes. The French DVD is 114 minutes long. The R2 UK says it will be approx. 119 minutes!!!

Why don't you check these things immediately instead of giving us wrong info?

Either you give us a true PAL release or you don't. The runtime on your DVD-release page says you are giving us a NTSC-to-PAL release.

You weren't? I was doing it from age 8 or something.

On topic, I'm glad to see such transfers. If only everything could be transferred this way.

Ericf: were you looking at MM's catalogue or elsewhere?
MM has both editions listed as 114 mins as Sly pointed out, but EzyDVD has both the Limited Edition and Standard Editions listed as 119 minutes, which is an error on EzyDVD's part, not MM's.

I'm not sure, but it's most probably NTSC-to-PAL. To be on the safe side:- If you don't mind missing out on the extras then I recommend grabbing the R1 thinpak collection that's available on Amazon for cheap (Just the core 26 eps + the 4 DC eps in Japanese DD5.1+subs or English dub DD5.1, nothing more).

A little late to reply but this is the way it was: The Madman pages stated a runtime of 119 minutes. I wouldn't have commented otherwise. It is now 114 minutes but when I looked at the Madman pages the runtime for both the special Edition and regular edition was stated as 119 minutes.

And this from my original message:
"The runtime on your DVD-release page says you are giving us a NTSC-to-PAL release."

and we are telling you that the transfer is from a HDtoPAL source, how much more clear can we make it?

Hmm...
If one thing is said and another is written (like in the case with Appleseed and now with Howl's), there's a lot to discuss. Runtime is one of the most clear indicators of wether it's a Pal-to-NTSC transfer or not.
Since this was the second time the problem appeared with big releases I felt it necessary to comment on it.

Do remember the problems with Spirited Away? That, also, will always be a part of your history.

Having said that, I didn't reply to make this discussion any longer.
GITS SAC came through. Appleseed came through and now, hopefully, Howl's Moving Castle will come through as full HD to PAL releases.

It's just a shame that the other upcoming Ghibli movies won't be from true film masters (according to posts here they will be converted from NTSC to PAL).

It's all in the little details.

As has been stated before Howl's is a true HD to PAL transfer. All of the new Ghibli releases are also done in an inverse telecine process, yes we took the extra effort into doing this because we listened to the fans. You will find on the packging of Howl's that the running time is indeed 114 minutes. The fact that the entry in our catalogue didn't state the sped up running time was a simple oversight on our part. We base running times on the information that we are given.

PS I am now closing this thread as the original question has been answered too many times. Both are from HD to PAL masters and this is a fact.
