You remember the chaos of the Full Metal Alchemist vol 1 + tin and soundtrack release? Sold out in a few days didn't it? That *was* a limited release wasn't it? Because I was in JB Hi-Fi today, and I saw at least 5 FMA vol 1 + tin + soundtrack boxes as well as 1 of the 2nd tin where there were none before. Allow me to repeat that. Loads of the 1st tin suddenly appearing one day. What's the deal? Has Madman decided to go back on the limited release thing, or has JB been hoarding these hot sellers for nearly a year and suddenly decided to randomly break them out?

I'm thinking JB Hifi had a hidden box stashed at their Warehouse...which they just found now.

coldfire: That's hardly surprising, seeing that the second tin is a new release, but the first tin is nigh on a year since it sold out. If JB did manage to find a hidden cache of FMA vol 1 tins, wouldn't they put a big honkin' sign up saying "HOLY CRAP! Full Metal Alchemist vol 1 tins here! OMG!!!!" Very Happy

not really.

Most Dvd Retailers wouldn't even know the tins were limited. They'd just assume it was out of print

The reason why your JB popped up with so many was probbably because a fair few requests for them came out of your store.
So they sent a few more to your store than others.

But if they were as popular as they seemed to be (horror stories on the Madboards about trying to find a store that had them comes to mind...) wouldn't there be no JB HI-FIs that have them in stock to send?

Possibly.

The way they determined where to send the tins would likely be through popularity/request listings.
What stores had a larger request for the item.

Simple logic tells us that if we want to sell stuff, we put them in a place where there is demand for it.

Although the tins are going on a year old, I doubt all the order/request forms to the JB Warehouse were erased over that time.
Your store was probbably still high on the list for requests of that item, so they sent you more than others.

If your JB store is the only one with them, I suggest you buy them and then sell them on ebay Smile

Just a heads up to those in Melbourne that still want the first limited edition tin box for FMA, JB Hi-Fi in Bourke Street has just recently restocked a couple of these. I found at least 6-7 of these mixed in with the limited tin box 2 placed in a corner right next to the anime section. I finally decided to buy one these.

continue here.

Stock can stay from one store to another and then be shifted to other places where there are higher demand. We have no control over this since it is up to the stores in question and their warehousing and stock control system.

It is still like Howl's Moving Castle LE sold out at a distributor level.
