I'd like to know why the timer didn't do his/her job and timed the subs to the spoken japanese dialog on the Totoro DVD instead of putting the subtitles either 1 to 1.5 seconds late or 1 second early or, sometimes, correct on time?

It may not be a "technical" fault but it certainly is the first time I've seen a Madman DVD where the subs aren't in synch with the sound for most of the time.

How could you let this happen?

It's incredibly distracting.

I've not watched my Totoro DVD yet, but it sounds like the problem with the earlier releases of Ghost in the Shell, which Madman denied being a problem at all. *If* there is a problem here, let's hope it's not ignored.

Compared to the old Ghost in the Shell subtitle mistiming this is nothing. The subtitles are about a beat behind the audio and it's only an issue with the first third of the movie or so. After that the issue dissapears (that or I just mentally adjusted) but even though I noticed it, I didn't think it was anything worth commenting on.

The mistiming is through the whole film.
If the subs were 1-1.5 seconds behind all the time it wouldn't be distracting to the same extent.

But since the timing is sometimes 1-2 seconds before the dialog and sometimes on time and sometimes 1-1.5 seconds late it is really distracting. I didn't adjust to it and I shouldn't need to.

I honestly didn't notice the subtitle being out of sync...1-1.5 seconds is nothing really especially when you have long lines of text to read it helps that they appear a tad bit earlier so that you can catch up with the long fast dialouges...

Of course longer than 1.5 seconds it will start causing problems but honestly I didn't notice it in the first place...

No problems here either.

Used my PC (PowerDVD on Samsung DVD-ROM) and PS2 to watch the DVD.
