I went to DDD House to look up some some Japanese films, and I got the shock of my life when I went to have a look-see in the animation section while I was there;

Yes thats right, both the Return Of Godzilla (1984) and Godzilla Vs Biollante have been released by Universe in Hong Kong, with the orginal Japanese dialogue and ENGLISH SUBTITLES!!!! I didn't think this would happen ever. I'll be ordering them from Yesasia tonight!

Does this mean these two films will be available here in Australia on DVD -finally- in the forseeable future?

Their previous Godzilla releases weren't, so I'm guessing these two films won't be either. Mine won't ship until the Keroro The Movie is released (which surprisingly also has English subs), so I won't be able to tell for sure until then.

Hold on, just about Return of Godzilla (1984), why won't we being seeing it here any time soon? What are the issues behind it (considering we prety much got every other godzilla film released over here)?

They finally shipped last wee, but I only go to my PO box once a week, so I got them on Tuesday. With Return of Godzilla, I had previously only seen a messed up subtitled copy of the film from the famous US giant monster bootlegger who shall not be named. The video was messed up in the middle of the film.

It's a strange film. It's more like a disaster film with Godzilla rather than an actual Godzilla film. That giant Godzilla foot they used on location and the robotic Godzilla head that Toho made such a fuss about don't look that great on film. Some of the effects are quite good, especially the last shot of Godzilla. But the action really felt quite lethargic and the end song in English (and bits of Engrish) was kinda laughable.

It's probably a rights issue with New World who released a hacked up English version of the film in 1985. Same with Biollante. Dimension Films/HBO probably still hold the rights to that one.

Ive got my DVD's their in great shape Godzilla 1984 has one extra and the Biollante DVD is much clearer then the video.I dont think Godzilla 1984 is much of a disaster movie its more of a monster movie, unlike the Godzilla 1998 which is a disater movie which is crap. I got my DVD's from www.sensasian.com which sent me other Godzilla movies before. Very Happy
