They're not exactly expensive, around AU$50 you can get one according to a 5sec google search.
You could also get a TV tuner card for the PC with analogue & digital input (compro is good for that), but that probably costs a lot more (I forget how much mine cost).
Excellent news. Question is though, if they start in april, will they overtake the DVD release? _________________ 2146316 - The true nature of humanity.

This is cool, because Death Note is a series that's so good, it may cause some non-anime fans to see the light (heh, pun). I just hope it doesn't deter people from buying the DVDs.
Although having to wait a week between episodes would suck. I watched the entire series in 3 days... |

If anything it'll make people want to buy the dvds, depending on how many dvds are out by then, that said they can rewatch it on dvd whenever they like plus they can watch it on TV first to see if it worth purchasing.
I know after watching Noein on tv i want to buy it, same with cowboy bebop and Ergo Proxy _________________ I am a 100% Belldandy fan and Ah! My Goddess Obsessor! |

Same same. I only saw the first one or two eps of Ergo and Noien, and that sold me on buying the eventual FatPacks.
On the other hand I intend buying the FatPack of DeathNote anyway.. Seeing it on TV is just a bonus. _________________ XBL | SEN (PSN) | Steam

Hmm, that means jtv looks like it's being dropped, no big loss there.
Shame it conflicts with CSI:NY though, I like all things CSI. _________________ 2146316 - The true nature of humanity.

I'm glad Death Note is gonna be aired in Australia but will it be a TV version or the uncut episodes like the DVDs and most people have probably watch half the series online so the BIG question is will it get the ratings need to stay on air? _________________ D.Gray-man best anime of 2007/8. People really need to stop watching so much anime without considering to read the manga versions.
T.T Why must FUNimation destroy everything I love! It's beansprout not short stack! RIP D.Gray-man for western audiences. |

Not everybody "watches the series online", plus one can always tell their friends it's on, so they can watch it too.
There's a different TV version to what's on the DVDs? _________________ 2146316 - The true nature of humanity.

stupid question...
The series will be relesed on dvd but will air on TV before the dvd is out?
Not going to watch it on TV myself as i will wait for the dvd's but i know some people who are like "why get the dvd if you have seen it on TV" and wont bother buying the dvd. |

I asked the same thing earlier. Dunno the answer yet. Personally I would assume if anything, it showing on ABC2 would increase DVD sales, as it shows the series to people who otherwise wouldn't have seen it, thus potentially making them interested in buying the DVDs. _________________ 2146316 - The true nature of humanity.

This is good because unlike SBS, ABC2 seems to know what's good for TV and the young viewing audience. Can't wait to see what other anime they're going to air later on. |

Unfortunately the aspect ratio of Death Note was stuffed up, at least on the ABC2 in Melbourne. The first episode was shown 4:3 letterboxed, and not in 16:9 widescreen.
EDIT: The aspect ratio of the trailer on Madman web site looks the same though.

I caught it. It was awesome. Can't help but feel that it's REALLY similar to Bleach both visually and conceptually. Definitely darker, though. I love that it's on TV because it gives me something to look forward to every week. Also got my fiance to watch it and she seemed to like it, which is nice. _________________ XBL Gamertag: SikthMalignus

I have ordered Vol 1-4 from the US (why 6-9 months for the oz version)
But I saw it on ABC2 last night (first time hearing the dub version) I only knew about it while watching a delayed Good Games (my computer was recording it) and switched to live tv with 1 min to spare
It was good except for the postage stamp aspect ratio. So on my widescreen I has black borders on all sides _________________ King illegal forest to pig wild kill in it a is! |

It was actually 4 months. (DVD debuted in Nov in US and this is the standard amount of time it takes for us to release titles). _________________ Watch FREE Anime Episodes

I wonder if that is what Madman provided, considering the aspect ratio of the current Death Note trailer matches.
The ABC have shown episodes of other series (6Teen, Carl Squared) in wrong aspect ratio, in the past by mistake though.
I noticed the High Hair animated movie on SBS HD that night, was shown in a similar incorrect aspect ratio too. |

Just saw the ad for Death Note on ABC1, strange that they have it at full Widescreen.
They must have some uni students setting up shows for ABC 2, even when I was a video editor for a tv station (NBN Nine) I know how to set up proper aspect ratios.
Even if the source was sent as 4:3 I would of been tempted to convert it back to 16:9, sure the quality would take a hit, but really it you can get ABC2 then you are using a set top box and if you are, then there is a 90% that you have a widescreen tv, a CRT (like my mother) or a plasma/LCD _________________ King illegal forest to pig wild kill in it a is! |

I noticed that too, thought it was kind of odd. Then again, I didn't catch the episode locally, so I've only heard about the 4:3 problem second hand. _________________ 2146316 - The true nature of humanity.

Funny, that looks widescreen to me. 5 seconds in photoshop with the crop tool, and a calculator for reference, and I'm certain it's not just an illusion.
Why broadcast it at a smaller size if it's already at the right aspect ratio? _________________ 2146316 - The true nature of humanity.

Looks like they did it themselves to me. I've seen less artifacting in jpegs.
Still, better than watching stuff in 4:3. Also seems my mother has taken a liking to the series 0.o
Odd considering she normally goes for soapy stuff. _________________ 2146316 - The true nature of humanity.

My mum also love most of my 100+ anime DVD collection (but still trying to get her to watch Ah My Goddess). She liked the two Live action movies of Death Note. But she couldn't follow it too much as it wasen't dubbed. I phoned her last week 5 min before it started, she said she now understands it a little more. _________________ King illegal forest to pig wild kill in it a is! |
