|Held recently in Sydney, the Animania Festival played host to the first ever World Cosplay Summit Australian preliminary round. Having already hosted three previous state preliminaries in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, the main festival was time for all finalists involve to have one more chance to wow the selection judges with their dazzling costumes and be selected to represent Australia in the 2009 World Cosplay Summit.
Many teams competed and there were many highlights from the various competing teams but in the end the winning team was a unanimous decision by the judges who selected Gabriella Lowgren and Katherine Lee with their performance as Alphonse and Edward Elric from Fullmetal Alchemist.
The duo were spectacular in their performance, with a brilliant ?brotherly? theme that included a fight sequence as well as very touching bonding moments that wonderfully captured the Fullmetal Alchemist theme.
Both Lee and Lowgren will now be working together with the Australian team coach Kenny Travouillon for the next 12 months on their competing costume that they will be using to compete at the World Cosplay Summit 2009 in Nagoya Japan.
Be sure to check out our gallery of photos from the winners as well as other finalists at the Madman Fanzone events page. Also stay tuned for a interview with the duo in an upcoming issue of Anime Update magazine.
