Sony Pictures recently classified Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1987) Volumes 1, 2 & 3 for a DVD release, according to the OFLC web site. But no sign of other volumes, or release dates so far.
I expect they will match the Region 1 releases, judging by the episodes listed. |

If the TMNT DVDs have English subtitles, then I'm definitely going to pick them up.
If not, I'll hang on to my R1 copies. _________________ "They can be a great people Kal-El, they wish to be. They only lack the light to show the way. For this reason above all, their capacity for good, I have sent them you ... my only son." -- Jor-El |

WOO-****ING-HOO!
I was just trying to look around for getting these on import (Season one is now insanely hard to find), and came here out of absolute desparation (thinking maybe Madman have got it recently) to find Sony have got it.
This is awesome news.

Way cool although I thought Madman would try to make a move to get this series maybe.
They haven't had any retro series recently of big in particular. |

ezydvd.com.au now have TMNT Vols 1-3 listed on their site, all of them with a March 11 release date. No images of the covers yet. _________________ "They can be a great people Kal-El, they wish to be. They only lack the light to show the way. Are you sure it was for the original 1987 series? I can only find the "battle nexus" series that has a volume 13. _________________ He would stare at empty chairs

I expect the series didn't sell well enough, to continue. I'm not surprised either, since they split the later seasons into individual DVD volumes.
Unfortunately all the of old cartoon series (Extreme Ghostbusters, Men in Black, Real Ghostbusters) released on DVD by Sony seem to have failed, as they are all incomplete.

Only nine volumes of the 1987 series of TMNT have been released on DVD in Australia. Maybe you are confusing the later 2003 series? which had 16 single DVD volumes released. |

It's a shame really, altho NZ and Australia are a smaller audience you would think sales of these retro cartoons would be higher. It probably has a little to do with how the releases are handled too tho, they do shoot themselves in the foot by doing lackluster single volume releases. Sure they save money by doing bare bones stuff with horrible cover art, and I'm sure their plan is that they will make more money selling single volumes, stretching out the content they have at their disposal. But as a consumer I am far more likley to put my money down on a complete season set with attractive packaging and a few bonus materials, something thats had some care put into it, than I am to pay for something that looks like its been thrown out the door to make a quick buck. Regardless of how cheap the single volumes are.
You would think Sony would learn considering how many cartoon series they have started and ended up ditching. Especially since some of their licences are available in collectors sets overseas and have sold out or at least done very well. Sets like the Time Life Ghostbusters collection and the Magna Pacific Smurfs Ultimate collections, Madmans Transformers G1 collection, Shout Factorys Reboot Mainframe set etc impress people, not those "volume 4 has 10 episodes from season three and four" type deals.
Sorry for the rant but it always baffles me when companies get hold of a good or popular licence and sit on it or do crappy releases then wonder why people don't buy it. Where's my 80's Alvin and the Chipmunks season sets!! Lol |

I have to agree Tenko, I want Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle but the individual volume release put me off and knowing that Sony never finished releasing it on DVD puts me off even further and there are a few other shows that I would love to own on DVD but have never purchases because they have vol collections and not fully released. |
