Hold on to your horses, your making it sound like the anime is years old. VIZ aquired the series a month or two back and are planning for a fall (our spring) release. Madman will probably have announced it by then, if not soon after it's US debut.

Yeah. The Yotsuba arc was kinda boring but I think it made the overall storyline better because without it certain things wouldn't have happened...

Hey everyone!

One of the first things I intended to do once I got hired at www.animeacademy.com was to hold a contest of some sort. I just came back from Supanova with some Death Note merch in-hand (Clock, L plushie), so I decided to create the Epic Death Note Contest.

Basically to win this stuff you have to email in a screencap of a character from the Death Note anime doing an epic facial expression and a picture of yourself mimicking that expression to the best of your ability! The most creative/entertaining/accurate one wins!

While it's open to everyone on the interbutts and I'm willing to ship internationally, it would be alot less of a pain if an Australian won (in regards to postage cost), so give it a shot!

Volume 5 of the manga would have to be the low point for me. I'm one the few people who like the M & N arc.

Yup, Volume 5 was not as good as the rest of the manga.

I love the M & N arc. It's awesome

Last yr i had hoped for 50 eps, but now that they've covered so much chapters, Death Note will last only for another 2 months. I've been dreading the countdown. Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

Viz now has the first two episodes for download on their site. It's only for US residents unfortunalty, but at least something has happened.

I like the voice they have given light. Only because it makes him sound like a whiny little teenager (which at the start he is) and i just don't like him.

Not really. It's true Light does sound a bit off I don't think that L sounds too old. He is nearly a decade older than Light after all.

So Madman just announced (in their newsletter) that they have Death Note, to the surprise of absolutely nobody. Razz

It's coming out in February 2008, and so are the two live-action movies (which I'm also looking forward to seeing).

i have since finished reading the manga (as well as the poor vol13 manga) and tbh i don't care about watching the anime, it all got tedious and I don't have the time to waste watching the anime,

i'd give the manga itself 8/10, it just never recovered after Light lost his memory and ended up getting tedious reading it, i ended up wanting to finish it just for the sake for finishing it and not because i was really into it, a shame really

Death Note is just one of those shows that even if you've watched the entire series through *other sources* you still plan on buying the official DVD release. I know I am, I love death note to...death. *giggle*

I find it interesting on who Viz chose to play Light. One of my fave VA's Brad Swaile plays him and Brian Drummond is Ryuk. For those trying to picture the voice that'll be used for Light, below are some of the characters he has played.

Rock - Black Lagoon
Takeshi - Project ARMS
Suzuo/Dokkoida!? - Dokkoida!?
Harry Champ - Zoids New Century
Reiji - Dragon Drive
Otaru - Saber Marionette J

The entire list of VA's for Death Note is below:

Light Yagami - Brad Swaile
"L" - Alessandro Juliani
Ryuk - Brian Drummond
Misa - Shannon Chan-Kent
Rem – Colleen Wheeler
Soichiro Yagami – Chris Britton
Matsuda – Vincent Tong
Mogi – John Murphy
Raye Penber – Michael Adamthwaite
Aizawa – Trevor Devall
Ukita – Jeremy From
Naomi Misora – Tabitha St. Germain
Ide – Brian Dobson

An interesting selection, but having Brian Dobson, Brian Drummond and Brad Swaile in the series is pretty good.

I wonder if they should put a warning on the DVDs, saying things like:

1. Using your computer to kill bad people will not work in real life.
2. Even if it works, you will be hunted down by the cops, even though you are doing the 'right' thing.
3. This anime should not be used to give you ideas on how to kill people, and no, bashing people over the head with laptop PCs shall be encouraged.

Because if they don't...somehow people will soon make a PC that allows me to kill people and I won't be held responsible if I'm caught by Japanese police for crimes I didn't commit.

There was a Death Note special that aired in August that told the the story from the unique vantage point of Ryuk, Light's shinigami. It contains new footage and dialogue that was not in the original TV show. It goes for about 2 hours.

It was released a day or so ago by a group of subbers.

Really? To each his own I guess. I just like this series (not having seen the anime, mind you) 'cause it doesn't have to resort to over the top action to add a tenseness to it.

Though, really, once L dies the series looses it's edge and starts to produce a heck of alot more WTF?! moments than the first half.

Wait, what? I never remember this happening...

Also, simply cannot wait for Death Note's release. Every episode of the series was fantastic and as such, here's my list of what to pre-order from my local store:
-Death Note Vol 1 with Collectors Box and Ryuk figure
-Death Note movie 1 & 2 pack (thanks muchly Madman)
-Ryuk bookends

definitely, having only read the manga it definitely goes downhill after that happens, still of high quality but just not nearly as good or suspenseful as the beginning, that's what ultimately keeps me from pursuing a purchase of the manga or looking into watching the anime or movies

Meh, even though the suspense drops off a little bit after that, I still immensely enjoyed the series and can't wait to buy the DVD's.

According to the box's fill-out cardboard thingy, here's what's planned:

1. Ryuk
2. Light
3. L
4. Jealous
5. Misa
6. Rem
7. The first one on the bottom row of yor picture in the other thread (girl with yellow hair)
8. Second figure on the top row of first picture
9. unrevealed

cool,thanks for the info.

if volume 9 is unrevealed then theyre probably gonna do the same thing as japan and release the king of death.as you can see by the pics they were all visible in the packaging, but vol 13 was enclosed, had a question mark on it and secret written over a sihouette of the figure!
