I know there's a ton of movies out for Evangelion, and as I'm almost finished the TV series I'm interested in starting them.
I've been told to skip Death & Rebirth as it's a rehash of the TV series, watch End of Evangelion for a 'true' ending, skip Revival as it's Death & Rebirth + EoE, and start watching the Rebuild movies.
I tried searching Madman for End of Evangelion, but nothing comes up - was End of Evangelion ever released in Australia, and if so by whom? I can't find any details about it. |

End of Eva was released in aus, but it's unfortunately not for sale anymore, I was very lucky finding my copy when I did.
IMO you should watch Death and Rebirth, as well as End, just for completion sakes, but finding them would be hard (legit anyways). |

Damn, looks like EoE will be a hard movie to track down. It's a shame I came to the series so late, otherwise I might have had better luck.
Maybe I'll have to end up importing it, which I don't really want to do if I can avoid it. I might trawl around online a bit longer though and see if I can find anything. |

You can try to buy a Region 1 or Region 2 format DVD off of Ebay or Amazon. Region 4 versions of The End of Evangelion sell for exorbitant amounts on Ebay - Last one I saw sold for $117.
Yes, The End of Evangelion is a must see and in it is the same ending as the series, just told in a different way. Thus a much more cinematic and expansive way. |

Madman's release had them on seperate ones actually, so 2 DVDs, 1 per movie.
Not sure how the US release stuff went. |

Any tips to spot bootlegs? I'm definately looking to go legit when I purchase it.
Any chance Madman would do a reprint at some point in the future, do you think? |

Madman no longer hold the license for the Evangelion series... so unless they reacquire it, they won't be reprinting it.
As for avoiding bootlegs... unless its the MM version, don't buy it. This page has a lot of info on the box set and individuals.

I might start looking around a few local places then, hopefully a Sanity someplace will have something. If all else fails I might try out Amazon, although it looks like I'd be paying a ton for a single disc.
Thanks for all your help guys, you've been really helpful! |

Takorax wrote: | I might start looking around a few local places then, hopefully a Sanity someplace will have something. | Sanity is a good place to look to try to find some of the harder to get sets as they often have anime put in a little section that you barely notice, they unwrap the dvd's and usually their prices are fairly high compared to elsewhere thus putting a lot of people off buying from there in the first place.
The best bet would be to look for an original Madman release in good condition on Ebay or a quality 2nd hand dvd/record/cd store (such as Dixon's in Victoria). I'm in the same boat as you, am trying to find the EoE boxset to complete my R4 Eva collection.

Borders would also be a decent place, their anime is expensive as. I've seen $40 for single DVD's so its a good place to look for harder to find titles, I got my End of Eva from their and an Elfen lied boxset. They also had the original Cowboy Bebop box brand new there too but it's gone now, it was like $130 though. |

I have been scouring the Earth for a Region 4 copy also. I have even checked places like Myer, K-Mart, Sanity, HMV, Target and so on - Because they will usually have stock that has been there, hidden away for a very long time.
Copies of The End of Evangelion used to be in abundance. I purchased the Platinum DVD collection of the series when that was released but I was always short on funds to purchase the movie whenever the opportunity arose.
I will just pine away until the day. |

A bit of food for thought... I sent an email off to Shin Tokyo about them possibly having it in stock, got this message back -
Quote: | Hi Andrew,
We try to keep out of print titles in stock for as long as possible.
Unfortunately this one hasn't been available for a few years.
Madman does keep saying they plan to re-release this.
Regards,
William

However, Sleepless Beauty posted this earlier in the thread -
Quote: | Madman no longer hold the license for the Evangelion series... so unless they reacquire it, they won't be reprinting it. |
Makes me wonder if Madman have plans to reobtain the license or something. |

They still hold the license for the series... but it was made mention on these boards somewhere that they no longer hold the license for the movies. _________________ He would stare at empty chairs

Manga used to hold the licence to Death and Rebirth and EoE in the US, but recently its come to light that they no longer have it, which is good news for all Eva fans because it could see a new release of the movies and the remastered versions. _________________ I live here: EvaGeeks.org |

So some remastered editions like the Platinum collection of the TV series exists? Awesome. I might hold out for a potential release then rather than try to hunt down existing copies.
On my next trip up to Sydney I might try and hunt down a Borders store regardless, just to try my luck. |

If it is released again on DVD, it would not be a re-mastered edition but probably a definitive version - Which I do hope happens. |

The films were remastered in Japan the same time the series was, we got Platinum from ADV, but we never saw the release of the remastered films because Manga are lazy. So now they no longer hold the licence, hope is in sight. _________________ I live here: EvaGeeks.org |

Another thing I just though of just then is that maybe when all of the rebuild's are done these being 1.0,2.0,3.0 and 4.0 they may decide to male the movies. It is just a thought. _________________ When you kiss you like too... |

Just wondering if you have a link to an article somewhere that shows they lost the license? I've done some searching around and everything I've found indicates that they still have it. |

Na it wont be. Looking at the trailer to 2.0 you can see some bits and pieces that look like some of the events that occured in EOE. It has been incorporated into them. |
