Code Geass: Australia an independent nation.

I was watching the latest episode put on the madman screening room and I couldnít help but wounder whatís going on in Australia in the Code Geass world. In an anime that shows so much of world events itís amazing to see Australia sticking out like a saw thumb as a massive independent nation in the middle of the map.

It has been said ďMaybe Australia simply isnít important enough.Ē But if that was true you would think they would just throw it on one side or the other randomly. But instead at a time when there is such huge world wide conflict it seems a dangerous move to declare yourself one of the only independent countries. Are the other armies scared of us? Dose the platypus just make them think we secretly have a mutant army in the work?

But even beyond that with the rest of the world changed so much what is the Code Geass Austrailia like? Where we still an English prison colony? Whats our flag even look like? Dose our land secretly nullify all Geass powers for some reason?

Probably just over thinking it. In fact in a way itís kind of fun not knowing as one can make wild unfounded guesses. I am curious what the rest of you think. I canít be the only person who has wondered about this.

It's Sunrise's way of making up for what they did to us in UC gundam.

Well, towards the end of R2 Sydney (if that is what it is called in Geass) is targeted in Schneizel to be wiped out. Of course that does not come to.

Also, i may be wrong but I think the Britannian Empire only expanded to secure the "Thought Elevators" under Charles' order , so i guess we can assume Australia was lucky enough not to have one.

Well the continent is presumably inhabited since that's where Mao planned to take CC. I've always wondered if we might have become a French colony since in the real world a French expedition arrived at Botany Bay only a few weeks after the First Fleet and the penal settlement at Hobart was founded specifically to pre-empt the French.

To be honest I hardly even noticed anything about Australia Embarassed!

But I have to say that I am pretty sure we would have super-fast broadband. Because in an alternate future, there would be no Telstra and the Labor government would be more proactive Razz. At least that's how I'd want it to be!

Heh - we noticed this too, while watching Code Geass last night.

There's probably a grain of truth in Dr. Jackal's comment about the Thought Elevators.

But I like to think it's because of our mutant wildlife Twisted Evil

The Brittanian Empire made a decision to leave Australia untouched so as not to interrupt the filming of Neighbours and Home and Away.

Only thing I can think of is that, since the American Revolution failed, the American colonies were still under British control and thus there was no need to colonise Australia.

I couldn't agree more.
Although, Australia is hardly the most tactically important geographical positon in the world. Australia is too far removed from most other global centres to warrant international and tactical military interest.

Having this in mind, both concerned parties (The Holy Britannian Empire & The Black Knights, et al.) might have simply chosen to omit Australia from their plans entirely as to them controlling this land might have seemed a useless redundancy.

Hell even in the real world with its plethora of nation states and superpowers, Australia doesn't pop up often enough to seriously be considered a target for any military force. Just think about it, when was the last time Australia came under attack from a foreign power of any kind?

I could very well be mistaken, but, I think that you would have to go back to the people who colonized Australia in the 18th Century for that. Just going by what I know.

Ah, I see, I am not the best when it comes to military history. Which force attacked on those occasions. the Japanese?

Thanks for the info.

Define foreign power. Because if you include non-state organisations, than the JI terrorist attack on our embassy in Jakarta in 2004, embassies defined as being the territory of the country they belong to by diplomatic convention. Though if your defining Australia as just our claimed territory...

Yes, you would be mistaken. That would be the Japanese bombing raids in Northern Australia (Darwin most famously but Broome (WA) and Townsville and Mossman (QLD) ranging 1942-1943 as well as submarine attacks on Sydney and Newcastle in 1942. Also there was the New Guinea campaign, though technically it wasn't part of Australia but a British protectorate administered by Australia.

History fun fact: Despite fears at the time and the printing of Australian Yen equivalent to the scrip used in other occupied territories, those attacks were to disrupt shipping and flight patterns and not a prelude to an invasion. Most because the Imperial Army told the Imperial Navy that they were crazy if they expected them to take and hold so much land and the end of such a long supply line.

Edit: And Travaku beat me to it since I took the time to be comprehensive.

To clarify I was strictly refering to the Nation of Australia itself and as for Foreign Powers I was refering to any nation which is not aligned with Australia in the same vein that the United Kingdom and The United States are.

Thanks once again for the information. It is amazing how others can fill gaps in ones memory.
