From time to time, eggs may appear on Eastern Eye DVD releases. For those of you who may not know, eggs represent "hidden" content that may have been placed on a DVD for added user options, variations of particular DVD content, or sometimes just for fun. Cool

I'll use this topic to announce any eggs, but maybe you'll be able to find them first? So far this will be exclusive to the MadBoards only!

This is also a good place for any discussion (or even ideas for eggs?).

--
SEVEN SAMURAI

On the Eastern Eye DVD, the main movie doesn't contain the theatrical intermission. However, if you press "enter" on your remote during the Theatrical Trailer, an egg is triggered that will play the movie with the theatrical intermission included in it's correct place.

This feature is seamless on ALL DVD players.

Time for some more:

PRINCESS BLADE
DARK WATER

KARAOKE MODE

On both of these titles, if you press "enter" on your remote during the theatrical trailer you activate an egg that plays the feature movie with M&E audio only.

M&E is "music & effects" and it's basically the full movie sound but with the voices taken out. So you could play the movie and add your own dialogue! Smile

While on a roll......

THE GRUDGE

"GRUDGE 2" TRAILER

In the "Extras" section, there is a "Trailers" section. If you are sitting in the "Trailers" menu for 2 mins the DVD will automatically play the Theatrical Trailer for The Grudge 2 (JU-ON 2).

Sorry, there wasn't any room on that DVD for any eggs, otherwise there would've been one on there. From memory there was only 8Mb free on Layer 0 and about 20Mb on Layer 1!

Here's another one though...

BICHUNMOO

OUTTAKES & BLOOPERS

If you press "Enter" on your remote during the "Music Video" extra, it will play a montage of outtakes and bloopers from the film.

That's strange, I said for like 5 mins in the trailers section just like you said, and nothing happened.

Sorry I missed this message before...

The "egg" is only on the retail release of The Grudge and not the rental. Was your disc a rental?

Did you get em on Sunday arvo? That's when I was there. Smile

Yes there are eggs on both discs!

INFERNAL AFFAIRS

MUSIC VIDEO

If you go up or left from the first item on the "Extras" menu (Alternative Ending) you will get an Eastern Eye logo which will link to a DVD credits page (lots of EE releases have these in this spot). Without selecting this, if you go either left or right, some Chinese characters will show up (incidentally these characters mean "Mandarin language"). Select this link it will play the Mandarin version of the music video, which has a slightly different video.

One of the behind-scenes extras also shows a bit of the making of this version of the music video.

I'll post the Versus one up soon. I don't have a disc handy at the moment.

Sorry, there aren't any eggs on those DVDs.

Ah I forgot about that. Embarassed

VERSUS

EXTENDED PROMO TRAILER

In the Trailers menu, play all four menus in sequence (you can play then skip to the end if impatient). Once you get to the end of the fourth trailer, the DVD will return to the Trailers menu but with the top of the Versus image highlighted (a red horizontal line). Select this and it'll play an extended promotional trailer that includes some "Behind Scenes" footage. (Running time 4'30")

Of course, if you play the DVD on a comp you can circumvent this by just doing a mouseover and finding the secret button. Cool

SNEAK PEEK INTO NAPALM FILMS

Go to the Credits page (end of feature or go up from the first link in the Extras menu). If you wait for exactly 2 mins in this menu it'll play a short clip (~ 1 min), which is a quick tour of Napalm Films.

Hi Chris.
Are there any easter eggs on the Musa DVD?
(although I doubt it as it would be very full as it is)

Unfortunately there are no eggs on any of those three DVDs. Both JSA and Musa were way too full (Musa because of the length of the feature, JSA because of the amount of extras). Godzilla, simply didn't have anything available at the time to use.

Arahan has one though. Cool

How's this for a late reply? From memory it's left/right while in the Original Trailers menu.

There's a cool one in Grudge 2 to look out for. Smile

Thanks for that egg in Ju-On! I was pleased to see the trailer for Ju-On 2 when it was just sitting there. I was surprised too, as I wasn't expecting anything to pop up like that!

Hope there's room for more on the Ju-On 2 DVD!

Just out of curiousity, could you please put all the easter eggs in the first post Chris? It makes it easier to read instead of scrolling through the thread.

On both of these titles, if you press "enter" on your remote during the theatrical trailer you activate an egg that plays the feature movie with M&E audio only.

M&E is "music & effects" and it's basically the full movie sound but with the voices taken out. So you could play the movie and add your own dialogue! Smile
Aw man! That is sooo cool! I'm gonna bring that out at a party for some drunken laughs. XD

Any eggs on Love Exposure?
It would have been awesome if you guys had included some of the special features from the Japanese release, like the interview with the up skirt photographer friend of Sono's that the film's based on in particular. The making-of would have been awesome too, along with the selection of deleted scenes, but I guess including all of that would probably have bumped it up to 3 disks like the Japanese release huh.
