Hi Madboard Gundam heads,

I've recently invested a bit of effort in putting together a sub forum within a friend's forum for Gunpla and Gundam enthusiasts in Australia.

I've emailed Mr. Waffle about making this thread and over 24 hours has gone by without a response, so I'm assuming it's ok....? Mods please let me know if it's not and I'll take the thread straight down.

I would like to cordially invite anyone reading this, gunpla/gundam enthusiast or otherwise, Australian or otherwise, to come over for a look, and maybe even sign up and contribute a post!

We are pretty relaxed with the rules over there, we only ask for a bit of courtesy and common sense.

We openly encourage you to make a new thread for every build you wish to chronicle, and another thread of cool pose photos when it's done! The idea is to have an easy reference list of builds and poses so you don't have to trawl through heaps of pages of pics to find the kits that interest you.

We welcome everyone from GunNoobs to NewPla pro's. You'll find that we're a friendly and easy going place.

There's also a thread for pics of entire collections - I'd like to see yours!

You can make and/or participate in threads for new releases, what you are buying, cool builds you've found on the net, series and game discussion, maybe even a trading area, modelling tips, and just general banter if you wish.

The forum has it's own image uploader and server so there's no need to use external image hosts if you don't want to. I've uploaded plenty of pics of my kits with many more to come!

I've posted a few bits of info here and there, and would be more than glad to see some contributions and pick up some new info.

It's in it's infancy at the moment, but if there is some interest I will set up a website with a Gundam AU forum in the not too distant future!

So come on over and sign up GunOta's! What are you waiting for?!

I've noticed a signifigant increase in hits on the threads since I posted links in my posts here and at the mechatalk forums, so I know you're lurking! Haha.

I look forward to seeing you there!

Oh... sorry. I note your intolerance of Gundam noobs and offer my apologies. Unless that was intended as a joke, in which case, haha!

How about Gundam enthusiasts?

I had intended that in the context of heads, or people if you prefer, that are into gundam. Not in the context of a flailing mecha fused to a human torso.

Thank you.

It would appear that you're not the only one!

Does anyone that posts here still build gunpla?

Or am I the last lonely Plamotaku?

I wouldn't mind trying Gundam Modelling but looking at the prices of the models they would burn a hole in my pocket and I don't have the time either.

Thanks for registering Amuro-Rey!!

SquallX it's not as expensive as you think. Simple kits often sell for under $10. You just have to know where to look. Feel free to come and have a look at the Gundam Australia Forum where you may find some more info if you're interested.

Gunplas are made in different grades with higher grade more expensive.
At the top of the chain sits the PG which is Perfect Grade followed by MG and then HGUC. There are also non grade 1/100, 1/144 and others at 1/60 at varying price.

And there's the extreme end where you can spend thousands of dollers like 1/12 scale HY2M or 1/24... More reasonable ones like 1/60 HY2M though still very expensive~

GOD SONAR! I was checking out your PG 1/60 Wing Zero Custom and I wasn't even past the progress shots of the completed legs before I was drooling AND THEN when I saw the completed model, I had decided there was nothing more that I want at the moment then that model!

I wish there was a class I could take at one of the Cons, im a little afraid to start this model business.

Haha. Thanks man. I really enjoyed finishing that model. I just gave it pride of place in my display cabinet on the weekend.

Don't fear, as has been mentioned just buy yourself a HG 1/144 kit that you think looks cool to start with. The're really simple to assemble and the instructions are all pictures and really easy to follow, and they're not that expensive. They don't require any paint or glue to assemble, just a pair of small wire cutters / hobby nippers. You can pick nice HG kits up at Hobbyco in Sydney for about $20. There are other online options which I don't think Madman want me talking about here so feel free to come over to The Gundam Australia Forum if you'd like to hit me up for some more info. I'd be happy to help. There's also a beginners guide to Gunpla modelling there that you can read. It's even quite a bit simpler than the guide outlines. You can put as much or as little effort into building them as you like and still wind up with something you'll enjoy looking at.

It's fun and rewarding, I honestly couldn't encourage you enough to give it a go! Smile

I disagree with the youse of superglue, even for brakes in the parts you should youse model cement, as it is designed to fuse light plastics like Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene and Poley Styrene together as apposed to superglue which is meant to stick skin together, and wouldn’t make a seamless join like cement would.

I agree with that. I use Mr. Cement where necessary. I didn't write the guide though, it's someone else's work from the Mechatalk forums. I will add an annotation to the thread quoting you if that's ok? Thanks for pointing it out. There's actually a few things in there I wouldn't do myself but it's a nice basic read for beginners.

I find it to be in poor taste to quote one's self, but I was never known for my class.

New content, members, and general stuff to look at now at the G.A.F!!!

Don't be shy, we don't bite!

Very Happy

Just a quick note to let you guys know that we are nearing completion of our own independent website. Smile

The forum has grown in leaps and bounds over the last twelve months, hence finally migrating to our own website. We now have two group builds going and are always more than happy to help out anyone with an interest in taking up the hobby with some friendly advice.

Links in my sig for anyone who is interested in taking a look.

Thanks for reading.

Just a quick note to apologize for the extended outage of the forum of late for anyone who's interested. Our host had a catastrophic server explosion and we are slowly recovering the data and transferring over to our new host and site. We hope to have something up and running for you as soon as possible, in the meantime see you at BAKUC!

I've just realized that the majority of links I've posted in this thread are now redundant due to the server failure/migration. Sorry about that. Embarassed

We hope to have the old forum data recovered and converted soon, but in the meantime we've done pretty well at starting from scratch. Click the link in my sig if you're interested in checking it out. Smile
