As reported by ANN, the novels that the anime is based on will soon be available translated into English.

Good news Very Happy A shame the first one isn't due until April 2009, but that won't stop me from getting them..

A related announcement also mentioned that they're releasing the first 4 (of 5, so far) volumes of the manga too - I've already got them in Japanese, but no doubt the English versions will find their way to my bookshelf too Smile

(Goodness knows how long to the second tv season dances it's way over here)

Since late October. In any case, this thread is intended to be about the original novels, not the manga adaptation.

I can't say I'm overly impressed with the cover for the English translation.

It's not like plain can't be good... but personally, I'd have preferred that Itou Noiji's cover illustrations were kept.

Which version is that one? There's supposed to be a standard version and an 'otaku-friendly' deluxe version for $5USD dearer.

There is? If so, that's news to me. This is the only one Diamond has listed for pre-order.

Well, I guess as long as the original cover illustration is there somewhere, it's fine.

Diamond Comic Distributors.

Hmm. Looks like they're sticking with the original cover art for the hardcovers, and using the more minimalist one for the softcovers.

yeah. probably. i read a while ago that Yen Press was doing this not only for anime/manga fans, but for a wider teen audience, and marketing it that way. i guess the hardcover people are more likely to be manga fans?

If that's the case, I find it a tad odd that Diamond only have the softcover listed, and Amazon only have the hardcover.

In any case, I think it's more that the fans who care more about the original cover art are the more hardcore collectors who'd go for hardcovers anyway.

I've just ordered the first of the English translations of the Haruhi novels: does anyone know how many have been translated thus far or have some idea of the schedule for translated releases?
(The copy I've ordered is the hardback issue, around the $20 AUD mark)

Cool, thanks a heap. I seems they also have Higurashi there... May have to write up a list of stuff for Christmas!

Never actually read the novels or Manga, but since the second season got me back into it I shall have to spend some time buried in books! Smile

Huh, you're right! Looks like a confusing muck up on book repository's end.

Are there only 4 novels and 8 manga releases?

The manga is ongoing in Japan; it is up to volume 11. Nine novels (some are actaully short story collections, such as the third) have been released in Japan, with the tenth being written. The 4 an 8 you ask about matches the translated versions solicited for sale so far.

www.fishpond.com.au

Australian based site that I've been getting mine from. Free shipping anywhere in Australia for anything over AUD$50. My order for Disappearance (the fourth novel) should [probably ship Monday.
