I've had it preorderd from Amazon Japan for over a month, it's better to buy it from there as it's cheaper.
The specs will be interesting though, the official site for it seems to mention english subs and the english dub while cdjapan doesn't list any subs,,,

I don't suppose you could provide a link to that? If this does have English subs, I'd be interested. Not sure if I'd be 30,000 yen interested, but English subtitles would make it worth considering.

Don't worry, I actually did do my research on this one. Razz

The official site lists it:
http://translate.google.com/translate?js=y&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&layout=1&eotf=1&u=http%3A%2F%2Fharuhi.tv%2Ffanclub%2Fgoods_bdbox_haruhi.html&sl=auto&tl=en

It's also mentioned by some people who can actually read japanese inthe AnimeOnDVD forums... http://www.mania.com/aodvb/showthread.php?t=101509

I'm concerned about the region free coding as I've read that this type of coding is associated with bootlegs. I'd rather wait for the blu-ray to be released in Australia before buying it.

Region coding on BDs is optional. The piracy stigma generally only applies to DVDs. It would be hard for bootlegs to survive being listed on major sites like Amazon (not counting Marketplace sellers).

When the price tag is around $350 and it's from Japan you're pretty safe there. BTW region coding on BDs is NOT optional. It all depends on the rights that each company has.

The official site I linked to(depending on whether that part is translated correctly by google) does mention both subs and a dub, however CDJapan mentions an english dub with no subs whilst hmv japan says english subs with no dub.

There is also a recent history of English subs being on Haruhi releases as the upcoming Haruhi-chan/Churuya-san BD boxed set will have them, as well as the R2 Haruhi season 2 dvd's had them as well.

Well, I bought season one locally on DVD and upon receiving a larger cheque than expected, ordered the BD collection from CD Japan (one hour after the earthquake hit). [The audio on the episodes was Japanese and English, with a single English subtitle, so if you wanted to read the translations of text shown, you had to turn on all sub-titles, unlike the Madman DVD release].

Besides turning a friend into a fan, the show made me notice a couple of things:

1: I saw a class of Japanese exchange students in Japanese style uniforms at work (seriously).

2: I saw a Nagato lookalike on the train to work a couple of times.

The orchestral concert on the BD was excellent also.
