I really want someone (such as the ever lovable Madman) to release the films of José Mojica Marins. He's a Brazillian director best known for his cult horror icon Coffin Joe.
He's made numerous movies and TV series over the years, the two most well known being At Midnight I'll Take Your Soul (1964) and its sequel This Night I Will Possess Your Corpse (1967). Both of these titles have played on SBS. He recently completed a third title in the trilogy, Embodiment of Evil, which has been playing to great reviews at film festivals around the world. This latest title would definitely be suitable for Madman's Asylum brand, though Sony was involved with it's production and have released it on DVD in Brazil, so may do the local release themselves.
Seven Coffin Joe films as well as a Sundance award winning documentary on Marins are available to be licensed from One Eyed Films. Hopefully Madman can get these titles as they truly deserve to be seen. _________________ "Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former."

How about releasing these'So Bad-They're Good' horror/sf movies on dvd;
BLOODFREAK -Totally insane 1972 horror flick about a dope addict who gets some odd drug put in his turkey while dining on it and turns into a turkey-headed murderer. This 'no budget' movie has to be seen to be believed!
EQUINOX -1970 horror movie about a group of teenagers who search for a missing scientist and meet up with a demonic figure named Mr.Asomedus and his monster henchmen. Supposedly inspired the Evil Dead movies.
DRACULA VS. FRANKENSTEIN -From Al Adamson, the successor to Ed Wood in the 'really bad movie' stakes. Exactly what the title suggests!
If Madman can release any of the above movies on dvd I'll be forever grateful! |

Boachi Bushido: Code of the Forgotten Eight
Demon Spies
Both are Japanese films bases on the manga of Kazuo Koike (Lone Wolf and Cub, Lady Snowblood). _________________ "Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former."

Red Cliff Pts. 1 and 2
IMDb for Pt. 1
IMDb for Pt. 2
John Woo's epic historical action film. Flippin' awesome couple of films that boast an exceptional cast, amazing battles, genuine drama and tension and some pretty fantastic effects work for a non-Hollywood flick. Could really be a tentpole Eastern Eye title. More info on Wikipedia, but I couldn't get the link to work. |

Would Hansel and Gretel (2007 - Korea) be a title that Eastern Eye would consider releasing?
Here's the Wikipedia link: Although it doesn't seem to be working properly(?)

It helps if you put opening and closing URL tags around the link. Just typing in an address like that is autokill if it has parentheses [these things-> ( )].
I'd also like the two-part Red Cliff. Not really much chance for it, though, if someone's releasing the "Western" version. They could release the two-part version on DVD, I suppose, but the chance of that would be small; a BD version smaller still. _________________ Nullus Anxietas |

I (still) suggest all three chapters of 20th Century Boys on Blu-ray. The only English-friendly release is still the HK release, and that's not got proper English subtitles (it has Chinese and English simultaneously on-screen) *and* is Region-A locked (so no good for us Region-Be(e)rs).
The movies are being released in the UK, but only on DVD. _________________ Adelaide Movie Buffs (info on special screenings, contests, etc. relevant to Adelaideans) |

The Japanese complete collection boxset for 20th Century Boys looks sweet as!
Such a shame it's still not had a proper English-friendly release (the Japanese release has no English subtitles, the HK is Chinese/English subtitled, like VCDs are). _________________ Adelaide Movie Buffs (info on special screenings, contests, etc. relevant to Adelaideans) |

Though the following excellent Samurai films are available in R1, there are no PAL format, Eng subbed releases AFAIK;
Seppuku aka Harakiri (d Masaki Kobayashi, 1962)
Goyoshin (Hideo Gosha, 1969)
Samurai Rebellion (Masaki Kobayashi, 1967)
Also this Japanese crime family saga: Onimasa (Hideo Gosha, 1982)
Then there's Yasuzo Masumura, some 60+ features before his death, a versatile & imaginative director. In recent years there've been a few festival tours of select movies in the west but otherwise he's still almost unknown. There are in all about 9-titles on DVD split between the US & UK. Still, any of the following (PAL format naturally) would be a film fans delight:
Blind Beast (1969)
Manji (1964)
Irezumi (
Giants and Toys (1958)
Red Angel (1966)
A Wife Confesses (1961)
The Precipice (1958)
The Wife Of Seinshu Hanoaka (1967)
Afraid to Die (1960)
Black Test Car (1962)
Helpful intro to Masumura's work here:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/films/festivals/yasuzo_masumura_sep_2005.shtml
Of more recent filmmakers how about some Johnny To? In particular the superb 'Running Out Of Time (2000) - a movie at least as good as 'Infernal Affairs' - is just crying out for an improved DVD. The UK disc has an excellent transfer but some of the worst English subtitling I've ever seen. Misspellings abound - 'Interpol' is spelt as 'Interlope'(!) - & one key scene explaining the relationship between Andy Lau's character & the mysterious old man is so badly translated it's easy to miss a pivotal plot point. To's 'Running on Karma' is very enjoyable & would make a good release as well.
More Ha Yu! The writer/director of the stunning 'A Dirty Carnival' could do with DVd's for his 'Once Upon A Time In High School' (2004) & 'Marriage Ia A Crazy Thing' (2002).
Would also really appreciate a release of Ki-duk Kim's 'The Bow' (2005) & any other as yet unavailable titles from this filmmaker.
Thanks for reading! |

I know Sony has them in the US, but as Madman has the other Toho movies, I was suprised these weren't released:
Mothra (1961)
Rebirth of Mothra (1996)
Rebirth of Mothra II (1997)
Rebirth of Mothra III (1998)
I think this year the US is getting a Rebirth Trilogy. |

King Naresuan looks pretty cool. Although Wikipedia says it's a 2-parter, I've read elsewhere it's three (including a prequel).

Yakosoku aka The Rendezvous (1972)
This romantic thriller set onboard a train stars Keiko Kishi. It ranks as one of Kimema Junpo's 100 Greatest Japanese Films of All Time yet remains (AFAIK) unavailable in any Eng subbed version. Somewhat frustrating to say the least.

I saw Detroit Metal City at JFF last year and thought it was hilarious, so I'd love to see that get a release!
Some other's I'd like to see include:
Yukio Ninagawa's Snakes and Earings (蛇にピアス)
Momoko Ando's Kakera
The rest of Sion Sono's collection of films such as Noriko's Dinner Table, Strange Circus, Hazard etc.
The Gantz films would be awesome too a couple of years down the track.
There are a heap more that I'd love to see get a release over here, and I'll probably keep coming back here as I think of them, but those are the one's that jump out for now.
Cheers! |

I'd love, love, love "Detroit Metal City" to get a release here. I think VIZ Pictures have just gotten the license for DVD distribution in North America so I guess it'll be available through amazon and the like soon. I'm hoping for a region 4 release myself.

Hi! BTW, someone refered me there earlier. Anyway...I'm suprised Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon didn't make your list yet. Well, I hope you can put this show on your Eastern Eye release calendar soon. (well, it's been about 7+ years since it was first screened on TV in the 'Land of the Red Circle, Geishas, Cosplayers, Lesbian Schoolgirls, and Giant Robots/Mobile Suits, etc.) |

One I would consider a must-have acquisition for at least a DVD/Blu-Ray release eventually - or even better, a season at Dendy, is the upcoming live action Space Battleship Yamato premiering in Japan in December. I would imagine a lot of Star Blazers and Yamato fans would be interested in seeing that. The trailers that have popped up on YouTube to date look promising as far as keeping true to the original goes - complete with the original TV series OP! |

Madman announced the licence at Supanova in Brisbane. No word as to what formats (DVD, Blu-Ray, Theatrical) it will be released in. That said, when I bought Big Tits Zombie there, the guy who handled my purchase said they seldom get Blu-Ray with their Eastern Eye licences... hopefully Yamato will be an exception to this. I guess the question is whether this will be released under the Madman or the Eastern Eye label. |

Excellent. Is there still a campaign for Yamato to get a cinema release?
Also, as Jimbo mentioned above, has there been a timeframe established for its release? |

So a while ago I watched most of Tokyo Sonata on SBS.
I thought it was a great film.
I instantly went online to see if there was an Australian release, unfortunately there wasn't.
Finally decided to at least suggest it you you guys, as I'd love to buy this movie in Australia. |
