Even if it was release it, more then likely it would only be an upscale anyways...

but we can always hope they do a complete re-make frame by frame, to make it a HD version Very Happy

Probably never.

The series was shot on 16mm film, which isn't good enough for HD. So if they ever did re-release the series in Blu-ray, it would definitely be an upscale.

My guess is that if it is released as a bli-ray it won't be for another five years at least.

It won't be until the Rebuild hype has died down, when Gainax will need some easy profit.

That would be great! But i think i can do one better. But before that here is a little bit of info:

The TV opening was shot on 35mm film, where as the rest of the show on 16mm. Don't believe me? Compare the visual quality of the opening crsedit with the rest of the show. Notice how much sharper, crispier (is that a word?) it is. Also notice how much the colours are washed out in the show where as in the credits they are fuller and less grainier.

Anyways...... back to what i was saying.

Why don't they get the original cells and instead of filming them on 16mm film them again on 35mm.! And then release them on a HD format.

Film shot on 16mm can greatly benefit from HD. Obviously in won't be as good as if it was shot on 35mm.

Visit DVDbeaver.com and check out its Blu-ray reviews for "GIMME SHELTER (The Criterion Collection)" as well as "MONTERY POP (The Criterion Collection)". You'll be able to see visualy that 16mm film can be improved with a HD transfer

If you still won't believe me then there is no need to get into a great debate wheter 16mm benefits from HD. Let's just say that we'll agree to disagree.

Peace

Norbie

Yup, and I'd pay for a blu-ray with just the opening on it.
C'mon Madman, that shouldn't be too hard...

Maybe they'd do what Toei did to Dragon Ball Z Kai and spend millions on remastering the master, not scan the negatives.

The reason the negatives were used for the remastering of some of the episodes (might have been just one episode) for Platinum was because the masters were lost. Anyway, with the series now kinda jointly owned by both Gainax and Khara, and Hideaki Anno's departure from Gainax, and because the new films are all blu-ray quality, it's unlikely we'll see anything like a FullHD remaster for the next 10 years.
