Razz

Both are pretty great though. I've played a few hours of Recettear and it's such a cute game. It's a little basic though. Still, running an item store is awfully fun. Capitalism, ho!

Chantelise I've only played the demo of. Was quite fun but it's basically just Recettear without the store. A bit more to the combat system though.

I really should get around to playing those sooner or later but I'm more looking forward to Territoire. I'm hoping that's the elusive Project 4 that they're talking about. Smile Fortune Summoners also looks awesome as well so that'll be a near day one buy. Not that I'll probably play it for a while but I'll still give them the money haha.

Star Wars: The Old Republic has already passed the million-man mark, according to a press release issued by EA and BioWare. The companies claim it’s the fastest that any MMO ever reached the number, having soft-launched for early access players on just December 13th.

The “fastest growing” number is based on the game’s official launch on December 20th, which ignores the hundreds of thousands of pre-order players who ensured beta access as much as a week in advance of the street date. Still, 1 million players is a number most new MMOs fail to hit at any point in their growth. To BioWare’s credit, the launch has seen few problems. A few long server queues aside, there have been no major events like downtimes, server crashes, or any of the other issues that once plagued major MMO releases.

http://www.geek.com/articles/games/star-wars-the-old-republic-fastest-in-history-20111224/

I'n not really surprised, many people believe Blizzard stopped seriously supporting WOW long ago to concentrate on 'Titan'. People were expecting 'The Old Republic' to, at the very least, make serious inroads into WOW.

Hype for Titan is extraordinarily high though and most people expect it to blow everyone away when finally released... despite noone knowing anything about the game or if it's even an rpg Confused

Good job Bioware, a pity you concentrated so much on The Old Republic and Mass Effect that you kinda sorta maybe dropped the ball a bit on Dragon Age 2 Sad . Which is important to me because I don'y play online games Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

Quote:
BioWare has also served up some interesting statistics from the last week and a half of play in regards to what their subscriber base has been up to. To date, players have:

· Logged 28 million in-game hours – roughly equivalent to watching all six Star Wars movies, two million times

· Averaged well over five hours a day playing the game

· Created more than 3.8 million characters; 510,000 Jedi Knights and 550,000 Sith Warriors

· Killed more than 2 billion non-player characters in the eight days since Early Game Access began

It'll be free- to-play in six months.

Titan is apparently due for a 2013 release, so expect it to be announced at Blizzcon next year.

Dragon Age 2 would have turned out the same even if Old Republic/Mass Effect were not in development, different teams and all that.

Riiiiight.... I am playing it at the moment and the launch was very smooth, everyone seems to be very positive in-game.
I can't see it going F2P any time soon.

Yeah and the lack of a micro-transaction store is refreshing Smile (though it's possible one will be introduced in the future)

On a down side though the gild management and social tools are non-existent.. Sad

Mass Effect 3 to require Origin, not available on Steam.

In related news, EA just unsold me a copy of Mass Effect 3.

Considering EA has been doing this with the past few AAA titles they've released, I find it strange that gaming sites still need to provide confirmation of the fact.

And if you're going to use the reasoning of "Origin is spyware", have a close look at some of the other EULAs that most folk take for granted (Punkbuster is a hilarious example as it asks you to agree to allow their software to not only scan your running processes and HDD storage, but also to have the authorisation to modify running processes and stored files).

Besides, after three months with devil's footprint running on my pc (no other way to play Cattlefield on its supposedly intended platform) I've got to say that its no more intrusive than Steam was after a couple years of refinement.

My reasoning is that Origin is redundant and has no reason to exist.

Oh, it has a good reason to exist.
Just not one that anyone who doesn't own shares in EA agrees with.

Pretty sure Bioware is doing a good enough job of making me not want the game anyway.

Not that I'm all THAT interested, but just what is it exactly about Origin that is so terrible? I mean, its sort of, kind of, competition for Steam (which I'm not a huge fan of either tbh, but still have no major problem having it installed), in a round about sort of way. Competition is a good thing, isnt it?

I've only got one game on Origin. Burnout Paradise. Which is a terrible game on PC anyway and I'll probably never play again now I have the superior xbox360 version.

I still don't have the Dragon Age games. Didn't EA make those work on Origin only? I do intend playing those eventually and by all reports the PC versions are superior, so I guess I'll have to use my Origin account for those. You know, eventually.

In the perfect world all games would be DRM free anyway. I love my GOG account. Smile

I've got Origin installed on the desktop, and the only game associated with it is the Steam version of Mass Effct 2. I'm looking at getting the Mass Effect DLC available on Origin, but I want to get my Steam ME associated with Origin first.

Remember that when you have to install content delivery platforms for Activision, Ubisoft, Squeenix and every other single publisher out there who decides that they want to make their own Origin.

I'd rather run one content delivery platform on Windows than have to have one running for each individual publisher.

To quote Sir Humphrey, it's the thin end of the wedge.

If they are all as unobtrusive as Origin so far seems to be (which last time I used it was far less obnoxious than Steam) then I won't have a problem running them. At all, in fact.

Of course I'd rather not have to deal with them at all. The Internet is a perfectly adequate "content delivery system" for me.

I chuckled a bit at that. I'm sure that's the idea that the management at EA are going for, but its still got a long way to go before they can even call it "Steam-esque".

Who's getting The Old Republic? Hopefully it's better than what some people are saying. I've been waiting for a game like that to be set in the future. All they need now is a GTA game set in the future. Would be sick.

Getting? The Harbinger server has been filled with aussies since just after it came out Razz

It's basically WoW wearing a Jedi robe. It's a "typical" MMO with a dose of quality Bioware storytelling.

Basically what you'd expect... Tatooine is a desert, Korriban is really orange, etc. Unfortunately the scale is all wacked (like, your characters are 50% the size of how the environment is designed) to allow for the camera to follow or somesuch. Didn't notice it at first but it bugs me now...

actually the graphics are quite low grade.. but I've heard this is due to a bug that prevents the game from displaying anything better than medium level graphics.

aside from that the environments feel a lot like what's in the movies. at least half the architecture has a very 'stone temple' felling to it but walking around the outside arias of planets like Corascent feel very Mega Technological City.. if that helps any. :p

I read on the forums that their fancy DRM involves server side rendering of some of the graphics, which is why even people in America are getting lag, and it also explains why graphics cant be turned all the way up... :\

I think you'll find you're wrong and cloud-based gaming is the future. Just ask Gaikai.

Because there won't be any lag or anything. Because we all have fast internets. Everywhere.

... and you'll never own a thing any more.

The future is a horrid, decrepid place.

I bought mine from Zavvi because I wasn't able to play it over Christmas anyway so the delay didn't bother me. People less patient than I bought it from Amazon for express shipping goodness.

Any games site in the world will sell it to you, since we're the only ones who don't get it yet. The UK, USA etc all have it...

EB Games grey-imported it from North America. But yeah, no official release here yet.

I've had quite a .. a different week. I've found myself doing some stuff I've not done for a very long time. Even decades. This stuff includes, but is not limited to the following.
- Tried to draw and write by holding a pencil with my toes.
- Went and lay in the front yard and stared up at the stars, for hours.
- .. after which I considered, but piked out, of aimlessly just walking around town at around 3am.
- Tried navigating my house with my eyes clamped as tight as I can. Making a cup of coffee like this did not go well.
- Dug through my bookcase to find those Auslan books I've had for about 30 years but never gave them the time I intended. Could not find them, but I spent a fair while on google looking up the same information.
- Despite being able to count the number of times I've actually run anywhere on one hand, I tried to find my treadmill so I could give it a go.
- ..and some other rather interesting and unusual practices that I really have no idea why I've wanted to attempt.

oh, and I also played this free little Visual Novel someone suggested I read, buy some guys called Four Leaf Studios.
Its was ok, I guess.

Spontaneity is a bit weird like that, isn't it? You feel compelled to do those things and can't rest until you carry them out. You do them, enjoy them immensely and vow that you must continue to do these things for the rest of your life.

Then you wake up the next day and put it in the "too hard" pile and don't do any of it until the next bout of spontaneity. Razz

I'm sort of interested in it, I guess. I've never really played an ero visual novel before. I'm interested in the premise and how the game is supposed to handle the issues as in a reasonably accurate and empathetic manner.

But then I remember who made it and where they came from and then the premise seems so different. Sad

If you go into it knowing that Manly Picnic is the only true ending, its not that bad.

@ CG: read my post again after you play the game and it will make more sense. It was more a post aimed at those who had already played. Smile

Oh god. My Sides. MY SIDES!
Despite the fact I think it very well may be undeniable proof that I am dead inside, Kenji was with out a doubt my favourite part of the game. I cried more from gaffawing during.. pretty much anything Kenji Related than any of the actual feels parts. Seriously I think I've got a shadow of some Ab definition going on here just from laughing so much. Unquestionably one of the most hilarious things Ive read in bloody donkey's.

Of course a lot of that might be due to the pretty stark contrast to the rest of the game, because other than Emi (who had some scenes that were so funny I may have peed a little), the other stories tried to be pretty full on stuff. That's what comic relief is all about, after all.

So, Good Old Games is no longer going to be Good Old Games. Instead, they're going to do both old games as well as release new games digitally and DRM-Free as well. This is good news I think.

Gamers are mental though. I've seen more than my fair share of "they've sold out" comments. Confused
