TAKE MY MONEY! NOW! *Throws money at Madman and then begins to shoot money out of cannons*... though if I had that much I'd be able to buy the older release
I had the funniest feeling that'd happen this month though. No idea why. but so goddamn happy.
My MSN chat melted into a slur of capital letter keyboard mashing of excitement and believe me I am resisting doing it now.
egbrfvckjgfn adfzkjvnakrejhnfgoiv;renligvnfdkjvc nxgfknrlvnfdkdmlsjfiklsjhrlkdmvjlfcx;,dcjgkcxdmkvjdlsmxnfjkdlxmciurehgfrweoihtgfociarejdnflcjarensdflkjcnrekjtgreoighsekjrnvclkjngr
Will get this, but will still try for the Pioneer release too. Especially if this is the remaster.
Also are the movies in the licence or are they dependant on the series or something? Or just not at all, I am happy with any of the three. I love CCS
EDIT: Though I hope we get more than 4 discs per set if it's two sets. |

WANT.
Very much want.
I do feel sorry for anyone who recently bought an American DVD set on ebay.
Will definitely be getting this (already been getting the manga omnibus, though volumes two and three are still on my manga backlog). |

Good to see the uncut version of Cardcaptor Sakura licensed. Could this be one of the NTSC titles that Madman were planning? since it is a subtitled only release. |

Did not see this coming at all.
Will eventually get MM's release as well even though I have the Pioneer single DVDs. Would make for easier viewing seeing as I wouldn't have to dig to get to one and the Pioneer volumes aren't numbered >=|

Well the movies are available in dual audio, or at least they were released as such in special editions. Not sure if there is any difference between the english dub only and the dual audio version. Haven't watched mine yet :p
madchild wrote: | Though I hope we get more than 4 discs per set if it's two sets. |
It has 70 episodes and even at 6 episodes a disc, it'll still put you at just over 11 discs, so it can be done over 12 discs or it can be done with 5 eps a disc and give you 7 discs per set.
The pioneer had 4 per disc which gave it 18 discs _________________ I am a 100% Belldandy fan and Ah! My Goddess Obsessor! |

Theoretically speaking, what's the most amount of episodes MMs managed to squeeze into a single DVD?
7 One Piece episodes managed to fit into one disc.. and CCS has 70 episodes, so it would roughly fit about 10 discs, which means they'd be releasing it as 2 slimpacks, or unless MM might do 5 episodes a disc where we'd get 14 discs over 2 fatpacks..
I wonder what the end result would be like.. |

You can comfortably get 6 episodes per dual layer disc without changing much in quality plus enough for a few trailers and whatnot.
I honestly wouldn't go any higher than that though. _________________ I am a 100% Belldandy fan and Ah! My Goddess Obsessor! |

I don't mind either way, but having slimpacks would save space on my shelf. |

I'd expect 6/6/6/6/6/5 sets; a total of 12 discs (two slimpacks). Being only one audio track would mean there's a little bit more room than if it was dual language. NTSC video would also reduce the footprint on the disc as well.
One Transformers G1 set, there were 8 episodes per disc, although that was one language and no subtitles. _________________ Nullus Anxietas |

I am excited about this release, been waiting for a very long time. Am also hoping that madman will re-release the dub since I want the dub on dvd as well, but want the subbed version more. My sister and I where talking about this last weekend about how much longer it would be before madman released the sub on DVD. |

I highly doubt madman would do a sub only BD when it's already very expensive to master BDs in the first place.
So yeah, I can almost promise you they probably won't be doing a BD |

The first movie was released in America as the Cardcaptors movie so had the same VA cast (and name changes) as the series. While the script was edited (the relationship between Clow and the woman was changed IIRC) it was at least completely uncut allowing for a separate hybrid release with "proper" subtitles.
The second movie came out much later, dual audio with a completely new cast and a "proper" translation. |

For some reason when I saw the thread's title at 1am, it read: "Holy **** Madman licensed Sailor Moon". It took me several posts to realise everyone was actually talking about CCS
This is pretty cool though, I haven't seen CCS since it was on Cheez TV with what I assume was the dub people seem to hate, not that I gave a crap when I was 10 years old. _________________ Visit my Youtube channel for a spot of music. |

Indeed!
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com.au/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=2026
The translation on the dub for the second movie is pretty decent. They even translated Sakura's "ho-e's" (i.e. Sakura still says it in the English dub). The names and pronunciations are all accurate too (i.e. sa-ku-lra instead of sa-koor-rah. Miss Daidoji instead of Madison or what ever her name was). Kari Walgren does an excellent job as Sakura and Wendee Lee is hilarious as Kero-chan. The others are pretty good too.
I snapped up both of the movies off eBay for cheap a few years ago, figuring they where Hong Kong knock offs that could go with my Malaysian knock off of the series (beggars can't be choosers right), but they turned out to be genuine as far as I could tell... AU$30.00 for the pair was a real bargain.
I'd really love to see a faithful bi-lingual release of CCS one day, but it doesn't look like it's ever going to happen -doubly so, if Madman is resorting to releasing it subtitles only. Spose there's no point in hoping for another Madman/Manga UK collaboration on dub work (like GITS2 Innocence) is there?
I'll certainly get these sets, if nothing else so I can toss my Malaysian discs and have all of CCS sitting proud on my shelf (instead of on a disc spool, hidden (shamefully) in a draw with the rest of my dodgy SE Asian knock off anime DVDs).
Now if madman would get a hold of Macross: Do You Remember Love it would really make my year (wishful thinking, but does Harmony Gold have any say on who sells what in Australia?) |

A Cardcaptor Sakura DVD release using the remaster from the Japanese BDs is like a dream come true for me. Thank you so much for giving this classic shoujo series a long overdue return to the spotlight, Madman ent.!
While it is probably rather unlikely, i really hope this release does well enough to make a Blu-ray release a possibility down the road. At the very least i'm confident that there will be a non-neglegable number of english speaking fans like myself going out of their way to import this from australia. |

To be honest, I'd prefer same-day release of Blu-ray, or not at all. Otherwise it feels like the customer is being cheated, and I'm sure Madman wouldn't want that. And anyway, wouldn't doing an unannounced staggered release reduce the number of Blu-ray versions sold? _________________ Nullus Anxietas |

Not a great deal, no. The costs would be way to high to consider for such a long series without US money. Manga's only recent dubs are for Musashi, which was basically just a voiceover so cheap to do locally, and Welcome to the Space Show, which was at least partially funded by Aniplex who are intending to sell it on with the license in other regions like the US. |

Now Collection 1 isn't on the cards until September.
I can put up with the wait, after all; I've already waited several years already to watch this series.
I'm more interested in finding out what the price tag on each collection is going to be? _________________ I have too much anime, yet it's not enough. Anime Addict, if it were a drug; I'd be dead. |

Cardcaptors was likely shot onto film. Having it scanned and restored in an HD resolution will give it a far sharper and cleaner look on modern displays.
Sure playing the DVD and up scaling it likely won't look that bad, considering animation tends to look decent enough thanks to having not as much detail as a live action source. But it will look nicer with a blu ray treatment.
For an approximation on differences you could look at the DBZ blus and get an rough idea on how much better it can look. Although those were taken from multigenerational masters that funimation had and not from the pristine masters in Japan. The cardcaptors source would of come from the masters and been restored presumably quite well. |
