I was showing a friend Laputa, Castle in the Sky, which I bought ages ago but hadn't watched in the Madman dvd form yet.
It appears that there is something strange with the sound - the Japanese soundtrack (2.0) seems to have the sound effects and some of the primary dialogue but a lot of the secondary characters have no voices. The subtitles show what they are saying, the visuals show them speaking, but no voice sound.
The voices are there in the english dubbed soundtrack.
Is this a known problem? Was it a mastering issue with early copies of the Madman Laputa dvds? It's been a long time since I watched it (on various fan subbed VHS tapes) but I seem to remember there being proper dialogue there.
None of the other Ghibli Madman DVDs I have have any sound issues like this (and I think I have most / all of them).
