So, one of the E3 game previews is for a new Splinter Cell game that doesn't appear to have Michael Ironside voicing Sam Fisher. How can they call the character Sam Fisher if Michael Ironside isn't voicing him? He pretty much makes the role.

IGN wrote:
If you're sensitive to Sam Fisher's sultry voice, you probably noticed a distinct lack of sexy in the Splinter Cell Blacklist gameplay demo. Ubisoft has confirmed to IGN that Michael Ironside, the voice of Sam Fisher for the past 10 years, won't be back for Blacklist.

The reason? With Blacklist's focus on agile forward-movement, Ubisoft needed an actor capable of motion capture and performance. Consequently, the 62-year-old Ironside is out, and 32-year-old Eric Johnson, known for his role as Whitney Fordman on Smallville, is the new Sam Fisher.

Hopefully he's more likeable as Sam Fisher because Whitney was a douche bag. Razz

Translation: They couldn't afford Ironside so they got someone cheaper.

Project Fedora has reached its funding goal, with eight days to go.

SpaceVenture looks like it's in trouble, though. It needs almost $120,000 in four days.

I find it funny how they use the excuse of needing an actor capable of agile movement for mo-cap, when the first few games were all hand animated because no known human was capable of the movement they wanted for Sam Fisher.

Ouch, especially since the Leisure Suit Larry remake kickstarter succeeded on the same amount.

I'd kick in for the Two Guys but I only found out about it a few days ago and I'm kinda strapped til payday (which is 7 days away).

You have a week to pay, once the drive is successful.

Kickstarter help page wrote:
A project I'm backing just succeeded and my credit card was declined. What do I do?

If your pledge was declined just login to Kickstarter and click the ďAction NeededĒ system message on the top of your screen. It will redirect you to Amazon, where you can change your payment method. Alternately, we'll send you an email every 48 hours with a direct link to correct the issue. Don't delay, however: backers have seven days to correct payment issues before they are dropped from the project (and therefore no longer eligible to receive rewards).

No, but the Harley Quinn's Revenge DLC's just hit. It's definitely on Steam and PSN, but I can't speak for XBLA.

There hasn't been any word on a third Arkham game but it would be surprising if there wasn't one, considering the huge success of the first two.

As the ending credits were rolling for Arkham City, I was half expecting a pre-recorded message to go out over Gotham, having Strange inform everyone listening that Batman is Bruce Wayne. A little insurance in the event of his death. On the one hand it might have been cool, but on the other, it would be a cliff-hanger ending and those always piss me off. That being said, City was pretty inferior to Asylum, so Iím not overly interested in the franchise anymore, anyway.

I found City to be really overrated until... about three quarters of the way through the game where suddenly it clicked and became an exciting, dramatic and interesting game I couldn't get enough of.

Since when has the person doing the motion capture and the voice had to be the same person?

One advantage Asylum had is the lack of expectation going (I'm sure people hoped it would be good, but I doubt expectations were that high). City is a great game but it also had a lot to live up to. I think I liked Asylum more - maybe for the aforementioned reason, or maybe because the side missions, while fun enough, were a distraction that hurt the momentum of the main plot.

Mr Waffle wrote:

It's becoming increasingly common as far as I can tell. I think developers believe it makes for a more authentic overall performance. I don't necessarily disagree but surely a decent actor can suitably fake the "grunting".

Michael Ironside doesn't grunt.

He kills the air with his displeasure at necessary exertion.

So apparently there's a game called Crimson Dragon.

It's something of a spiritual successor to Panzer Dragoon. EXCITE++

It's Kinect-only.

Last I heard there were going to be pad controls in the vein of Child of Eden.

Been following CD for a while now. Has me very excited. I replayed Panzer Saga a year or two back and still found it to be a low-res but overall religious experience.

CD would complement the delightful Virtua Fighter 5 FS release on PSN/XBLA last weekend. Downloaded the vanilla version (AU$19.99, 2gb), didn't feel like ponying up for all the extras as I probably wouldn't use them and I was being cheap Razz

Haven't played it yet, but it's sitting on my HDD waiting. The PS3 took forever to finish the download queue, but that's my fault - downloaded lots of E3 stuff.

@Batman talk: Hopefully Rocksteady have the cash in hand to move a sequel to UE4. That would be all sorts of incredible. It will be a magic HD world where we have anti-aliasing and less-frequent screen tearing games.

Oh, and this generation can finally start winding up. I want true HD resolutions, no screen tearing and nicer jaggy-removal.

Not that anyone's in a rush - can't see how MS or Sony could at all be concerned with Nintendo's great big box of air they showed off at E3.

While I certainly wouldn't say no to even better-looking games, I'm perfectly happy with what modern PS3 games look like (the new Tomb Raider looks gorgeous). Granted, I haven't seen their PC counterparts running on a high-end machine to make me jealous, but still.

I finished Mass Efect 3 last night. Overall I enjoyed the series, the only letdowns are that:

1. ME3's best ending isn't available solely through the single player game. You need to play multiplayer or use the iOS apps to increase your effecticve readiness.

2. The various endings are all rather samey. Now I don't mind not having a perfect, everyone-lives-happily-ever-after sunshine and rainbows ending. But all the endings do effectively the same thing. I'd have preferred various levels of success, depending on choices throughout the series, but always with a cost.

Now to remember what I'd planned to play after the ME series.

It's lame indeed, but the difference is so tiny, a simple text description is all you need.

Considering what they (organics) were up against, I don't think a "sunshine and rainbows" ending was ever a reality. The best they could hope for would be avoiding annihilation with only moderate losses.

I also would've liked to see a range of outcomes from "Reapers win" (they wipe out all organics once again) to "organic life decimated" (Reapers are destroyed but so is almost all organic life) to "organics win" (the aforementioned defeat of the Repears with "only" moderate loss of organic life).

I love Suda-51. That is all.

Are you reviewing it for RC?

Oh, and in gaming news, I picked up VF5:FS last week and bought Alex Kidd in Miracle World, both on PS3. M2 have set the new standard for standards of emulation on HD consoles, and all future emulated titles should use them. Alex Kidd is unbelievably well emulated on the PS3. I got lots of trophies on my first playthrough, but I don't know if I have the skills to finish the damn game. Will keep on trying Smile

VF5:FS is awesome though - we bought VF5 when we picked up our PS3 back 2007 and I haven't played it in a couple of years, but it was great giving it another shot and the online play was surprisingly very well implemented given I was playing internationally on my crap ADSL connection using the PS3's rubbish wifi adapter.

Two thumbs-up and one (big) toe-up is my recommendation. I'm certain you were all looking forward to it, so there it is.

Ah, this take me back. From the cheat to get an extra continue to the hidden path accessed by killing an octopus. The later rock-paper-scissors confrontations were pretty hard when the computer would change at the last split second. I also remember the evil forest of spikes that was damn-near impossible (for me anyway) without the motorbike. It's been ages (as in 20-ish years) but I think the furthest I ever got was some kind of castle that might have had some kind of flooding or something.

Been playing a lot of Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike online with Supercade recently. So addictive. Easily the best SF title, followed by SSF2T HD Remix and SSF4: Arcade Edition.

Alex FTW.

I love alex the kidd in Miracle World but never completed it.

Finished the main story line for Fable 3, have a few of the smaller quests to finish off and then thats pretty much it for the game, might do a second play through and be evil instead of good.

I really wish games used this style box art these days. They're more memorable. I can barely recall any box arts for recent games just because they're all melding together or are just boring.

This thread is amazing Very Happy Thanks Kero Smile

Oh, and last night I finished Alex Kidd for the first time ever Smile I remembered getting all the way to the final castle before, but I don't think I ever defeated Janken the Great. All that's left on the trophy list is to get to the castle with only 400 moneys or something and I'll have 100%'d it Smile

I hope they bring out a Shinobi set or something on PSN with Alex Kidd in Shinobi World, Shinobi 3, original System 16 Shinobi and Revenge of Shinobi (although I think that one's already available...).

@Stormo: Finished up that review yet?

I finished Blur this afternoon.

Despite being very, very easy, it was actually pretty fun.

If it's cheap during the Steam Sales, I highly recommend it. An enjoyable way to spend 10 hours. 7/10.

Nah just the type of guy who doesn't flip out about the name of a classic video game.
