Avatar? Go to your profile (the word "Profile up under the Madman logo at the top of the page). At the bottom, you can put in the URL of your avatar of choice, or choose one from Madman's avatar gallery.

NOTE - it would help if you host the image yourself (on a free hosting site, such as Photobucket), rather than linking to someone else's image, as it's considered rude to steal their bandwith.

Try the full url. Make sure there are no URL or forum tags (ie. [ url ] and [ /url ] or < url > and </url >)

You are entering the actual image address, not the page address? That is, it ends with an image file extension?

Rental Magica is sub only.

As for titles, then Yu Yu Hakusho is one to recomend. Black Cat is another one.

No offense but that's really stupid mentality.
I'm pretty sure I am younger than you and I don't necessarily like older shows (which are older to me than they are to you due to my younger age, hence me bringing it up), but if a show happens to be old I won't drop it instantly. I don't dislike older shows because they are older, I dislike particular older shows because I simply don't like the show.
Utena or Cutie Honey are my examples.

Also.
Black Cat is 2006 so look into a series before insta-dropping it.
It's newer than Naruto, Bleach and is the same age as D.Gray-man. Grow up.

I used to watch naruto and bleach when I was
Younger so I got used to it, but if I was to start watching an
Older show now that I'm older I'll just lose interest.
And I'm only 17 . Razz

Some of the all time top anime titles are those set in the 80's and 90's.

*sigh*

Okay.
But if you are implying 2006 is "old" and therefore won't watch Black Cat (which fits in with your other shows perfectly I might add) then I really do facepalm.
2006 is not old.
I can accept you thinking maybe 2004 and before is old I guess but '06 is not old in the slightest.

And there are some older shows that morphed and created the very genres we have today so I reckon there are a few you should give a chance at the least.

Do you use this selection process on Live Action films and TV too?

EDIT: Also; Yep I'm younger Razz

So then, doing by the logic you have stated, then you just want new released anime?

I was going to suggest Trinity Blood, but it might be to old for you to watch too.

Small info here - I'm older than you, have 2 kids that are younger than you that are into anime and they don't whine about old anime. They actually prefer them.

Mayhap you should have been more exact in your opening post?

Sorry but in anime; 6-years is old. Do you realize how many new shows come out in Japan every season, every year?

EDIT: deleting post.

Re-reading it, while it made perfect sense to me, most other people would think I'm both extremely tired, and lobotomised through means of spork.

Yet I was glad to watch Card Captor Sakura at AVCON because it broke new ground that other anime followed in.

I didn't see "Panda ko Panda" or "Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro" until recently, but having seen Miyazaki's Studio Ghibli works, it was great to see what he had created earlier.

Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood.

The original Full Metal Alchemist is also excellent but might be too old for your tastes, 2003 and all.

I'm sorry but this is a terrible argument. More shows are released every year in America than anime in Japan yet the NCIS series is still considered a recent series even though the first season was made in 2003, Monk is still considered a recent series, The Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter are considered recent films yet are a decade old. Anime that are 6 years old are considered recent anime, not new enough to be new but not nearly old enough to be considered old. The art style may be 'dated' but that's a different argument entirely and isn't entirely dependant upon the year it was made.

Anime is still mostly the same as 10 years or so ago. True, you now get blu-ray and more cg'd anime, but you still get roughly the same good and crap anime.

I only have to look at Gundam 00 - Awakening of the Trailblazer movie to see what is flashy, but ultimately totally crap. That was only released last year.

EVA came out in 91' if I remember correcly and that's still one of most recognisable anime out there, esp with the new release.

'95 Wink once again, recognizable =/= new. Just because something is good doesn't mean it's new. Lord of The Rings aren't new movies, by anybody's standards. The rate technology and CG moves these days things tend to date quite quickly, I was having this conversation with a friend in a similar vein to this last night and we were refering to The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (2006) as old (it's still a fantastic show), and when you watch as much anime as I do, 6-years ago is a bloody long time ago.

By excluding any anime pre 2006 you are exluding a large number of anime. to give an idea of my anime collection this is the listing by year. (numbers are discs and year is the year released of the title NOT the year it aired, as the likes of Gunbuster was released on DVD many years after its release)

1998 - 6
1999 - 11
2000 - 34
2001 - 86
2002 - 139
2003 - 329
2004 - 275
2005 - 312
2006 - 383
2007 - 387
2008 - 389
2009 - 224
2010 - 275
2011 - 302
2012 - 163

I'm not excluding or detracting from the value of a series based on it's age. I'm just saying in a market with this level of content saturation, things really date quite quickly.

But that's not really the case esp when you consider how few companies are actually releasing anime in the US. CPM, Manga US, Geneon, Animeigo and Bandai Ent are gone all but in name. ADV is gone though it's been somewhat resurrected as Sentai and even they are a bit more circumspect in whether a title will be dubbed or not. Rightstuf is doing sub only titles and not many at that and Viz is only concentrating on a few titles like Bleach and Naruto. Media Blasters are an iffy with their releases and Funimation is the only major supplier of anime since ADV's fall. There's a couple of minor companies that are concentrating on retro titles, but that's about it.

For you to actually get some decent titles, you have to go back to when these companies existed. Otherwise, you have to hope that they'll get licensed rescued.

Ghost in the Shell - Stand Alone Complex came out in Japan in 2002/2003, 2nd Gig in 2004-05 and Solid State Society in 06.

i too "thought" i would disliked old anime when i first got into it, but now that ive actually watch a lot of old series (1990's - 2004) i really enjoy them. Like one i watched recently, Ghost in a Shell, that was awesome. Just give a few older series a try.

Try looking into the following anime:

Freezing
This boy can fight aliens
Blade of the immortal

Personally I think it's ridiculous being biased against certain types of anime or manga before even having a look at them. You say that you don't like watching old shows and yet post Naruto as one of your favourites, which was first shown on TV in 2002.
