It had been a while since I last watched Evangelion 2.22, so I decided to pop in my Blu-Ray copy of the film and have a watch. Whilst taking a gander at the menu, I noticed pretty weird titles in the Scene Selection sub-menu:

They don't look to be deliberate. It's almost like they're the in-production file names (before final authoring), rather than the correctly re-named scenes. Most scenes are exactly like this, and usually are just a jumble or letters and numbers. The above image was the most amusing.

I noticed a topic like this previously, but for Evangelion 1.11. The thread is now locked though, with the only response being 'I haven't watched it on Blu-Ray, but it's probably deliberate.' I somehow get the feeling it's not.

These are correct. If you look at the soundtrack listing as well it is exactly the same.

Yes, but these are scenes, not songs. :/

What if the songs were named after the scenes?

Well, as in the OP, not every scene follows the same naming structure. Sure, this has '2EM30', but even on the soundtrack there is no '2EM30'.

I don't really see the point in continuing this since we've already been told it's deliberate. But if you're still hung up about it I can check my US Funimation release when I get home this evening to see if it's the same?

Well, we've been told it's deliberate and the evidence is apparently the Japanese OST. I can see how that works with some scenes, but others don't make a lick of sense. Seems like the worst choice of scene titling on a set (Eva 1.0 and 2.0) of releases ever.

I am interested to see if the FUNi release is the same though. Not totally hung up on up - it's just a super odd (like someone along the line stuffed up, but played it off).

My original theory was that the scenes were named by the song that plays in them during the preliminary stages, however the titles are set out like file names rather than track titles.

The disc is authored by Funimation so it's the same. You'll find it's also the same on the Japanese releases.
