Like, Eureka Seven isn't happy enough for him. Ideally a mecha show with romance and comedy.

All I can think of that ticks those boxes is Shingu.

Bokurano *shifty eyes*

Is he only after mecha?
The closest to mecha that springs to mind with a somewhat happy ending despite what it appears to be for the first 23 episodes until #resetbutton is My-HiME.

Although AKB0048 is also considered mecha (with decent reasoning)
while it has it's considerably darker moments it has a pretty happy ending on both seasons though I doubt that'd be up his alley due to quite a bit of J-pop insert songs(?)

I'm not much of a mech fan, so there's only a few that come to mind. The first thing I thought of is Super Dimensional Cavalry Southern Cross. I don't know offhand which Robotech arc it was Westernised as, though. Probably not the first, seeing as it's not on Earth. Depending on how they adapted it, it may fit the bill.

I just thought of Idolm@ster: Xenoglossia. I haven't watched it through yet, but being Isolm@ster, I fail to see it having anything but a happy ending.

Depending on your definition of "happy", Martian Successor Nadesico.

Second Arc. Robotech Masters.

Vandread perhaps if you're only looking into mecha anime.

Both seasons of Full Metal Panic (not counting Fumoffu) end on generally upbeat notes, though the path there can be a bit rough.

Here's some anime I've found to have happy endings.

Martian Successor Nedesico
Galaxy Angel Z (recommend watching the whole series)
Patlabor
Visions of Escaflowne
Armatige Ova series (although not mecha, it's still good to watch and has a good ending)
Irresponsible Captain Tylor

I forgot to mention Outlaw Star which has mecha fighting spaceships called Grapplers. It also has a good ending and should be considered by your boss.

Dont buy Idolm@ster: Xenoglossia.........complete waste of time to be honest given that the series could have been done in 13 episodes if it had better script writers Razz. Also it pretty much revoles around the female cast coming to terms with their boyfriends being mecha Razz Also I would not call it a complete happy ending either.

As it happens he's watching And Yet The Town Moves.

Maids, mecha... all good, right?
