Correction, it ends on Thursday and restarts Friday. TVFIX (formerly YourTV) gives Friday's episode title as the first of the classic series, so yeah, restarting.

From looking at the Tv guide it seems Naruto will be on ABC3 next week from Friday onwards at 8:40pm.
Starting from the very first episode.

I used to complain about how we didn't have a Toonami equivalent. But to be perfectly honest, I'd take Madoka and K-ON over a bunch of battle shonens any day of the week. Me and many, many others already had our chance to watch DBZ and GT on Cheez TV in our Primary School years. It was great, but I think it's best that we move on from stuff like that if we want to attract a wider audience. And by 'move on', I don't just mean showing them action centric anime with more violence like Akame ga Kill or Deadman Wonderland instead.

Even though I loved all the popular kid's stuff when I was younger I had no interest in Naruto and Bleach when they rolled around. What got me interested in anime was discovering K-ON and by extension the entire slice of life genre. It actually dispelled a lot of the misconceptions I had about anime that prevented me from watching anything beyond DBZ and the like.

So yeah, I'm really happy with Madman at the moment.

tl;dr: Fun things are fun, battle shonens are so 2003 and being able to watch K-ON on national television rocks.

Woah Woah WOAH did you just DISOWN half of anime out there and miss the whole point of what anime is in general.
Also Each to HIS OR HER OWN...but don't go around DISOWNING certain genres because of your tastes.

Anime Originally and STILL IS suppose to be classed as cartoons for adults. But you sound like your want to downgrading anime's category as cartoons for kids and not anime is for adults.

I wouldn't call K-ON traditional anime...I mean its anime but it's not the traditional stuff where you get adult's only type stuff...but it seems more aimed at a particular audience.
But also not all fighting anime is for boys as there are some made equal such as Attack on Titan which has good equal male and female characters...but then who doesn't like action.

But I really don't see why anime should go into the singing rock star genres...they don't seem like true anime(in terms of the hardcore stuff)

I might not like K-ON or Ouran high school host club as those titles do NOT interest me.
But at least I don't go around disowning a certain genre and then complaining about it because its aimed for girls only.
If its not my type of anime then I won't watch it...but I tend to be a mixture of action/adventure/supernatural/sci-fi anime which is a whole heap of anime these days it just depends on story not genre.

DBZ, Naruto and even Bleach are popular anime but there is no rule saying YOU have to watch them.
But also you can't just go around complaining about something that's not your taste.

There is lots of anime titles that too similar to school uniform genres that even I find is getting a bit too old and similar to each other anime.

But sometimes we do get amazing new concepts like Attack on Titan which is about man eating giants.
Even though giants aren't a new concept, since giants have been around in story's such a jack and the beanstalk.

But Attack on titan makes giants look like starving crazed monsters.
Human then barricading themselves in high walls just to survive.
But also the titans themselves are a complete mystery...which is not a bad concept than.

DBZ, Naruto, Bleach, Berserk, Claymore are quite good fighting genre that all come up with interesting concepts of their own.
It maybe just fighting genre to YOU, but the concept behind the characters and story do interest me.

Concept such as:
Goldern hair Saiyans of DBZ
Chakra spell casting Ninja in Naruto
'I see dead people and evil spirits' Bleach.
But even these above series have heaps of character to explore their own backgrounds which keeps the story's going on.

Though Berserk and Claymore are more medieval fantasy horror genre and do have fighting in it, but it's 'Fight to survive' genre like Attack on titan'.
Mature anime that isn't for Kids is something I find refreshing. I mean anime suppose to be for ALL ages including adults, but once anime was know as: Anime = cartoons for adults.
SO when did anime get downgraded as only for kids?

Just like Sheldon on Big Bang Theory anime reply to Penny's comment about anime.
Penny: Why are you watching cartoons?
Sheldon: This isn't cartoons its anime.

REAL anime was what we USE to have back in the 80's
The 80's were good with Voltron, Battle of the planets and Ulysses 31, Space Battle ship Yamato, Teknoman Blade...the list goes on.
But were use to get super violent gore anime like Ninja Scroll were we get blood that gushes from victim after getting cut with a sword.
Now this is the type of anime I'm missing these days.
So what happed to all the ultra violent anime we use to have?

SO far the only ultra violent ones are Berserk, Elfen Lied, Blood, Afro Samurai, Is this a Zombie of the dead and sorry to say another school uniform genre such as High school of the dead...but it still fits the horror genre category though.
But we seem to have kiddy sized down in terms of anime these days.
But then again we get panty flashing anime genres to which every feminist would probably hate to the core due to thinking its only aimed for young men and that woman unrealistic and are sexualized...but that's another story I'm not going to go into.

List of best adult anime ...I don't mean H-titles.
Here is a list of popular ones though:

Your entire rant has literally nothing to do with the point I was trying to make. You seem to be under the assumption that I have an inherent dislike of actiony stuff but that's just not true. What I am annoyed about is why they're basically the only shows that get any sort of real exposure. Showing people action packed shows is not a fool proof method of getting them into anime.

Everyone has different tastes and I believe there's something for everyone in anime. But the reason most people don't realise this is because we're not doing a very good job of communicating it. My image of anime before I got into it was 80% battle shonen with the remaining 20% being a mix of Ghibli, porn, borderline porn and boring gore fests. As for K-ON (the show that got me into anime)? Never heard of it! Or anything like it for that matter. There are a whole bunch of anime which I could see becoming a hit with certain audiences if they were given the right amount of exposure. But instead it's being given to shows that don't really need it.

For a company who just wants to be on the safe side and guarantee some amount of profit I can see the benefits of sticking with shows like DBZ and Naruto which already have established fanbases. But if your aim is to attract a completely new audience of people who don't watch anime you can't just show them the exact same stuff and expect them to like it.

Which is why I'm glad they're trying something new with Madoka and K-ON.

No offense SquadmemberRitsu but it's jus the way you said it that it sounded like you hated half anime that is generally out there and sounded sexist aswell...and I will explain.

Puella magi Madoka magica and K-ON have no male characters which I generally find a little weird that shows like these ditch the entire half of the human race.

But Puella magi Madoko magica is an interesting unique concept that I do like and I do find it is different from other anime out there.
For example is the Magica girls in the story is where all the girls fight for their humanity or else turning into evil witches...which is an interesting concept...but it's still an all-girl anime show with no males seen in sight.

But then again when you look anime like these such as Madoka and K-ON you think it's only aimed for girls because of an all girl cast on the cover.
But with saying goes "Don't judge a book by its cover" and yes you can be easily put off by its cover as an all girl anime story and think its an anime only for girls...well generally it is...but who's to say boy's can't watch it also.

Also there seems to be a lot of Ecchi based anime too which I find they all generally all seem the same.
example in typical Ecchi anime is that you have 5 to 6 buxom girls and 1 guy out of all the characters. example High School DxD.
An as usual that 1 guy trying to romance the girls or the girls are trying to romance the guy or which ever the case is.
But sure Ecchi anime like these are funny and a little bit unrealistic in today's world of feminist beliefs of true romance.
But hey you can say the Japanese sure do come up with some crazy ecchi concepts of rom-coms. LOL

But the anime that interest me are the most are ones that have original concepts and try to be different from all other genres and concepts and try to keep an equal of male and female cast members.

I also mean why is their still anime aimed for different genders such boys only - shonen and girls only - shoujo anime.
I mean I did collection Shonen Jump magazine years ago and yes it had manga aimed for boys but who's to say the magazine is just for boys.
Sure it had lots of fighting/fantasy type manga but also there was no reason for a girl to pick up the magazine and read it too.

Also there is no reason to stop me from watching Madoka even if it suppose to aimed for girls...but after watching it you notice their is 'next to no' male characters in the entire story, which I find quite funny that it has been made that way.

Another funny story similar but related story I've heard is that a black person commented on and said "There is NO black people in the Jetsons." Funny but true and thinking its racist that only white people live in the future world of the Jetsons.

But in my point where I'm getting at you get all girl cast and then maybe you only get like 1 boy character in the entire story.
But yeah its funny you can say the same thing about the movie The Expendables where you only get like 1 or maybe 2 female cast members in the entire film and then calling it a boys movie. LOL

But I do find either an all girl or even an all boy anime and not combining both genders throughout the entire anime a little off putting sometimes.
I mean we are all trying to live in a feminist world but we must not forget that we have to include both genders and not just one gender.

But complaining there's no males in Madoka is like complaining there's no black people in the Jetsons...you see what I'm getting at...its funny by also very strangely sexist or even racist when you notice these things.

But also back to the topic I've noticed Attack on Titan is back on but it's just repeats.
But I already have seen it and own it on blu ray.
But Attack on Titan is an anime with equal number in genders which is quite refreshing.
But AoT does seem like a military anime genre though to which there's even quite a few military anime genres out there.

Okay, I'm going stop you right there.

I'm talking about how different people have different tastes and I'm glad that's finally being acknowledged. You're just pulling assumptions about me out of thin air (A large majority of them totally incorrect) and going off on a weird tangent about something completely unrelated.

I get it. You don't like K-ON and you think that new anime sucks. You've got opinions and you're entitled to voice them. But this is not the right time or place to do so. All you're achieving is dragging the discussion further and further away from the actual topic.

Mysterious cities of Gold is on SBS 2 on the Weekends.
Starts at 1pm and is a double half hour episode.

But I can sure say OMG I was a kid when I first saw this back in the 80's...sure is a blast from the past.

But watching it now is bit strange now that I'm older as you tend to grow out of these old shows.
But not bad to watch if you just want to refresh your memory.

@SquadmemberRitsu I didn't say I hated new anime...I just said a lot of anime concepts are being repeated more than once eg. like non-anime where you get rom-coms or teen movies they're generally the same in certain ways and anime too can also be same...well nuff said.
But I still check out the new stuff and even anime put on free to air

Did Mysterious Cities of Gold used to be on ABC? In the mid 90s? Looks familiar but not sure if I ever watched it.

Saw that K-On was on ABC3 the other day. Seems like a good pick for TV. I find K-On boring watching to many episodes in one go so would probably handle it better at the pace it airs on TV. I still haven't finished season 2 for that reason.

Below are a few madman titles I think would do well on TV (Though not sure if they hold the licenses for everything listed anymore)
ABC3 - Angelic Layer (or anything CLAMP in general), Blue Excorcist, Steins Gate, Haruhi Suzumiya, School Rumble
SBS - Black Lagoon, Noein to your other self

Originally, the late 80s. They repeated it a few times round then, though I don't recall it being broadcast in the 90s. NITV has been broadcasting it free-to-air this year at 5:30pm weekdays, so it's not much stretch to SBS2 also broadcasting at lunchtime weekends.

I just wish someone would broadcast the recent season 2, though I hear the English voices are worse this time round.

Yeah I kinda remember it was on ABC back in the late 80's.
I kinda remember it when watching back to back with episodes of Monkey and Doctor Who on ABC.
It was a long time ago so I can't fully remember the details of the time slot it was on.

But I do know the story a bit which is the main kid is trying to find his father and also the lost cities of gold and El Dorado.

The only problem I did find with this series was I found the series was a tad a bit too long for children or dragged out too much.
I mean I saw this when I was a kid and so it seemed like forever until they found El Dorado.
It's 39 episodes, but 39 episodes to a kid does seem quite big.

Funny no one has mentioned we have back to back episodes of Space Dandy and Assassination Classroom. on Saturday and Sunday nights on SBS2.

It started last on Saturday night and followed again on Sunday.

Usually the episodes are on really late around before and after midnight.
Well they showed around 4 episodes so far over the long weekend of both shows.

::Space Dandy Review::

I haven't seen Space Dandy before, but it reminds me of Space Adventure Cobra in a funny way...in that both Cobra and Dandy are ladies man in dressed like they were from the 70's.

But after watching it I found Space Dandy is just so silly and very wacky so its hard to take the show seriously...but for me its just a little bit too wacky for my taste.
But overall its an ok show if you want to watch Dandy find and capture unique aliens.

But what makes it so wacky is that some of the episodes show that they either die or get turned into zombies.
Some episode are like an alternate universe...so yeah it came be very daunting at first but also very hard to take the series seriously.
Episode #4 the alternate zombie episode was funny though, as everyone in the universe became zombies...quite good for a laugh.

But there's not much plot really as its just about an alien hunter capturing unique aliens...so the story is meh.
Though the animation is quite good quality and has that Space Adventure Cobra like 70's theme...as in Dandy looks like he's from 1970's disco era with the hair and sideburns.

Well Space Adventure Cobra was originally made in the late 1970's so it adopted the 70's look.

But also has that Space Battleship Yamato feel to it as well when it comes to the space battles.

Space Dandy does feel like a mixture of previous 70's-to-80's anime such as Space Adventure Cobra/Battleship Yamato and Ulysses 31.

::Assassination Classroom review::
I saw a bit of this a Supanova expo and found it also another weird anime series.

Koro Sensei...is this weird yellow headed thing with tentacles...well personally I don't know how to describe him.
But the story goes Koro-sensei is training he's students to kill him by the end of the year...OK strange plot already.
But funny enough Koro Sensei is almost impossible to kill since he can move at Mach 20 speed.

But found there is a lot of characters to keep track of so I don't know if I will follow this series.

But I can see why they put these two shows together in one night as they're both so wacky with silliness.

Yeah I notice this as I might watch it since I was a bit of a fan of the book series even though I've only read the first book long time ago...as the first book game out in 1968 which is 'A Wizard of Earthsea'.

The first book is actually a bit like Harry Potter in that Ged joins a Wizard school and he's Wizard name is - whispers "Sparrowhawk".
Note: Wizard names are never mention out loud and are kept secret.
But its hard to consider which is his true name which is "Ged".
So he's Wizard name is Sparrowhawk but he's true name is Ged...so yet strangely confusing but Wizards generally have two names...which is a bit like Merlin and he's true name "Emrys".

The anime to which I haven't seen yet is only based on the third and fourth book of the series so I don't actually know this part of the story...as I've only read the first book.

Not TV, but just have a question about Yamato 2199. Who has the rights for Australia? Crunchyroll has the series, but we can't watch it.

On 1 July, SBS World Movies starts on the old Viceland channel (32). On the first Saturday they’re having an anime marathon including Kiki, Totoro, Steam Boy and Princess Kagura. I think the weekend anime blocks will be a regular thing.
