Does anyone know if the Inital D manga has been butchered at all? Apparently, Madman are releasing this first volume of it in May.

If it's like the TokyoPop one then from what I've seen. Name changes and "street lingo" is used. e.g Homie

Thats the thing that annoys me the most about the dvds (beside the low episode count and slow release schedule). Why did they stuff around with the subtitling on the original!!!?!???? I mean i have heard or transliterating before, but they have no right to change the dialogue from japanese to bad american english. Im not a f****** homie wannabe. When i read it i cringe and plot jihad against tokyopop for trying to make a very cool show more streetable. It sickens me Neutral

huh @_@ are you asking about battle stage, 1st stage etc? If you are... 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and Extra are all story-based, while battle stage is just a recap of the races from 1st and 2nd (and 3rd?) done with better CG. Think of the Death bit in Death & Rebirth for eva Razz

A stage is a season. A battle is a dvd within a season. (Within the context of the release discussion).

I don't think your getting it.

Each season is a stage. first stage = first season, 2nd stage = 2nd season, 3rd stage = the movie, 4th stage = 3rd season (yes, the naming breaks down a bit here) extra, battle stage = specials.

Each 'battle' is a dvd containing episodes of the series. Its exactly the same as having, for example, .hack//sign volume 1, except its called battle instead of volume. So battle 1 is the first dvd in the 1st season, battle 2 is the second dvd in the first season, and so on. I think Mr Waffle misunderstood your question, and his answer wasn't really correct. (No offence to Mr Waffle).

Which is why I said "@_@ huh" because the question didn't make sense.

Anyway, in the context of Initial D, a battle is a race. They've just decided to confuse everybody by labelling the dvds as "battles", in the context that it is a volume of a series... ignore the "battle 01" etc on the dvds, it's a load of fluff. It's just there to tell you what dvd in the series it is, it has nothing to do with the actual story.

you will probly find volume 5 is probly the last volume based on mount akina, then they will probly start traveling to other montains, i think the episode count will most likely follow the same platform that kenshin did, with the storyline, i think 1st stage will most likely goto 10-16 volumes I can't see it going to a 20 volume release, by the timen stage 2-3 & battle get i think it goto roughly 35-45 discs... thats providing 2nd & 3rd stage aren't the same length as 1st stage...
another 80+ episode anime on its way, only time will to see how long this release is...
though the bimonthly release sucks though i suppose we'll have to wait a while for it to be fully, i give it another 1-2 years for 1st stage gets a full on a bimonthly release plan.... then probly another 2-3 years for stages 2,3 & battle, damn what a long wait............

1st stage + extra stage: 26 eps, 10 discs

2nd stage: 13 eps

3rd stage: movie

Battle stage: about 45 mins, just shows the races from the previous stages with redone cg and music.

4th stage: 13 eps, only 2 of which are out yet.

Why do the catalogue item information pages for upcoming Initial D releases always have this image as the DVD cover?

Is Tokyopop also slack in providing Madman with an image?

lol yes, Ben is the dori king XD

Reason why the image is there is because either the image has not uploaded correctly, or that the mock sleeve was not yet done by the time the database was updated. We are working on getting a system put in place where this doesn't happen as often.

Which is why it has gone from the 10 discs we were told about initially to the 13 discs that are now in the series.

When I popped my Vol6 disk in earlier, the version menu came up, so both must be on the disk. Though I don't watch the english version (any more, don't wanna risk missing out on any story as the english version is edited or something...I think. Been a while since I saw somebody post about it on the MadBoards) so I'm not sure if the menu just shows up anyway. I'll check it out and post if nobody else does.

Hi everyone body,
I'm new to the MM Forum and first off just wanna say hi!
Secondly I think many Initial D fans will agree with me that what Tokyo Pop need to do is re-release Initial D and have the original japanese euro-beat soundtrack with english dialogue. Now I totally do not mind watching the anime with subs on but I think they created a ugly monster when they changed the soundtrack for the series in the "tricked out" mode!

Thoughts?

It's just not profitable for TokyoPop to do that so it'll probably not happen.

Because they've already released it, so nobody but a couple of hardcore fans will buy it? You don't release the same thing twice when it's as large as Initial D.

I doubt anybody cares enough about the dub to give a toss. There'd be all of about 3 people who bought it anyway, as I dare say that bar that handful most of the people who watch the dubbed version wouldn't give a rats arse about the music. After all, they're watching the crappy dub as it is, so they obviously have no taste Razz

I've not seen these DVDs, but surely the import mode gives what it should and what the average fan wants doesn't it? Are people complaining about something which does not affect their viewing?

Meh, I'll just continue to watch Initial D with Japanese voices... yet its sooooo tempting to switch the audio over just to hear the English Voice of K.T (god damn Spike Spiegol's voices is cooool) Twisted Evil

As said before, it does affect out viewing.

1) Having 2 seperate copies of each episode means a max of 3 of each "version" will fit onto a dvd.

2) The time it takes to produce the "tricked out" version means the dvds are released at two+ months intervals.

Given that there are, if I'm not mistaken, 26 episodes in 1st stage, 26 in 2nd, 3rd stage movie, battle & extra stages OVAs, and 4th stage (up to ep 10 in Japan atm), that's a somewhat long time for us to wait.

Yeah. 13. You're fired Waffle.

And it does affect the viewing. Sit down, and watch this 'tricked out' version of the video. Tell me the crappy inverse colour, mirror, wipe, lensflare, generic bad photoshop filter effects DO NOT detract from, or indeed ENHANCE your viewing of the series. It helps to have a clue what you're talking about before you come in ranting about something half-cocked.
