btw, How do you judge that? cause from my experience all cantonese movies look some-what dubbed through out. meh, maybe its just me... Rolling Eyes

cause i understand it Razz I've seen westerners speaking cantonese in movies and tele shows that is like a million times more believable than Jay.

isn't andy law a TAD too old... like 25-20 years too old Laughing .

imo, anne suzuki does seem to fit the role... can't really see any HK actors filling the part.

Worst. Canto. Ever. Award goes to Jay Chou!

Film wise it wasn't too bad. However the total mis-caste of the main characters sucked the big one. Jay played a decent Takumi he had the whole 1 face exprssion thing down pretty good. However his scenes with the delicious Anne Suzuki was flat and dry, comparable to listening someone run their finger nails across a chalkboard.

Edison still in my mind would have made a better Takumi, and Andy Lau or Ekin Cheng a better Ryousuke. Another thing as good as Anne Suzuki is at been Mogi I felt any number of other HK female actors could have done an equal if not better job. Either one of the lovely ladies from Twins for example Very Happy And the dub job for Anne Suzuki wasn't that good either there are parts where its very obvious its out of sync with her mouth movements.

I actually liked Edison Chen as Ryosuke. He was quite...how could I put this...cool!

I thought the movie was cooooool. (Even though this reply is heaps late. XD)

My only gripe is that Keisuke wasn't in it. T_T Though Ryousuke was cool enough to make up for that. Oh and it was awesome when Takumi drove Itsuki's 86. (That was one of my favourite parts of the anime series, when Takumi drove the 85.)

I've been able track both songs down and I love them. I like "Tong Yi Zhong Diao Diao" better though

Probably his best song is, imo, 簡單愛 (Jian Dan Ai)... a soft song but it's so totally awesome.

OMG, you wouldn't believe how many people have actually heard of this song. 3 people I know like this song and they're not chinese. I like the song too.

I haven't been able to get this song yet but I will soon.

I'm have been successfully converted to a Jay Chou and Edison Chen fan. ^_^

I dunno if it's just a regional thing (he's from Taiwan) or just his pronounciation... his singing is even 'worse',

HAHA actually it might be. See, I've got this Taiwanese chinese teacher at my school, and you wouldn't belive how much the backround kids pay him out (not to his face ofcourse) about his pronounciation.
That makes 2 cases. I'd say that is definately confirmed/plausable. Rolling Eyes

Saw the movie on Tuesday with some friends, and I must say it was pretty good. I didn't really mind the changes in it, but I liked the idea of how Itsuki's father was the petrol station owner. It made things seems a little more simpler in a way. Itsuki was really funny, and Bunta seems more...hardcore now. Having no Keisuke was a let-down though. I didn't...really like Jay Chou's acting though. But all in all I think it was pretty well done.

I forgot to mention that the movie made Team Emperor look so tacky. I don't know if the truck was meant to make them look "proffesional" or not but it just made them look like they were from a circus.

Yeah I agree, it was a little odd.

Werd. I saw this again last night, it's still awesome.

The more I think about it, the more I can give Jay a break about his Canto. He only learnt it for this movie, after all XD it's like critising... I dunno... an aussie actor for their american accent in a yank movie or something. Well, worse than that, but eh.

Slight necro here.

I noticed something in the end credits:

"This movie is not derived from the animation series entitled 'Initial D' co-owned by OB Planning Co, Ltd."

How can they get away with that?

Hmm, to be honest, I'm more impressed with the Japanese version of the live action initial D. They replaced all the music with the Eurobeat/J-pop and that's the way it should be.

Here's the preview of the Japanese version:

http://www.initial-d.jp/tra2s.wvx

Sure the dubbing is a little off, but at least it's in Japanese! Smile

Truck? What truck? Ohhhhh.....the one that has heaps of flashy lights? That's something I'd like to know......

I also watched the movie recently, but something is still biting me at the back of my mind: how come Takumi left the girl? What's her name, Natsuki or something......my friends said it was because she was a prositute. I still can't find any proof that she is one.

The truck is like that because Team Emperor are designed after bosozoku, street thugs who like bright lights, loud cars/bikes, and annoying the crap out of other road users.

As for the girl... yes, she was, it's called compensated dating, an unfortunately somewhat common thing in Japan for schoolgirls to earn money. They never *say* she is doing it, but she is.

He isn't actually her uncle, it's just a word used to describe an old man you're close to. Hence why Itsuki called Bunta uncle. It loses something in the translation...

In real life it's rare the parents know; in any case, the point of the movie was racing cars, not providing a social commentary on compensated dating, so I don't think they spent too much time thinking about it, other than being faithful to the source material (in this regard, anyway). Razz

Well the R4 is out finally...well kinda.

Walked into EzyDvd today and checked the Action section where its meant to be. Not finding it, I checked the site and saw it's been pushed back a week...but when i went to their anime section, I found 3 cases of it, and sure enough, they had them in store....Go figure

So of course i picked it up, and laughed at EB who had it still as a pre order.

Quite the enjoyable movie, though I think it may have spoiled some of the series for me (I've only got the first 5 discs so far). No biggie. The ending deffinately leaves a sequel wide open, which i hope does happen.

First stage will still have a few little surprises for you (and 2nd stage is hardly spoiled at all), it's a fairly broad summary of 1st & 2nd stage.

the ironic thing is it even states this on the ezydvd website its delayed til feb next year, only the other day i recieved a phone call from the belmont ezydvd sayin the title came in and waiting to be collected..

next pay hopefully another 12 dvds to add to my collection...

i'm not sure how detailed the live action is to the anime, though from the anime standpoint it goes like this:

1st stage
battle stage
2nd stage
3rd stage: movie
4th stage

when i see the live action i'll something on that too, though from what i understand the live action has nothing to do with the manga or the anime from what i been reading and i also think it states it in its original trailer, though don't quote me on it as its been a while since i've seen it..

Uh, no.

The movie is based on the manga, and for the love of all things coherent, don't bother writing anything about the movie <3

BTW, Battle Stage is the races from 1st, 2nd & 3rd stage, and a race between the Evo IV and the FD made just for BS.

First stage will still have a few little surprises for you (and 2nd stage is hardly spoiled at all), it's a fairly broad summary of 1st & 2nd stage.

Good to hear. Shame It's gonna be a while before madman releases the second initial d box so i can see them.

Hopefully they do make another one. It really deserves a second.

Give it time. Volumes 13 and 14 are still to be released as singular volumes. 13 next week, and volume 14(the OAV with Mako and Sayuki as main characters) in January.
I wonder if Tokyopop got the anime movie or fourth stage?

not really, you can license shows (to my knowledge) even when they're still running in japan. I would not be suprised if it's been done before.
With the popularity of Initial D, it's quite plausible Tokyopop are already attempting to get the license...if they haven't already got it.
For certain though they'd be in negotiations for it. They probbably wont say they obtained it till fourth stage is nearing its end.

Naruto comes immediately to mind. I doubt Tokyopop will do anything with 4th stage until they've finished milking the older series, though.
