OVA = Original Video Animation

There are only 3 OVA's (although I personally don't count Reflection as anything but a bucket of snot.... but I won't go into that here Twisted Evil ).

Realy don't like Reflection, why? I thought it was good, esp the ending.

And does that mean there's a forth OVA?

If you have read the manga you will know why so many people hate the Reflection OVA's. You should be able to find at least a handful of threads on the Kenshin forum explaining everything wrong with Reflections.

Long story short (as there are quite a few threads in this forum discussion the pro's and con's of Reflections) Reflections was made by the animators to milk more money from the series, it was not written by the original creator of Rurouni Kenshin, I've read from other people's posts that even the creator (Nobuhiro Watsuki) did not like how Reflections finished the Kenshin saga - although I don't have anything that shows that as a direct quote from him.

In the manga

*SPOILER* (what the heck happened to the spoiler tags.....?? Mad )

There are 3 parts to the manga, the Tokyo/Wandering Samurai, The Legend of Kyoto story arcs (both of which are first 2 seasons of the anime - Tales of the Meiji part of the anime was also created by the animators) The 3rd and final story arc of the manga is called Jinchuu and is based on the past events in the Trust & Betrayal OVAs catching up to Kenshin in the present *note that the Trust & Betrayal storyline appears in the 3rd arc of the manga as Kenshin relates to his friends the story from his past* Jinchuu has not been animated (and sadly will never be).

The Manga ending after Kenshin's final conflict agasint Enishi (Tomoe's brother from Trust & Betrayal), Kenshin gives up the reverse-blade sword and sets about living a happy life at the Dojo with Kaoru and his son.

*END SPOILER*

In a nutshell its really its a choice between a happy ending by the original creator or a sad ending by the animators - I choose the happy ending.

I also (and others) have arguments about how the animators changed some of the characters personalities in Reflections, but if you browse the Kenshin forum you should be able to read up on them without me repeating here.

Really there's nothing too wrong with liking either ending, its really a matter of personal choice.

edit: You also asked about a 4th OVA - there is none
There is OVA 1 and 2 - Trust & Betrayl (although its really a single 1x4ep OVA)
and OVA 3 - Reflections
There is also a Directors Cut version of T&B however nothing was actually cut in the original, they have since created a few extra scenes that have been inserted, I haven't seen the DC version but I don't believe it adds anything to the story at all - I don't think there is even any new dialogue.

From what I've read the director cut Trust/Betrayal all they did was put all 4 episodes into one long movie, throw in a bit more sword play (to drag out already existing fights) and some new music. I believe they also cropped it to make it look widescreen.

Its not really worth getting in my opinon.

*bangs head on desk*
Can we PLEASE not turn EVERY thread in to a reflection flame war?

I think if they do an OAV collection they should put the movie in too.

There's no reason why they can't since ADV hold the licence for both.

If they put the movie in the box as well then it wouldn't match with the animation with the other 3 dvd's but then again they could do that but I personally don't think they should put the movie in it anyway.

mainly because I found the movie to be really terrible and boring witht he plot but that's just me.

I've always felt the movie was just another filler story written for the Post Kyoto Arc that they decided to turn into a movie. It was just another "someone has a grudge against the Meiji Government and Kenshin has to stop them from trying to take over it" story. That story was over used waaay to much in the fillers.

The movie wasn't too bad, but my favourite will always be Trust! Smile

I think they should put it in if they do one, because otherwise you have every dvd in a box except for the movie. If you want to look at it that way then Reflections has a different style to Rememberance as well.
