Do you guys get paid or something for doing these things on the Madman site? I mean if you don't get paid, do you get special privileges or something? Sorry if this topic isn't appropriate in this forum, but I don't know where else to put it, and I'm just curious.

Don't you think you've posted enough new topics for one week?

Please consider whether your topic is of general interest to others before posting: this question would have been better sent directly to a moderator via e-mail.

Remember: being bored is not a good excuse for posting a useless topic.

BTW, all of the moderators and admins you see around are unpaid fans, just like you and me (well, just like me at least, I'm not sure about you ).

Some of the Madman staff do occasionally visit the board, but they don't do any moderating (they could, but they don't). From what I remember they are users "madman" (Tim Anderson, Madman owner), "ben" and "namekian_goddess").

Hyper C when he is around (he is in Japan on exchange at the moment), and Shinannth in his absense, have an arrangement with Tim where he will answer their e-mail questions as well as he can when he has time (rarely).

Sometimes they even remember/deign to tell the rest of the board what they've found out.

No, we don't get paid. The mods are long standing members who can be trusted with 'power'. Special privelidges basically includes the duty of moderating our respective sections.
We get picked because we know something about whatever section we're in. We supplement the Admins, Mangaman, picked by Hyper C, and Shinannth, Hyper C's replacement while he tours the land of the Rising Sun.

Admins simply can't be everywhere at once, so we're there to help. No special treatment, and if anything, we're more restricted in what we can say and do on the boards because we supposedly set an example.

Or something.

I just try and behave so I don't need to smack people down. I figure if I don't act like an ass, I won't be treated like one.

'Matt' and 'ben' are madman employees who are Mods of S&F so people know they're Madman stafvwhen they post official announcements.
'madman' is Tim, the guy in charge.
Namekian Goddess is another member like everyone else, who happened to get an office job with Madman (I'm insanely jealous). She doesn't really post here much anymore though. Not as much as back in the day.

Well.. we do get private forum all to ourselves where we talk about hot4vegeta's birthday present...

And like Slykura said, we sometimes get to hear news before the rest of you.

I was just an insane Madboard member - since 2000, and then when Hyper C went to Japan in March, I became the insane temp. Madboard admin.

Matt, ben, and madman are the mods/admins that work for Madman, the rest of us are just anime fans that spend too much time on the Internet. ^_^;

That's about it...

Deign? *lol* No, unless it's got to do with licences that haven't been completely confirmed (we don't want to cause problems with any of Madman's contract negotiations!), we always tell you the news as soon as we find it out for you.

Speaking of unconfirmed licenses.. would you please annoy Tim about Initial D? He had it on the list of 'in negotiation' waaaaay back.

Will do.

I should really start up a list of stuff that we have to ask.. it'd save time rather than looking back through the forums each time we email Tim.. but since when was I one for efficiency?

Initial D rocks! The animation is dodgy, but most of the car CG is alright (by comparison the animated cars look crap). Second stage was marginally better, but the music and storyline didn't have the same impact though.

Then the wonderous gem that is Third Stage.. *shivers*.

What... you mean the other mods here are doing this for the love?

Wow... I thought there was going to be fame and fortune in it as well. Something to add to my resume...

"Tim Norman, Dip. Prof. Writ. & Ed., Madman UBB Mod."

Damn, I was going to have that on my name plate...

(I must admit though, being a moderator has changed the way I behave a little. I tend to be more careful about what I say now, and, on occasion, I do things like tell other people to settle down in heated discussions, something I'd never have done otherwise. In fact, that's part of the reason I created the SN's Catbus Plush Toy account... so I had an account I could post short, witty things from without fear of retribution. It obviously hasn't worked yet... )

Mangaman started calling TG Bon, because he typoed her name, so I started calling her Bonbon (French for candy), so I figured that I'd call her Candy instead. Hehe, she gets so annoyed. ^_^

P-chan, if we did rule the board with an iron fist, then you'd have nothing to complain about.

I'm glad I don't have his keyboard (or maybe it's his fingers). On mine 't', 'g' and '.' are quite separate from 'b', 'o' and 'n'.

Still, gentle harassment of TG has to be a good thing.

XD No, I meant it was a typo from her real name, which we will not divulge at her request.

So, how many mods and admins are there now? Do you have to kick a current mod off if you want to elect someone else to become a new one? Or do you just keep adding more mods. (That is if someone is positively has been elected a mod)

Count them from the forum summary pages...

Shifts in the Madboard pantheon usually involves a high ranking moderator challenging an administrator to a bout of Monkey Kombat. The winner becomes the new administrator (or stays as). The loser is demoted to a low ranking moderator who has to climb the ranks of moderatorhood again. Unfortunately, sometimes a fatality occurs, but the essence of moderatorhood usually is transferred to the shoulders of a board member at the acquiescence of the entire Madboard pantheon. In rare cases, an administrator decides to leave for dimensions (e.g. the dimension known as JP) unknown for an unknown period of time. That adminstrator usually chooses a worthy moderator from whatever rank to assume his or her mantle. Several centuries ago, the Madboard pantheon suffered a period of upheaval as many gained and lost moderatorhood, apparently at the whim of the adminstrators and only for short periods, but the adminstrators eventually tired of this and created the pantheon as it is known now. I like to call that event the Time of Heavenly Upheaval.

Things have been quite stable so far. There is a rumour that one elevated moderator recently decided to refuse the mantle due to an inability to accept the loss of certain mortal freedoms and so was cast out. However, even with this small aberration, it is unlikely that an event such as the Time of Heavenly Upheaval will happen again. The administrators seem to prefer the current level of stability. Another rumour is that the adminstrators once decided to strip a moderator of their power and leaving them only as a moderator in name only, but apparently that was in a moment of jocularity, but it leaves the other moderators with a sense of anxiety.

The rank of a moderator can be determined by how many forums that moderator has control over and to a lesser extent, what that forum is about. I prefer to refer to the forums a moderator controls as that moderator's portfolio. Even the administrators are ranked, but the highest level adminstrators are very quiet, possibly due to matters outside mortal comprehension. They are said to have the essence of Ruetparsward - whatever that is.

I would have thought, given tha this is an anime-related board, that we'd determine it based on bouts of Angelic Layer, but that's just me...

Hmm well normally I'd challenge you but you'd probably use Murray and team up on me... Sauceman is too crazy to beat as he would probably resort to three stooge based attacks... I will challenge Jeranon as well um I dunno i spose he just may be sane enough for me to beat...

Since many of you (probably all) don't usually go into the HK cinema forum, you probably haven't noticed some of us talking about a new name for the HK Cinema forum, mangadude suggested Foreign and Arthouse Cinema. I agree that we should name it that, or something to that effect because many of the movies we talk about aren't Hong Konganese (what i like to call Hong Kong Movies! lol) - many are different types of martial art (that aren't HK) and japanese movies.

There's probably something wrong, incorrect or just stupid about my post, but meh.

Unforunately, all the countermoves change with each bout. This usually means that an adminstrator sees the bout coming because the challenger is having practice bouts to learn the new countermoves and can take action as well by having practice challenges too.
