Seen a couple of episodes. It's standard shounen fare to me, nothing great but not terrible.

Seen the first 5 episodes, I think it's great. Although, people do go overboard about how 'great' it is. I admit, it is pretty darn good, but I enjoy Gankutsuou more than Bleach.

Bleach: What Shaman King wants to be when it grows up, done right. Wink

Though the action sequences are impressive, the true selling point of the series would probably be the brilliantly hilarious chemistry between the deadpan Rukia and the hyper-emotional Ichigo, as well as a brilliantly badarse/cool cast.

I've been watching it and liking it. I think it's great, but that opinion is based as much on having read the manga as it is watching what's available of the anime.

Besides the ice-cool cast, I must say the heartwarmingly melancholic ending song, Life Is Like A Boat (the full 5-Minute version which I am listening to right now) is yet another selling point to this above-average series. Wink

I don't think its going to get FMA-style popularity, but its not a bad series. Worth watching.

Bleach is ace. I like the music, especially the ending theme. And how could you not like an anime where a dude named chad beats up a ghost he can't see with a power pole to protect a bird? Razz

I wholeheartedly agree. They play off each other quite well, I think. And her explanation drawings are quite hilarious Very Happy Chad is quite a cool character, too.

The OP and the ED are really good, the OP is done by Orange Range (the guys who did the third ending of Naruto), I believe.

I can't wait to see this series develop, it's got good potential.

Drawings as opposed to drawing, huh....

So, she'll do another hilarious explanation drawing session, right? The one in Episode 1 is a total balst!! Wink

And is it me, or does Chad resemble Bob Makihara of Tenjou Tenge, another 15 year old Token-Black-Guy?

And on that matter, this would imply that African American exchange students have become common enough an occurence to be made in current manga, right? Wink Question

Chads meant to be black? I never noticed...

The bleach manga has been around for a while, so I doubt it borrows much from tenten.

Even Chad's name is distinctly western, appearance notwithstanding. Wink

And notice how foreigners in High-School Series, or those with Non-Japanese Blood (example, Remmy of To Heart, Kaede of Onegai Teacher and Bob of Tenjou Tenge ) are always portrayed to be exceptionally taller than Every-Pure-Japanese in class, even if the character is a girl. (Kaede of Teacher in particular)

And Chad is no exception to this rule.

His full name is Yasutora (I might have the spelling a little wrong on that one) Sado. It's just that the Sa can also be pronounced as Cha (as in tea) making it Chado which is how Japanese pronounce the English name Chad. And if you really want to see him shine, wait for the Right Arm of the Giant arc.

The manga is quite liberally sprinkled with both American and Japenese pop culture references though they don't seem to be as common in the anime.

And I still want more Chizuru dammit! Crying or Very sad She and Rukia and some of the best lines in the series.

Yes, she does one in episode 4.. ya shoulda seen it already, if you know about chad.. *scratches head* from memory, I think it's about the 'in-between' and hollows.. or at least touches on that.

The next episode previews for Bleach are fairly hopeless.. there are snippets of the next episodes as visuals, but it gets all silly with the voice explanations Razz (they even did a spoiler that was an episode ahead Razz On purpose, mind you. )

From what I've heard about the manga this is an anime to look out for once it gets past the standard shounen manga start.

Is Rukias crappy drawings a running joke in Bleach or something?

Chad & The Gates of hell are awesome

Having seen up to Episode 5, I must say Bleach is slowly, but gradually becoming better and better.

It is one of those preciously few series out there, anime or live-action, where the issues of death, grief and letting go of the people we love are handled with an uncommon warmth, kindness and sensitivity.

While at the same time it does not come across as preachy, and maintains a high standard of awesome butt-kicking action and a likable cast of ice-cool dudes-and-dudettes. Wink

Episode 3 stands out as one of those few macho shounen anime episodes out there in which hateful violence was not the final sloution.

The Lonely, undeparted ghost of Orihime's Brother was consumed by a pack of ravenous Hollows, and becomes one of those beasts himself. Having not received prayers from his sister for 3 years, he seeks to fill the gap in his heart by consuming her soul in a fit of bitter rage.

Ichigo arrives in time to halt the attack, but not in time for Orihime's brother to seperate her soul from her body. Just as the monster was about to deal a fatal blow on Ichigo, Orihime offered her heartfelt apology to the beast, stating that she lived a happy life to show him that it was okay to pass on, and that she was sorry for crying "please don't leave me" on the day of his death.

Thus moved, the tiny spark of Orihime's brother overwhelmed the beast, and in the brief moment of love and sanity that followed, he drove Ichigo's sword through his heart, now filled with love, and passed peacefully into The Soul Society with dignity. Of course, Rukia replaced the traumatic ordeal of the night with a random memory, ensuing some comic moments between Orihime and her friends the next day. Wink

A poetic figure of speech, for "his head filled with love" dosen't quite sound as poigant, does it? Wink

The designs of the beasts, ugly though as they may be, does instill a sense of pity, for their lack of hearts quite literally manifests in the pitiful, large holes where hearts used to rest on their chests.

There's only so many different things you can do in a fighting anime. None of them are what you could call entirely original.

Just saw Episode 6.

The writing has begun to take a more humorous direction, without, however, sacrificing any substance in plot (particularly that of Soul Society Beuraucracy) and character.

Best of all, the series maintains its ability to create highly sympathetic villains whose feelings and motivations we can identify with, and sometimes even root for.

Rukia-Chan's tough exterior is begining to wear away ever so subtly, and she can be very cute in conduct and behavior when she least expects it.

And Best of all:
Rukia-Chan's crappy drawings just keep getting cuter and cuter. Wink

Episode 6... Chizuru strikes!!! Very Happy

And we get the entrance of Urahara and co and Kon! Though he is mostly comic relief and used to get a laugh I do have a fair degree of respect for Kon for one reason. However that's not going to be revealed until episode 7 so I won't say what it is.

I've just seen episode 7, IMO the biggest story-shover episode yet! (besides number 1). Enjoying this series! A definate recommendation.

Ep 1 really didn't interest me. The main character annoyed the hell out of me, too Razz

Give it a bit more chance Puke, it gets better in the next few episodes. Smile

But if you really hate the main character, well, you better get used to it if you choose to continue watching..
