Ok initial D was first at my local arcade but recenty they took it away and replaced with Maximum tune ( A highway racer which is identical to intial d just different because ity is on the highway instead of mountains ). Personally i Loved the inital D arcade game and they replaced with this copy. Just wanna Know which one is more of a favourte to everyone else.
I just loved racing down the hills of initial D's mountains.

Wangan isn't really like ID at all, if you ignore the card system. It's got alot more in common with Battle Gear (or the TXR series for DC/PS2/PSP that the racing system is based off).

We don't have it here yet, but we've played it a bit in other cities. I find it quite fun (since I am a TXR whore), and I can't wait for it to come here, I'm bored of ID v3, I doubt I'll play it much at all anymore.

I can't wait to try version 2, I wanna see what Hakone (real life Akina) is like with Wangan physics... not to mention all the cool oldschool cars like the Cosmo. 20B powa!

Initial D and Wangan, aside from both being based on a street-racing manga and having a card system have basically nothing in common, especially when you compare the actual gameplay in terms of the speed, handling and physics involved.

Calling Wangan an Initial D copy is like calling ParaPara a DDR clone because they both involve dancing Razz

Real Life AKina is actually Haruna not Hakone Smile

Hakone's tracks are super wide.

Hakone is in Kanagawa-ken, not Gunma-ken.

For the record, the game is called "Wangan Midnight: Maximum Tune".

Bah. Shakotan Boogie is cooler than Initial D and Wangan Midnight. Razz Just doesn't have a game or anime based on it though. Crying or Very sad

Wangan is cool. Initial D is cool. Atm I'd rather play the wangan game though because well.. I've played so much Initial D that going to the arcade is getting boring. >_< and my 600+ HP FD is begging to driven down the Wangan Line at 300+ k's...

*dreams* XD

I love Maximum Tune because it's at my local arcade. Initial D isn't.

620hp FC Very Happy

We don't have version 2 though. :/

Personally I can't stand Wangan and only play it when I'm waiting for the Initial D machines to free up. The most effective battle strategy is still go on the inside coming into the corner and let you car push the other guy into the wall as the car understeers/drifts wide. 4WD still dominates in the game and the Hakone track is only any good if you have a 5 gear car.

R32 GTR gunning for the magic 815HP, 640HP now and still yet to loose in story mode *touches wood*

Ok, I'm gonna hijack this as the official Wangan thread Mr. Green

We played some a few days ago in Sydney. It's still awesome. I love the new car additions, and the new track Hakone. It's not super duper drifty like an ID track, but it's certainly a nice change from the straight line highways. Though, they'll always have a place in my heart thanks to Tokyo Xtreme Racer... I want 800hp so I can race down new belt line already!

I demand you all use the IR for it, cause it's so damned easy. Your mileage password is printed on the card, but you'll still need to take a photo or whatever to get the TA password...

http://www.namco.co.jp/aa/english/wanganmaxi2/ranking/

I started a Mazda Eunos Cosmo. mmm, 20B rotary goodness. It's only a 4 speed, so it's pretty lazy on shifting XD When/if we get MT2 in Canberra I'll start a Celsior, so I can cruise in VIP style. Cool Or maybe a Corolla... or a Hiace... XD

Discuss! *whips*

<3 wangan

Just because its a little easier (and less wrist destroying) than ID. Driving an Evo6. Love long four wheel drifting Smile

One thing that pissed me off. Upgraded card for the ver2 machine and not only does it invalidate your old card, the new card doesnt work in the ver1 machines Sad Sad Sad MAJORLY pissed since I've put a fair amount of cash through that card, plus not everywhere has the ver2 machines.

Currently c3 rank, title of 'C1 Runner'. Need to play more -_-

Tell you what, the new mountain tracks on the version2 machine takes some getting used to!

They sure did @__@ I started a silver R33 GTR in V2 (Nio prizes for guessing why Razz) while I was in Sydney. Most coolness Mr. Green

??? It was like that with the Initial D cards, too... and it warned you before the transfer. Why would you expect a v2 to work in a v1 anyway?
