It was a Saturday night and they would then play an episode of "Aaagh! It's the Mr. Hell Show!" right after it. Ah... Saturday nights were the greatest... Nice to see anime back on SBS!

Hmm memories, I loved that time, Evengelion just finished on SBS and they showed BGC 2040. I was so hooked I started buying the DVD right away. It was funny that by the 3/4 way point SBS showed ep that didn't come out on DVD yet (my VHS got a workout with re-watching of thoes EP's hehehe)

Yay! I've really been wanting to see GitS: Stand Alone Complex, but have not seen any since I'm waiting for the collection on this particular series.

But this shall be a good chance to see what I'm in for. Thumbs up to SBS ^_^

Like everyone else, I'm glad that SBS is finally going to show a new anime series. Evangelion on SBS contributed to me being so into anime so to me this is a great chance to get other people into anime that isn't on Cheez tv. All the anime on Ten are about battling in some form, how boring do they wanna be? Razz

That's great news.

Still remembered the days when they showed Eva and BGC.

What other Anime has SBS shown before? I think I remember Akira.

Anyway, that's great, because I haven't seen SAC yet.

As long as they don't do what Cartoon Network are doing and change it altogether!! *shakes fist at CN*

It is really great though that SBS are going to get back to showing anime. It's been a long while since I actually watched a movie on SBS...

My first ever anime I saw was on SBS, Ghost In The Shell. I only saw the end, after the tank battle. but that was enough for me to get into anime.

My next anime viewing on SBS of anime was Patlabor The Movie (1) again only the last 1/3.

The first full anime I saw on SBS was Gunsmith Cats. Then a weird one which I can't remember then name of. But it involved a PI with a replacement eye that could control almost every computer system (it was only 2 ep's).

Then NGE followed by BGC 2040.

By that stage I was collecting anime on DVD so I wasen't waiting around for SBS to show more. But it is nice to see anime it on FTA TV again.

C'mon, the first half of the series wasn't that bad... In fact the 2nd half of the first series was tolerable too.
But don't get me started on the 2nd series... I don't want to fall asleep. Laughing

Hooray for SBS getting a new animé series (and about time too). I've always said, though, if they get the series before they're licensed in the US, they can count them towards the foreign language quota they need to meet to keep their funding. Also it would make people like me who love subs, and want to see the series earlier very happy.

On the counterpoint; is this a long term change in policy? Will SBS continue to screen animé semi-regularly, or will they keep their policy of screening a couple of series and then waiting several years with only a couple of movies inbetween, getting a laugh from our flood of letters asking them ever-so-nicely to put more animé on?
Only time wil tell...

Now all we need is an anime with dudes who have big moustaches and women who can't think without their makeup on and it can be put on SBS just before The Sotrm Rages Twice.

I have never once said that it was the obligation of SBS to show more animé (and I don't think that either). I have said however, that SBS could meet it's other obligations by doing so. After all, they do have a minimum requirement on how many foreign language shows they air. I mean, come on, the Japanese version of The Nanny? Who seriously watches that? If you want to show foreign culture programs, don't screen that culture's interpretation of another culture's program. Please put a culturally rich animé on instead, although preferablly in a time slot where I'm not normally sleeping.

That would be Goku: Midnight Eye. It was actually 2 movies.
More anime on SBS would give me a reason to get a new antenna so I can actually receive it (I get a really poor analog image, and no digital signal, and I'm in the inner suburbs of Melb!), but I would hope it wasn't one of two things:
1) Another bloody battle/dual series. (Dual Masters, Pokemon, Beyblade, Yu-Gi-Oh! anyone?).
2) Some crap drama about the life of a 10-12 year old school girl, who may or may not inherit some magical power. This stuff has really turned me off anime lately.
I like anime as much as the next guy, but give us something more 'manly' (Generator Gawl, Hellsing, Heat Guy J for example).

Come on, it's a proven formula. It works!... on certain people (Obviously not you).

I've actually come across one of these in Perth. I stowed it im my NERV logo bag for future use. I can't seem to find it now, but the bag now seems to be a Bag of Infinite Holding. Shocked

Hmmm. Is it because of how the formula seems to work in these shows, or is it because of some certain transformation scenes?

Did you pick up Doraemon's 4th dimensional pocket?

LOL. Well, little kids (and big kids) seem to like these type of shows. World comes under attack, girl(s) become magical girl(s), magical girl(s) save World. World is peaceful. And the transformation scenes certain help. Wink

Anyway, I don't think SBS will show these kind of anime. They are resevered for the Cartoon Network or something.

SBS seems to have high quality anime, like EVA, Patlabor movies, GITS... so showing SAC is a logical conclusion... methinks.

My set top box refuses to pick up sbs...unplug it and the tv picks it up though o_0 Apparently a known issue with set top boxes.

And who wants to watch SAC with the dub anyhow? *shudder*

Good point, but at least it's FTA. And if I like it, I'll buy it... well, it's already on my to-buy list. Just want to make sure that it's good.

Anyway, it's about time SBS pulled its finger out. Mythbusters and anime makes for some good viewin'.

man i wouldn't have buster's job if you paid me!!! Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

the smartest thing on that show is buster, classic a sax sock bazooka...

This is very good to hear. I like the first vol of GiTS SAC so I'm happy that i'll be able to see the rest (I'm too stingy to buy the series Razz).

First Iron Chef , then Mythbusters, now this. All SBS needs to do is bring back Saturday Cult Movie Night then it will once more become my favorite TV station. Actually truth be told it is already my most watched station at the moment cause of the mountains of crap shown on the other channels.

Saturday Cult Movie needs to be returned!!! I'm not a real big fan of the 10:30pm-sometimes-on-a-Thursday-cult-movie.

That, and they don't have ads during the programs.
