Hello people,

Trying to get hold of a licensed copy of Battle Angel Alita (Gunnm) from anywhere, did a few searches but came up only with fan sites, etc but nobody seems to have it. Except on from amazon .. over $100.00!!!

so....
where to find?

did it ever come out on DVD, if not is it ever?

I can't believe nobody has re-released this... one of my favorites.

If anyone has a copy... how much moolah?

it came out on DVD in the states, but went OOP about a year or more ago due to the live action version going into production (I assume ADV lost the rights).

James Cameron owns the rights to it, and as Werewolfforhire already mentioned, he is making a live action version. So at present, no one can release it on DVD unless James Cameron says they can! (and that'd mean BIG bickies!).

I wouldn't be surpried if a version did get released to coincide with the James Cameron movie.

And are you sure Mr Cameron owns the animation rights?

I think it's a fair bet that either he does, or the Japanese company behind it wanted a lot more for the animation rights than ADV were willing to pay to continue their licence.

That's what I read, whether it's true or not, that's a different story ...

He's also making a video game as well as a live action version. The two will go together ala Enter the Matrix.

Everyone has said what needed to be said about Battle Angel. On ebay you might get it a little cheaper, but as supplies weren't that much before he bought the rights. From what I know of, he's been an anime fan for a long time and this title has been one, he's been wanting to do for years.

Something similar to the way with Speilberg and Shindlers List.

I remember seeing it in a video store on sale on VHS a few years ago. I dismissed it as the cyber-punk trash it looked like and kept looking for Evangelion. now it's worth cash you say? I am like the worst judge of future value ever. God save me from investing in anything.

Meanwhile, what prompted James Cameron to try his hand at adapting anime to live-action? If he could make an anime into live action with the same skill that he did the Terminator films, or the best movie ever, Aliens, i'd be impressed.
