Hi all,

I sent an email to Madman earlier and posted in the Ghost in the Shell topic but I thought I'd post it here in a more obvious spot.

During Episode 7 at 1:00:13, the episode ends half way and cuts to the credits. This causes the run time to be only 90 minutes instead of the 100 on the box. I know there is 10 minutes missing due to seeing the completed episode a while ago. I've tried it on every DVD player in the house (all 5 of them) and searched through all the chapters, its just not there.

Is this just my DVD (in which case I'll get it replaced) or is this true for the whole first run of the DVD and will those people who have the defective one be able to get it replaced when the fixed version is available.

Thanks

Baz

Seconded the issue. At the 1:00:xx mark it just skips to the end credits of that episode even though it's only half way through. It's not a case of an incorrect chapter skip either becuase it's just not there.

Well I for one am very P'ed off. I wait for weeks on end, count down the days and suddenly ten minutes of episode 7 does not exist. I mean really this is just outrageous. I demand to know just what Madman plans to do about this! I can live with a 6 instead of a 7 on the reverse cover of Vol 7 (season one), but ten minutes not existing? I demand an answer from a moderator in regards to this issue! Evil or Very Mad

Moderators don't necessarily work for Madman, FYI.

It has happened to me on two copies, however I have worked out a fixaround until non-defective discs are supplied. Just change your DVD player to title 4, by default the dvd plays title 5(which stuffs up at that point), but if it playing title 4(chapter 11,12 or 13, I can't remember) the episode works without a hitch. For now I just used a program like DVD shrink to rip title 4 to a dvd so I can watch it, it works fine.

Hi all,

We've confirmed this problem exists and are feverishly working on a replacement disc run.

For now, please all hold on to your receipts and while we understand it sucks to have to watch the DVD this way, there is a workaround:

HOW TO VIEW MISSING SECTION ON GITS 2nd GIG v2:

While watching the episode, press the TITLE button on your remote. Using the numerical keys on your DVD remote enter 04 then ENTER. This will start you off at the beginning of the disc.

You can watch through from there, but please note between the 2nd and 3rd Episodes there will be about 1 minute of black, but the disc is working properly and the episode will start as normal.

On some DVD players, the remotes do not have the TITLE button, but all players have the function, so consult your manual on how to access this.

Once you go to TITLE 04, you can skip forward to Chapter 13 and watch the missing section as normal.

If watching in a PC player, you can use the interface to go directly to the correct part of the disc.

Stay tuned, we'll have a proper fixed disc ASAP!!

Thankyou very much Mr Madman staff type person. I apolagise if I was slightly mean in my first post but losing ten minutes of my favourite program really bugs the hell out of me. I was wondering if you could explain what sort of process, if any they'll be for a replacment disc?

We'll be looking at making it as easy to exchange as possible, and that's at store level - so keep your receipt.

We'll also have a direct mail backup but its too early to give an exact timeframe - new discs have to be printed first and that may take about 2 weeks.

Any chance the fixed copy could make it's way to Supanova in 3 weeks?

Apparently Madman are improving their qaulity control too.
*sarcasm*

I thought improved qaulity control was ment to stop half missing episodes and mssing last episodes of series?

It is adding something useful.
It's called letting the people that don't know that Madman have said countless times that they will improve qaulity control but they still havn't done jack crap about it.
I'm trying to motivate Madman to do what they told the fans what they'd do.

Sometimes you do have to wonder. Seriously, only one person needed to watch this disc fully prior to pick up this error.
It all could have been prevented by taking 2 hours out of a day to watch the disc fully.
Surely someone had a spare 2 hours while the disc was being finalised.

Another Q: I'm planning to buy this series soon as i'm no longer poor. How will I be able to distinguish between the botched and the fixed copy in a shop? Will there be any marking on the cover (eg.: different serial number, etc)?

Well madman used to do the 'Madman Sticker on front' kinda thing for a while.

Supposedly it's on recall, so most stores should not have it on stores anyway right now, so if you were to buy it in a month or so when the new discs get sent, then it's a good chance it's a fixed copy.

You could also wait for the boxset, most problems are fixed by then. That is what I do now.

It is a logical suggestion and that is what I do under normal circumstances. However, you're talking to a GITS fan child, whose self control is virtually non-existent when it comes to GITS releases. The pityful existence I lead now is the only physical restraint.

Hi everyone,

The fixed version of GITS:SAC 2nd Gig v2 should be out to stores this week. We were restocked in the warehouse last week so you should all be able to make an exchange at your place of purchase.

We simply sent the same numbers out to every store that ordered the disc the first time around, so it will be any day now for replacement stock.

Those of you who ordered through the Madman online store, can of course have a replacement sent by emailing order@madman.com.au with your original order number

Thanks for your patience with this one. Thankfully we were able to get a turnaround on fixed stock pretty quickly.

Is there anyway to tell that the DVD is a fixed version? The JB Hifi in the city still had copies of V2 with the error on shelves.

Yeah, I was wondering this too. JB on Lonsdale St, has Vol.2 back on the shelves after taking the initial shipment off a couple of weeks ago.

Is there any way of being sure, before you buy?

I checked the spines of the Vol. 2's at both the JB's on Bourke Street & Lonsdale Street today (Weds 19th/4) and none of them had a MMA number with a *.

Am I looking in the right spot on the covers?

If so, why are they still on the shelves?

is there any chance that we could exchange the faulty discs at madman's supanova stall?

NOT the spine, on the actual disc itself. The spines have absolutely no problems with them, so why waste perfectly useable ones. Check the cat number on the discart not the dvd case.

Ok, that really helps that we cant see it when the dvd case is sealed.

do what i do ask to see the dvd.
also it's been recalled i belive , which means that they shouldn't have them on the shelves.

but yea. most shops if your calm and polite and explian that one dvd is a fixed one and one is a broken one and you'd like to check just to make sure it's the fixed version , and if it's not the store can send it back to their distributor for a good version. it's a win win situation. if you don't like talking to people in stores then theres more problems than just a dvd Very Happy

Yeah, as much as a pain in the a%* it is, I guess I'll have to try that. I'll post what I find out later.

If we do a list of the stores that have the fixed copies on the shelves, it should help those who have been waiting out.

Update - 21/4: Went to the JB on Bourke Street, got them to open one for me to check the serial number and they still have the defective copies on the shelves Evil or Very Mad

I just got mine from DevotedDVD, the disc code doesnt have an asterisk on it, but theres no problem with the episode while playing.

They'd originally delayed my order when they recognised there was a problem with the disc, and this one was sent out late last week.

There's no problem with the disc that i can see, yet it isnt one of the discs with the asterisk. Kinda weird...

Some shops store the disc seperately from the covers, so you can check the product number before the dude/chick places it into the cover at the counter. Although, that's not the case at JB, because they keep theirs in the cover with a red security device inserted. But you could try & ask them to open the shrink wrap and check it for you. I'm sure most won't mind.

Check the bottom of the spine, the number is written their. Unless only the disc has the asterix.

NOT the spine, on the actual disc itself. The spines have absolutely no problems with them, so why waste perfectly useable ones. Check the cat number on the discart not the dvd case.
