I've just watched the first six episodes chronologically. It feels very different doing it that way. Still fun, though. Smile

how was the pacing Tallis?
the order that they were shown in originally has a gradual build up of the more supernatural elements over the 14 episodes, getting more and more pronounced as the series went on.

I would assume that the less "conventional" elements make an appearance much earlier in the chronological.

fortunately Haruhi looks to be the anime series version of 'The Sixth Sense' in that a second watch through gives a completely different feel to the first. And earlier events only really make sense once you know what happens later.

Sixth Sense? Hmmm... Kind of. Though I kind of think it more appropriate to say it's like straightening a pretzel.
I've gotta admit, the episodes after 6(14) do make more sense.
The pacing is still quite good.

An En. translation of the first one and parts of subsequent ones [in fairly rapid progress] is availible on teh intarweb. Forum rules prohibit my saying exactly where.

Anyone care to explain the talking cat in episode one .., or the reason why Nagato jumps Mikuru and covers her eyes after the mikuru beam?

But forsooth, best new series I've watched this year. Sure it's nonsensical episode order can be a bit of a toll on your head especially when you're trying to piece the puzzle back together trying to grasp what the hell is going on. However I think it's what adds to the charm of this "what the hell" supernatural comedy.

Plus Osu Otake Ouendan inspired outfit and movements in the opening scene by Haruhi and of course the Phoenix Wright parody is win!

Because thanks to Haruhi's effect on reality, the cat became able to talk while the movie was being filmed (and was returned to normal afterwards). Yuki jumps Mikuru in that scene because when Mikuru was wearing the coloured contact lens, she really did fire a Mikuru Beam. Yuki was getting the coloured contact lens out.

And all this was explained in the anime when? Or was all this in the novels?

Novels, though it is possible to deduce it from watching the anime.

Haruhi is easily the best show in the last couple of years, in my opinion. First couple of episodes will have you intrigued, the next few will have you asking what's happening and force you into the story, once episode 12 comes you would've had creamed your pants and then once you finish 14 the realisation comes: it's finished.

Fear not, then you start reading translated novel and if you're lucky and know Japanese or Chinese then find the actual novels and read them. Also, there's no question that there'll be a second season.

I love it. Smile

So, I've just finished the second novel. That, and hints in what of the anime I've seen and later chapters that I've read lead one to an inescapable conclusion:

It cannot be doubted that the whole thing, from beginning to end, was cooked up by Nagato Yuki. Also, that she is an inveterate liar.

"Newtype". It started as a Gundam fan-mag.

Hmm seems like it was a false alarm. It's pretty obvious since Haruhi has been quite the success that they will make a second season, but this is not the announcement that says it.

It was quite a good ploy by Newtype to sell alot of magazines, though.

I was incredibly dissapointed when the show didn't turn out to all be a student film.

Also Question: Are they suposed to be completly out of order?

Yes. However, the jp DVD release will be/is in chronological order. Which isn't that hard to work out, mind.

Damn, there need to be more...

Another season, movies, OVA's, games, books, doujinshi (of the non-hentai type...) and plushies.

I would so get plushies of every character if I could find them anywhere...

One season was enough. I thought the first 4 or 5 episodes were excellent (not in chronological order), but once the alien/sci-fi stuff swung into full action, it was...well, not as great.

Personally I reckon the juxtaposition was part of what made it good.

Nah, that is not the issue. It is the bunnygirls. Licensing of anything that includes a representation of a Playboy bunnygirl is apparently quite complicated in the US, and I heard a few weeks back that this is why the licenses on the series are still not finalised.

I heard that too, but the source of that was a website known to be somewhat unreliable and general consensus among the fandom seems to be that it's wild speculation. And I know I've seen bunny girls in other anime that's gotten released in the US.

That's a load of tosh. I can't think of any other anime with bunny girls in it that's run into that sort of problem before.

The reliable sources I have say that it's due to a very high licensing cost.
