I realise, but I just thought it was a bit odd that they're selling it cheaper than their supplier does, and with free delivery if you pre-order Razz

Madman can't break RRP, it'd make a mockery of the whole thing. Also, it'd piss off their retailing customers.

Of course they cant, they're the ones that set the prices, the only way they can offer a lower price is if they have a sale or special going and even then they can't do that on new stock anyway

Anyway, Haruhi V3 standard and ltd ed are now available for pre-order at CDUniverse and i guess other online stores as well, gunna make up an order now Very Happy

I can't/don't speak for Madman, but generally RRP's are set with a certain markup in mind that is standard for that product. I used to work at Dymocks, and the RRP set by publishers was generally 35-40% on top of the wholsale price, so for example if you wanted to sell books/DVDs cheaper than the retail, you just narrow your markup margin. That's all places like JBs, Atlantic, etc do. They pins their hopes on selling more volume at their cheaper prices to make up the difference. Madman doesn't care because they're still supplying to JBs at the same wholesale price.

Everyone probably knew that already, but it made me feel important saying it Wink

You are partially correct.... but Nargun would be more correct.

Madman are both a distributor and a retailer. They are obligated to stick to the RRP. (at least with new product)

Imagine being a retailer that purchases these DVD's from Madman to sell.... how would you feel if they charged you $23 per DVD and "suggested" you sell them for $30 (note figures pulled out of thin air), then they sell the exact same DVD for $22 through their online store thus undercutting you and making it pointless for people to trade with your store instead of theirs.

If Madman wanted they could undercut all other retailers in regards to their product, but that would quickly lose them those retailers as a source of income.

Very well put by Viking, the retailers also work well in the sense that it is a lot more fun (convenient?) to walk into a physical shop, pick the DVD up with your own hands and walk out with it then and there as opposed to waiting for it to ship, so in that sense they can potentially draw more customers, afford to markdown prices etc. etc.

There will only be a limited edition for V1. The vouchers will be inserted into the regular V2-4 but the only way to get the magical first ticket is by purchasing the V1 and Box.

Wait, is it getting released August or September? If it's an August release I'll cry profusely because I don't get any money then...

September on the other hand should prevent said crying from occurring...

Assuming you're asking about the R1s, volumes 2-4 each come with another disc with the broadcast order eps so there are 3 discs.

I'm going to laugh, cry and punch someone if I end up posting about this order in Production and Technical; not that I expect to.

Even though I'm expecting to get the Region 1 Volume 2 Limited Edition this week, I went ahead and put in an order for the local release of Volume 1's Limited Edition.

I'm not referring to lack of stock; that would be in Suggestions and Feedback.
I'm talking about technical glitches. e.g. Sound dropouts, glitchy video etc. etc.

I like how they've used the full dance sequence. I also like how the visitor counter never changes.

Also the whole thing how according to the year stated next to the counter: the site was made four and a quarter years before the series even commenced airing.

I only found out about this series recently and I have to say I am loving it. Of course I've watched the first eight episodes in chronological order and when I got the TV version I must say I was much confused as to the order of the episodes. Don't think it added to the craziness, just mad it all the more confusing.

Ive never seen this show (I know I call myself a Anime fan) but no broadband net access at home and the way the folks see any animated show in general makes it very hard to see the latest Anime. This is why I can be a grouch on here at times when you guys talk about all these wonderful shows.I appologise for my grouchy outbursts. But looking at the OP and ED vids on youtube(at school) this show does look good.

If you're desperate to know what the show is like, you could always download the light novels. The Suzumiya Haruhi light novels are among the only light novels that have been fan-translated and available for download. I think the first 8 or so are up.

Wait, so do we know if we're getting the uber-box with the doors and drawer, or just a regular one?

*EDIT* To hell with it! I just got a tasty tax refund, so I splashed out on the uber-box from DVD Pacific.

I am looking forward to the arrival so much at this time. I actually am ordering the US versions as well (the third US box is expected around the time of release).

On the topic of the light novels, some company has to pick those up and translate them for the western world. They would be insane not to...

For those interested to know, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya was the Anime Sampler on PCPowerPlay this month. They actually used "The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya Part 1" (episode 2 in TV and DVD) for that sampler. Which is lucky, as im sure that using "The Adventures of Mikuru Asahina Episode 00" would have only confused more...

Got my R1 box. Quick question; does everyone else’s seem a little... fake? Maybe I'm spoiled by quality Madman releases, but although the packaging is really, really cool, the art is the tiniest bit fuzzy, as is the print on the DVD itself, it smells weird and the cosplay headband wasn't in plastic wrapping, like in the pics of what you get inside.

I'm not complaining, these gripes are so minor in the face of Haruhi Suzumiya and the awesomeness that is her R1 special edition, but if DVD Pacific are shipping fakes, I'd like to know.

For all the extras that are being released with the other volumes, the range of titles they stock and (probably significant) customer base, I would be surprised if DVD Pacific were selling dodgy merchandise.

My R1 box came with the headband not inside a plastic container too. So either both Amazon and DVD Pacific are in on the same deal, or thats just how they are shipping it....

Same here. Actually I don't think the armband did either for volume 2. I can't remember, I was too busy getting it out of the box onto my arm Razz

The annoying thing wasnt that the Box arived mangled, but it arived mangled because the box Amazon decides to send it out on was so massivly inadequate for it. (one of their wedge-sized boxes. For the size of the box I was receiving, there was NO was to fit it into that box) If it wasnt for the distance and the speed (and the fact that nothing inside was damaged) I would have complained to them about it. Though, if my Volume 3 Special Edition comes in like that, I am going to get pissed. Once is a mistake. Twice is bad decisions...
