Damn that bites. I'd still send through a complaint though ... I mean that box has been really hammered. I mean, it's not as though they can take what you've already receoved away from you ... at worst it might just be an opportunity to vent and nothing comes of it, but at best you might actually get at least some refund... |

Yeah I really wouldn't accept that from such a high profile store.
I'd definitely be insisting upon an undamaged replacement. _________________ Information Is Absolute Power, Absolute Power Is An Illusion.

Question time:
In episode 3 "The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya Part 2", Haruhi introduces Mikuru (in the dubbed version) as hanging out in the junior area (or w/e) and then Kyon replies somthing like "So she's a junior."
In the sub version however the first part is the same but Kyon says "so she's an upperclassman."
Also wikipedia says she's a 2nd grader (senior school).
Unless my memory last 5 minutes Im pretty sure they all kinda contradict each other. So.. which grade is Mikuru in? |

Well, she is officially a 2nd year. If someone has their DVD on hand, they can check the dub for that. If thats the case, its time to boo and hiss Bandai for letting that through. _________________ For my birthday, Madman cut all prices by 50%.... |

Nope, still makes sense to the Americans. See, the following is how Americans typically refer to year levels in schools:
1st year = freshman
2nd year = sophomore
3rd year = junior
4th year = senior
Now as Japanese high schools consist of three years, sophomore is omitted and 2nd year gets referred to as junior, with 3rd year as senior. Therefore, it is still consistent; Mikuru is Haruhi and Kyon's upperclassman, as well as being in her junior year.
Yeah, the American way is a bit dumb and if I were doing things, I'd just say 2nd year... but meh. I've got more important things to worry about. _________________ Funya | Opinionated Anime Reviews |

True that. Im looking forward to seeing that Pillow Case. I had a look at Volume 4 and it looks like it comes with another pillow case too.
Earlier this week i showed a few friends all of Haruhi and now I have convinced two of them to get the Limited Edition dvds. It also reminded me of how awesome this series is and how much more i like the Tv Broadcast order over the Chronological Order. The Chronological Order's last episode is easily the most boring episode of the series and it doesnt really feel like a last episode, while the TV Broadcast Order last episode has a conclusion that makes it feel like a final episode, not to mention its the only episode where Kyon ends up not having to buy the food _________________ Insert rod A into slot B. And, I just got my third volume Limited Edition... 2-DVD case with both DVD's, Haruhi character CD (to go along with the Yuki and Mikuru ones I got at Manifest), another Pencil Board, another Iron-on Transfer, and a Pillow Case.
Pillow Case features this image

There may be pictures at a later time...
And this box didnt come in horribly mangled thanks to a bad decision by the seller...

If anyone wants to get a preview of the dubbed songs (or at least God Knows) head over to www.asosbrigade.com
It should still be up on the front page and you can judge for yourself if it's safe to watch episode 12 in English. _________________ I reject your reality and substitute my own! |

@ Darth Tallis: Completely unrelated to this thread
I have like so bought with a bunch of those miniature sprite MOHS figures.
I couldn't resist, they are just so cute!
Anyways BOT (Back On Topic) - This has to be the funnest, most absorbing & definitely interesting, anime series I have ever had the pleasure and honor of viewing for myself. Its a definite number 1 in my eyes people! |

I bought and watched the boxset of this series and found it pretty average, truth to tell.
I'm currently deciding on whether I should keep the boxset or offload it to my sister as an xmas present. I didn't mind the fanservice, but I have plenty of those and that was all that I really liked. The characters tended to be either boring or annoying and because of that, I'll most likely never watch it again.
No doubt many will want to sharpen their knives because of what I've said above, but I never had high expectations for this series when I bought it because of the intense hype. Just as well for me that I didn't have high expectations for if I did, I would've been feeling greatly disappointed and angry. As it is, I just feel relief that I got thru it all, instead of falling asleep. _________________ Motorcycling - You don't need an excuse to ride, but you need an excuse not to ride.

You Lie! Nah that's cool man. I like totally loved it as much as I love my music. So I was totally infatuated with TMOHS
If you don't like it, that's like totally cool, you can't love every anime out there, and if you do THEN YOU TOTALLY ROCK!
I just loved the humor and the characters. Also I was like totally, like Haruhi Suzumiya, except the only minor difference is that I am a guy.
But yeah as soon as I saw her, we bumped heads like totally!
Just to widen the "I didn't think TMOHS was that flash" bubble.
I told my brother about it, and he thought it was completely stupid.
So your not alone in not liking it.
Even though he was just guessing that he would hate it, after I told him the story. I will convert him to Haruhism, just you wait and see!

At least I watched it all.
I returned the boxset to JB-Hifi to get a replacement box, only to find out they did have any. So I got a JB-Hifi cash card with the boxset value to use up. I'll most likely use it on the Shark boxset due out next month. _________________ Motorcycling - You don't need an excuse to ride, but you need an excuse not to ride.

If I can handle watching the first ep, then I'll continue watching it until it's either finished or I get bored. Since I got the boxset due to it supposedly being in limited numbers and I thought f*ck it and just bought it.
I always ask myself during any series, if I'll watch it again and there was maybe 2 eps out of the 14 that I could see myself rewatching. The rest I couldn't see myself watching again. The fact that it had a non ending was the final nail in the series.
I just found it boring and annoying. Haruhi annoyed me after a while with her attitude and the big breasted girl being scared all the time despite being a time traveller got annoying as well. No real character growth at all except for Kyon didn't help matters.
I also watched the rest of the eps to see which others were dodgy as well. _________________ Motorcycling - You don't need an excuse to ride, but you need an excuse not to ride.

I agree, the pacing is all off in the chronological/DVD order. I mean the story kinda ends halfway through and the rest of the series is just basically random sidestories lol
Broadcast order is the way to go for a first time viewing of Haruhi imo. |

I hate it when things are out of order. If I watched it like that, I'd have given up on the tv series straight off. Pure chaos, time wise is a real turn off. _________________ Motorcycling - You don't need an excuse to ride, but you need an excuse not to ride.

Except Haruhi manages to avoid that and is one of the very rare examples of a series that works well even though it is very Tarantino in its order.
The broadcast order for me is the correct order and the chronological is the chaotic mixed up one.
The reveals of the supernatural elements are paced much better as is the reveal of the world according to Haurhi in general. _________________ "That wasn't a battle, it was assisted suicide!" - Zephyr (Resonance of Fate) |
