Cool - especially the bit where he wanted to do a bit on camera straight after the crash. Razz

It's amazing enough that Hamster survived the crash, that he's survived it with what appears to be little permanent damage is near-miraculous.

Send a get well message to Hammond. You know you want to.

That musical engines thing has been done before, by Asiatech (I think), former engine supplier to ex-F1 team Minardi, before they changed to Cosworth engines.

And did anyone see those Drift guys? Shocked

Hammond and Top Gear are back!

I know the story is a couple of days old but some people may not have heard the good news. I only just learnt myself.

On another note I picked up his new book at the ABC store yesterday, Richard Hammond's Car Confidential. It's a good book, and very funny, even if you're not really into cars.*

*I guess. Being a person who does like cars, I can't say for sure if a non car person would like it.

^same. Well I do not HATE cars, I just.. mostly dont care. The only reason I even considered watching Top Gear is because I turned SBS on to watch MythBusters and saw Top Gear instead. I love the show. It is one of an extremely small amount of TV shows I am actually upset if I miss an ep.

Most of the Top Gear-related car books are pretty good, actually. Hammond has one called Crap Cars that's a bit of a laugh, and Clarkson On Cars is worth a read, too.

It's actually not as big a surprise as you'd think, given that he's been unhappy with the way the BBC has been treating the show for a while now.

The last season of Top Gear wasn't... that great, really.

The Stig speaks!

EDIT: Further reading suggests that the British media has got it somewhat wrong. Apparently Top Gear is relocating, as the disused airfield that they currently use is to be redeveloped. There's also been some contractual disputes between presenters and producers and the BBC, and a few other things.

When Clarkson says it won't be back for summer, what he apparently means is that it will be back in the northern Autumn.

Bugatti Veyron? Nah, a bit too common, I'm afraid.

Bugatti Veyron Pegaso Edition with 200 more horses and a surprisingly tasteful red and white paint job? Now we're talking.

Also, word on the street is that Toyota may be developing an AE86 successor.

Picked up Top Gear's collector edition box today. The 3 discs that have been out, 4 glossy images of cars and a Top Gear license plate. It's nice.

Must be Top Gear season though, cause borders had all the books written by Jeremy and co. on display as well as the dvds.

For those of you looking to purchase a Bugatti Veyron in the near future, you'll be pleased to know that you can check out the colour options online.

Or you could get the brushed-aluminium Pur Sang version.

Also, Ferrari have somehow managed to make the F430 even sexier.

Oh, and for those who think that the Veyron isn't exclusive enough, then the limited edition Lamborghini Reventon should be right up your alley.

As much as the Veyron is probably still my dream car, it's been somewhat spoiled now when I found out that Tim Cahill's wife has one! Can you imagine having that much money that your second car is one of the most exclusive in the world ... but you prefer to drive something else?!? (though admittedly that "something else" is a Lamba)

If the "something else" was a Koenigsegg CCS, then yes, I could easily imagine a Veyron as a second car. Wink

Honestly, for the price you pay for one, you could buy a Veyron with enough change for a Koenigsegg CCX.

And let's face it, Koenigsegg are much more Lambo than Lambo these days.

Could you imagine any of these cars imported into Australia though? I remember on the M25 it was always funny seeing one of the super-cars go flying past (even thrashing the old rental up to 100 mph) ... but somehow couldn't imagine it on the Bruce Highway...

I just console myself that at least I can go over speed bumps (actually, even that doesn't really work ... dammit I want a Veyron or a Zonda Sad{|= )

So apparently on 10 news earlier the reason for the crash during the 7th run of rocket car was a nail in the tire? wtf....
That just shows lack of safety and Richard's own small thoughts in having at least 1-2 of their people on site might have made a difference.
Since during the run not like Richard could tell the car was going to crash and put him in a coma.

Good ol' Rally Vincent's car Razz

Was in JB the other day an picked up another Jeremy Clarkson dvd called the 'Jeremy Clarkson Collection'. Basically it's 2 discs with three segments. Jeremy's top 100 cars of the century, one about skillful driving, and the third is where he picks the best cars from 7 or so catagories and decides which is the most fun to drive.

Wasn't such a bad watch, although the top 100 sucked partially because he chose a few based on the fact that he owned one at some point. The skill driving (No limits) sucked because after the first 10minutes, it turned into Jeremy hooning in cars rather than teaching much. The Shoot Out wasn't half bad, especially since the Evo made it all the way until the final 2, beaten by I think the RX8 though.

SBS to produce Aussie Top Gear show

SBS will produce a "quintessentially Australian" version of the top-rating BBC motoring program Top Gear to hit local screens next year.

Australia is the first country in the world to secure the rights to make a local version of the show, which mixes performance cars with comedy and celebrities.

"This is fantastic news for SBS, for Top Gear fans and for Australian audiences," SBS director of content Matt Campbell said.

"Top Gear is a unique show and one of the BBC Worldwide's biggest global properties."

The British show is known for test driving and brutally appraising the world's most popular cars and performing breathtaking stunts.

Mr Campbell said the Australian version would add local flavour to the successful formula.

"In making it we won't simply replicate the UK series with an Australian version of Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond or James May," he said.

"SBS plans to make a program that is uniquely and quintessentially Australian."

SBS, which has screened the program since 2005, has also extended its commitment to the UK version for the life of the series.

BBC Worldwide Australasia's head of sales Julie Dowding said the deal was very exciting.

"We are very proud that the first global deal for a local version of Top Gear has been done here in Australia," she said.

Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson added: "I'm delighted that Top Gear is going to Australia. Maybe the first guest could by Jonny Wilkinson" referring to Britain's rugby player and World Cup hero.

The series will be produced by Freehand Productions, BBC Worldwide's Australasian partner, which will transmit on SBS in 2008.

How is this going to work? Half the fun is seeing them grab high-powered vehicles and beat the hell out of them ... cars much more accessible in London than Australia. I can see some of the road rules challenges working ... but end of the day I guess it's going to come down to who they get as presenters.

Will be hard to match the original though...

In Top Gear, I think humour > cars.

So I'm thinking it's going to be a bit of an Australian Idol thing with the hosts and matching personality types.

They'll have a big arrogant A SPHINCTER SAYS WHAT, a good looking guy with white teeth and 'comic releif guy' who they make the most jokes out of.

The most awesome news ever

Well, awesome if they can get the right people involved, that is. In any case, I'm looking forward to it, and wonder what Clarkson & Co will have to say about their Australian counterparts.

I also demand that they make whatever arrangements are necessary to have one of the presenters hooning across the middle of the country in a Veyron.
