Two singers I've gotten into thanks to Nana. Both are very rock/pop orientated. Olivia sings the pop ballad for Nana and Anna Tsuchiya sings the OP for anyone wondering.

Anna just had her new album, strip me? come out this week, it's awesome. She does a cover of True Colours, you know the song Kasey Chambers sang? My favourite song besides rose is zero, it's awesome. Recommended songs for Anna are then: rose, zero, Ah Ah and slap that naughty boy, true colours too.

Olivia's last album, the Last Lolli, I expected her to be more pop but she's actually got a very good experimental indie/rock sound. SpidERSpins is really recommended, it's borderline metal! Very Happy For more of a ballad listen to her Nana ED, a little pain Very Happy She also dances cool and wears gothic lolita outfits, and is half american. Very Happy Also a lot of her songs are completly in english on the last lolli (LOL LOLI)

Any fans?

Love Anna Tsuchiya's Rose/Frozen Rose. Haven't looked into her album yet but I have been tempted to.

Might just look into it soon now.

It is a very adictive song but it has to be loved Rolling Eyes

Olivia is/was mostly an indies girl. She's released several mini-albums, and even though her full albums are released through Avex, they aren't sold everywhere. I think, actually, only Tower Records sells them.

I like her songs "Color of your spoon", "Dear Angel", and "Into the stars".

They have some rock sub-label they used for her Last Lolli album, forgot what they called it.

I <3 them. Is it me or is pop/rock in Japan so different to what we have here? It's more more upbeat and a lot heavier than what western music would consider pop/rock.

*Listens to spiderspins again XD*

Yes, there's definately something different about Japan's Pop/Rock because the songs we have here that are pop/rock seem more pop than anything else.

Tommy Heavenly6 has some decent pop/rock songs as well. Smile

I've been listening through The Lost Lolli yesterday, I <3 olivia even more now. She even has a ballad on the CD, clown music, everything basically. Her voice is amazing too, its that pitch that matches to a heavier rock sound. ^^

There's a rumour that she's releasing another inspi reira Trapnest single called "A startless night"

Olivia's new PV came out during the week for Wish, so looks like its another new song on the Starless Night single. It's the new OP for Nana too. The PV is cool, and the song is awesome. Grows on you fast. Very Happy

The version on Lost Loli is the remix, the original is so much better and heavier.

(here's a tip, they all are Razz)

Soft in Akihabara had both of her proper albums. And I noticed Lost Loli in a few HMV's around Japan...

Oh my god, there's a heavier version of Spiderspins? I.must.HEAR!

All her new songs are japanese with a bit of english in them, and nowhere near as heavy as the Lost Lolli. Looks like she wants to be more mainstream, that and Trapnest in Nana aren't heavy so its more realistic. Razz

Anyone listen to her new Single, Wish yet?

Pretty damn good I must say. Wish is awesome, Starless Night equally awesome and close your eyes will be liked by anyone who liked her slower trippier stuff from the Lost Lolli, which I'm not a fan of.

But yeah, she's moving onto more mainstream stuff but still has a track which brings back Lost Lolli memories.

I want a new album!

It was very experimental, that's probably why. But yeah, it's one of the best J-Pop/Rock albums I've ever heard.

On her lastfm page the songs on thelostlolli rank the highest out of all her songs. Usually the newest songs spike when the album just comes out but with thelostlolli it has held the lead for quite a while now. It's good to see her fans on there like the album so much.

I think it's the album which most people became fans of hers, it's the most original.

for sure. xDDDD

NANA's raking in quite a bit for fans for her.

I don't know why, but when I stepped into HMV today I went looking to see if they had any Olivia cds. Of course they didn't. I think I have a better chance of finding Sweetbox there. xD

But Sweetbox is sooo bad, the Ayu versions of the songs are so much better. Razz

The Lost Lolli has an overseas version, so it can land in HMV. But they'd definitely have it for order there.

There is such a variety of songs within the bands/ singers themselves too. One can be complete pop, the next hard rock/metal, and the next somewhere inbetween.
And then the heavier bands can do lovely ballads (though this is the same with Western bands. I have always believed the hard rock/ soft metal bands do the best ballads!)

They just don't seem to be as constrained by labels in Japan as in the Western music scene.

J-Rock definitely do the best ballads. Smile It's the best how the heaviest band can still have slow songs. Very Happy

Anyway..

Anna Tsuchiya - Kuroi Namida Single: It gets the thumbs up. Kuroi Namida is ****ing brilliant. Anna's voice is great in this song, and the guitars and soft and heavy in the right spots. Easy song to listen to over and over. Smile
She does a cover of the 80s classic "Just can't get enough" which is okay. True Colours was better. Razz
Another B-side is "I'm addicted to you" which is just as good as Kuroi Namida. Fast paced song to constrast the slowness of KN.
Then there's Kuroi Namida sadness version, which is meh. The original is much better.

I just got OLIVIA's The Cloudy Dreamer today! I'll give it a better listen and post back later. Smile
