I know there's very little people here that buy the Japanese R2 releases but I'm curious to know anyway. We've had the R1 order thread for about 5 years now so I think it's time that an R2 order thread is made Razz. Come on! I'm sure I'm not the only one here that does this.

Anyway I'll start off. I think I might import the Japanese releases of certain series now due to the disappointing treatments it's getting from either the American companies or Madman (Ouran, Sola & Clannad series).

Just recently placed an order for the limited edition release of the Clannad movie

It's currently part of the "Limited Spring Sale" so I thought this would be a good chance to get it, though I was torn though on choosing either the collector's CD/DVD edition or the limited edition one. Think I'll get the collector's edition sometime later.

The only R2 I've ordered lately was a UK R2! "Gunbuster 2" from Beez. Stupid bloody French division of Bandai and thier damn cheap digipak packaging. Flipping Beez only released it in April 2008 and the damn thing is out of print! Well at least it was a lot cheaper than the 3 R1 discs at US$40 per disc.

The only other R2 discs I'm currently looking at at the Japanese release of "Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea" (due July) and the UK box of "Star Fleet" (Go Nagai designed Japanese sci-fi "supermarionette" show in the vein of "Thunderbirds").

The only things I've been remotely tempted to get the R2s of are out of print, so nothing really.

The last Region 2 discs I ever bought from Japan were the Silent Mobius movies.

I put in a pre-order for the Redux version of Ghost in the Shell on Blu-ray which will be released in the UK on August 3.

I bought a lot of R2s during 07/08 (I have the first 2 seasons of Gintama!) but now I don't have the cash to do such things anymore Laughing

I may end up purchasing some in the future though... Laughing

I have been wanting to get the MushiPro Animerama collection (which has 1001 Nights, Cleopatra and Belladonna), Nippon Anime Classic Collection and all of H2 for a while now, maybe later.

Last R2 I bought was puchieva - evangelion@school, it came with a funky model... and Ghibli's 'Ocean Waves'.

I'm looking at buying the first volume of Hetalia Axis Powers, which is released soon too.

Laughing I think a lot of us will be making posts on what we would like to get rather than actually ordering it with the current economic crisis. So with that in mind, I'd like to get all the limited edition releases of the Clannad TV series. Just look at the huge plethora of extras you get with each of them. I'll probably end up getting the set when I get my tax return sometime in July (if I at least get a grand back that is lol).

Sucks that the last volume's (volume eight) limited edition is out of print but there's quite a few of them available on Yahoo Japan Auction (albeit with jacked up prices)

Got an copy of Paradise Kiss Vol 2 today at the local Book Off for 1550 yen. Bargain considering it comes with 2 discs (1 with the episodes, 1 with extras), a booklet and a framed postcard of Yukari and George.

I think the only R2 in our collection is Millennium Actress.

Actually, we have a few non-anime R2 DVDs, mostly Jpop concerts and crap like that.

The only thing I have is a Laserdisc of Tenchi Muyo Soundfile that I brought from Asia about a year ago off ebay. And it was brand new!

I have since made a backup on to DVD using an AWA-DR711 (It has NTSC/PAL tuning and input!)

That was one of my first Japanese R2 discs as well. Also bought the three disc release of "Bubblegum Crisis" when that came out after seeing the horrifying AnimEigo release in the "software box". Those discs came in the CD Jewel box cases. Also have the boxes for "Millennium Actress" (where if you warm up the box, you get pics of Chiyoko) and the "Tokyo Godfathers" box.

Also bought all of the individual volumes of "Saikano" and the volume 1 and box. I think this is the only TV series to get optional English subs for the entire series on the Japanese DVDs (OVAs got subs too, but I bought the Korean discs for that). Also have the "Blood the Last Vampire" box and "Tamala 2010" box. Got a smattering of single discs like "Noiseman Sound Insect" (the Lawson version) and the first "Kochira Katsushika-ku Kameari Koen Mae Hashutsujo" movie. R2 DVDs without subs, I haven't got too many of those. The Pioneer release of the Tezuka experimental films, a couple volumes of Gatchaman and the Macross 20th anniversary disc which has a lot of cool commercials textless opening and closing animation and trailers.

Won an auction on YJA of the R2 volumes 1-9 first press editions of Ouran High School Host Club. Each volume has a mini mascot of a particular host. The auction also came with a special collectors artbox to house the DVDs:Very Happy:. The artbox is quite rare as it was only available through voucher redemption from the animate shop in Japan. Can't wait til I get it.

Put in an order for Vol. 8 Limited Edition of Clannad After Story. Reason I'm ordering the last volume first is because it'll go out of print within a few weeks of its release similar to vol. 8 of Clannad which would then make it very hard to find for a good price on YJA as the sellers like to jack up the price once it does.

I ordered it from Play-Asia by the way as it seems that's the only place left that still seems to have it in stock, fingers crossed they actually do since it's stated it'll take around 5-15 days for it to ship. Don't wanna miss out on this limited edition like I did for the last volume of Clannad.

I've always been weary when Play-asia say it'll become available in 5-15 days, to many times have i ordered a game with the same tag line only to receive an e-mail telling me it's unavailable

You could give amazon japan a try, there marketplace may have it. Though I'm unsure if they'll be able to ship it to you...

R2 DVDs? Man, that seems insane, doesn't Japan pay like three times as much for DVD as we do? What kinda masochist does that?

For the amazing extras and merch these DVD's usually come with (e.g. look at the Clannad R2 DVD's early in the thread), they make it so worth it, and also sometimes due to the R1 companies giving it disappointing release treatments that they are more enticing.

Also, it's usually the specialty/otaku DVD's that are very expensive while most of their other DVD's like Japanese live-action TV dramas, movies and such are generally the same price as ours.

And which of those two would anime geeks be buying hmmmmm? Wink Merch is cool, but wouldn't it be cheaper to buy the local release and buy a figure or something? You'd also end up with something you can understand, assuming the R2 DVD didn't include subs.

Who said I needed subs when I already know Japanese thanks to studying it in school? Razz Besides, there are anime that will NEVER be licensed or released locally that I'm interested in getting, e.g. Bartender, so it's more reason to import the R2's.

Well, if you're fluent in the ol' Nihon-go, then I guess you're set for understanding purposes. But still, it would be so much cheaper to buy the local release and turn the subtitles off or something Razz

Still, for the price difference, I'd personally rather get something different, but of equal awesomeness.

Will be getting Clannad Movie Collector's CD/DVD Edition now as well as the limited edition of volume 8 of After Story from a friend who's currently in Japan.

I cancelled the Play-Asia order for After Story in the end as I couldn't be bothered waiting up to 15 days to be told it's OOP (well that's what I assume since all other places have it as out of print).

Now to hunt down the OOP limited edition volume 8 of Clannad. Cool

Without sounding like an absolute ass, I'm in japan right now and it's every where. I saw at least 6 copies on a shelf in Gamers.

As for R2 purchases, i picked up the first volume of The Melancholy of Haruhi-chan Suzumiya with box

It doesn't help the fact that the last volume's limited edition goes OOP one week after its release date and all the international online retailers I've checked says they don't have any stock left (and can't get any more in because it's OOP) hence why I got a friend in Japan to get it for me, I doubt Gamers actually ships internationally.

Anyway it doesn't matter anymore as I picked up that limited edition volume 8 and the CD/DVD collector's edition of the Clannad movie from the post office today.

Kara no Kyoukai Movie 6 limited edition also shipped yesterday Very Happy.

Also in the spirit of R2 purchases...kinda.
I picked up the Negima OAD's today (v23,24,25). It took a lot of leg work to find them, especially that pesking V24. But having them in my hands makes me a happy chappy.

I'll post some pics along with the rest of my r2 haul when i get home.
