Somewhat interesting storyline. Good character development and overall some interesting characters. It's entertaining, too.

I haven't seen much pics of her since she is way into manga and anime but when you do see her they are *ahem* big. Very Happy

Yeah she is a looker alright but remember she is like middle age and in her 40's or something, so she looks not bad for her age.

Probably just like looking at someone who is sharon stone or even Elle Macpherson age.

Oh why I like Naruto....Well obviously because it has Ninja's in it.
And I love a great ninja storyline with a twist of demon sealing spells and other sealing spells and Ninjutsu, genjutsu illusion spells.

But a ninja acadamy with comedy is something that hasn't been done before in manga and anime.

Fight scenes are great but it also has comedy and great character involvement.

Each character has a history and goal.

I like it because japanese have this dark theme when it comes to almost about anything and I really enjoy it when yet this quirky annoying Japanese. anime can also be extremly dark and can be taken quite serioulsy.
This really can only be viewed if you watch the series in english subs rather than dubs. The two sides of the show will be destroyed if you watch it in dubs.

A: Planet Sized
B: She's alot older then 40 (She's the same age as the hermit dude training Naruto whos name escapes me)
C: You see her in the anime after she stops using the techniques and she looks like a zombie Razz
D: It doesn't really matter how old she really is, its what her boobs look like now Razz

And finnaly, I have a thing for older women anyway Very Happy

It uses plenty of ninja mythology from Japanese history. Saying it has to be 100% historically accurate to be called "ninja" is, to use a technical internet term, elitist wank.

You know you're right, that was pretty wankery. I take it back.

But in my defence, I have been surfing 4chan all day.

ALOT better...

Charecters are (arguably) more interesting.
Charecter designs are heaps more appealing. (Not even counting my dislike of Akira Toryomas designs)
But most importantly the fights are MUCH better animated. They never do that whole repeated animation thing that DBZ was full of. The fights are all just propperly coreographed fights.

The pacing is probbably its only stumbling point, although it never gets as bad as Namek in DBZ (I'm not counting the current fillers as existing) it can get pretty slow. Esspecialy at the begining when up to like 10 minutes of the eppisode is flash backs to the last eppisode

You haven't seen Naruto so how can you ask the question how does it compare to Dragonball Z? when you don't even know what Naruto is like yet.

Naruto and Dragonball Z are two totally different shows why compared them to each other.

The only thing that you can compare is that they are different, NOT the same.

For 1. Dragonball was made 20 years ago while Naruto was made only few years ago, so a lot of improvements have been made in anime since dragonball was made so you can't compare which is better in terms of animation since there years apart.

The artist of Naruto also has admired Akira Toriyama's work so he made a story that would be popular as Dragonball Z.

Me may have got ideas from Akira Toriyama's work but still they're two different storys.

Both have great manga but the anime for both of them are years apart in comparison.

They're the same format. I believe it was Nargun who defined it best many a moon ago... basically, it's sports. The main character faces an opponent, overcomes them somehow, and moves onto the next one. It doesn't matter if it's aliens and fireballs or ninjas and talking frogs, the driving force of both these titles, and others like Prince of Tennis and even Pokemon, is the continual battling and strengthening of the main character.

With that out of the way, I'd say Naruto is the superior show. While it still has the vs opponents format, it does a great job of developing the other characters and the relationships between them. That's certainly what kept me interested.

I think that Dragonball has the better fights. They're more intense and less predictable. Also, the fact that Dragonball is more than just a "monster takes over the world, hero gets stronger" type [See: this thread].

ummm, okay....

As for DBZ the same as naruto, i do believe they are similar but not the same, kishimito has been greatly influenced by Toriyama's work on DB, so i would imaging that there would be some similarities.

I just personally prefer the characters of naruto, there are a lot of likeable characters as the series progress, eg. shikamaru, i hated him initially, but as the series progressed, i've got mad respect for his character now.

My fav character is still kakashi though...

I agree on the fights. While some loathe DBZ's 10-thousand-episode fights, I think they're quite epic.

Though I have to say that you could probably read into Naruto just as much as Ronin did into DBZ into that thread; as I mentioned, the character interaction is quite deep, especially when it comes to the other villages and their motives.

Basically, they're both awesome shows Razz but you don't have to like one to like the other. The writing, humour, and themes are quite different, for the most part.

Having only seen the first episode of Naruto, I can't comment on those relationships, but I can say that while characer relationships aren't always given the spotlight in Dragon Ball, they are very important.

Mostly, just watching people interact with Goku from when they first appear as a rival, to when they last appaear as someone who is simply in awe of the man-child he become. Vegeta's relationship with everyone are very well handled. Especially once he gets a son. And Gohan and Piccolo's relationship... Naruto will have to try very hard to beat a relationship that organic. I mean, Piccolo hated Gohan. Trained him because he was strong, grew to care about him, became a mentor, then ended up as a semi-father figure, and arguably the most important person in his life. He even fights more like Piccolo before the Buu saga.

I never pegged you as liking Dragon Ball or Naruto, Waffle. Guess I never saw you hang around the Dragon Ball forums (can't really blame you, they can get pretty scary).

So there are not long fights like there are in Dragonball? It is more to do with relationships and humor?

There are heaps of long fights in Naruto, but it's more like... DBZ is about Goku and co going to fight the next bad guy, while Naruto is about Naruto and co going on the next mission, which quite often has a bad guy involved. So the biggest difference is the justification for the fighting Razz

I only really watched DBZ when it was on in the mornings back when I went to school or whatever. I don't know my super sayans from my level 3 SSJ from my buus or anything. Razz

Naruto, I was convinced to watch by a friend. I didn't care for it the first ep, but it really got me interested during the first mission. The first bad guys are just fantastic.

No offence to Ronin or anything but he could read that much depth into a cup of coffee.

You might say that they long fights made the DBZ fights more intense. but the main thing that bugged me about them was all the repeated animation. It made em boring IMO.

But it wasn't that well coreographed, the majority of it was just like three frames of animation repeated really really fast for ages.

... I am an animator, infact my sig is a link to my animation blog. I'm currently looking for work in 2D animation. Its because of my studies in animation that I can see how incredibly cheap the DBZ fights are.

You have to understand that those shows were being pumped out to air weekly, no breaks, for years starting in the 80's. TV animation wasn't it's best, and despite it's popularity, I can't see it having that much of a budget to make it OVA level. Anime also uses traditionally less frames than regular animation. It's the good directors who make it work in their favour.

I know all of that, but DBZ fights still look cheap and nasty, and usualy cause thats how they were made.

The characters are great, I like Tsunade - her skill and character.

The series is funny, it also has a good plot.

The fillers may sometimes get boring, but some of them are funny.

Depends what I'm doing, used to do animating in flash then compositing in combustion. Now I only ever use it for rough animations and do clean ups in Image Ready or Photoshop.

I would have to say the best thing about this movie was the art and the way they build their characters, especially Naruto himself.

...

1. It's like DBZ, but with kunoichis and ninjas.
2. Has potential to be as big as DBZ, but the characters don't have the powers (yet) to blow up cities and planets.
3. Has more female fighters than DBZ.
4. Two gals: Sakura and Hinata.
5. Maybe that Tsunade (even though I haven't heard about her much) is a hottie to me, but don't tell anyone, even Sakura and Hinata. I just wish Tsunade were a bit younger, though. (She's really 40?! Aiya! *faints on the floor in front of Tsunade herself*)
6. At least they have a ninja school to train ninjas. (I wonder if the guy in charge is a pervert like Master Roshi? Just curious.)

PS. Naruto might have what it takes to be "DBZ for kunoichis and ninjas". I might consider buying some volumes from Madman as soon as I have a chance.

4. Two gals: Sakura and Hinata.

There are 4 girls not including the two teachers and Tsunade.
Sakura, Hinata, Ino and... um the chick with all the weapons. There's also the sand ninja chick who comes into it later, Kunari (sp?) the female teacher chick (I think she's incharge of Hinatas group) Anko another female teacher who comes into it in one of the exams, and Tsunade who becomes a main charecter. Tsunade also has a little helper chick whos in it alot.

So that makes 9 female charectesr with important roles.

Just to give names...

TenTen is the one with the weapons, Temari is the sand ninja chick, Kurenai is the Jounin-sensei for Team 8 (Shino, Kiba, Hinata) and Shizune is Tsunade's assistant/medical ninja.

I have had the plates for 2 years now!!

I have had many people on the M4 get really close to take a photo with their camera phone.
I one case I had some pull out a large camera whilst driving behind me and take a photo!!!

Nice. That does beat the previous entery, but it doesn't count as a win as you are the same person. Sorry. Wink
